INSTRUCTIONS FOR INTERNS

Please follow the instructions below for submitting an application for the Student Intern position. If you

have any questions, please contact OPS HC at [email protected].

Instructions

Step 1: Go the Dallas ISD website at www.dallasisd.org. Using the tabs across above the pictures click

on “Careers”. This will take you to a new page on the website.

Step 2: Under “Apply Now!” click on “Non-Instructional”. This will take you to the District’s Applitrack

page.

Step 3: Once you are on the DISD Applitrack page you will click on “Log in”.

Step 4: Click on Start to begin the process.

Before you begin the process, you will need the following:

An e-mail address you will be able to access such as a Yahoo or Hotmail e-mail address.

Step 5: This first section of the application will require you to create a password for Applitrack so you can

go back into your application to edit or update if necessary. NOTE-Please write down your password. OPS

HC or HCM will not be able to retrieve your password if you forget it.

After each section is completed, click on “Next Page” to move to the next section. The Navigation guide on

the left side will let you know which section you are currently on.

Step 6: Currently, the Student Interns positions are not posted. Until they are posted, you can still complete

an application. You will skip Section 3-Vacancy Desired and complete Section 4- Position Desired instead.

Under Section 4-Position Desired, you will check the “Student Intern” box. Once you check this box it may

prompt you to “Select Experience”. Using the drop arrow, you will select the years of experience you have

for this position. If you don’t have any experience, you may select 0.

Step 7: You will need to complete all the sections of the application. If you do not complete all sections and

you are trying to submit, Applitrack will show you which sections of the application are incomplete. Once

you have completed all the sections, please click on “Submit Application”. You may log off once Applitrack

says your application has been submitted.

If you need to go back into your application to update or edit, you will need your e-mail address and

password you were required to create when you first began the process. We cannot retrieve this password

for you if you forget. To update or edit, you will log back into Applitrack using your e-mail address and

Applitrack password.

What students will need to bring with them to Human Capital Management if they are selected for

a Student Intern position:

Valid Driver’s License or State issued ID

Social Security card

Those students who are 18 and older will be required to do a background check

Any other documentation that is HCM may ask for

Job Descriptions for Student Interns:

POSITION TITLE: Student Intern, Operation Business Services

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Interns may serve in one of the various Operation Services Division departments as assigned,

obtaining relevant job experience in fulfillment with their internship requirements for high school

completion with Dallas Independent School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Type documents and correspondence as required

2. Receive, sort, and distrubute mail and correspondence to department staff

3. Assist with maintain a filing system of computerized files and other hard copy departmental files

4. Communicate effectively with visitors, vendors, and District personnel

5. Prepare information packets, orientation packets, and interview packets as required by the department

6. Assist with the imput of data as needed

7. Make work assignment and punctuality to work essential functions of the job

8. Ability to demonstrate the following core values: trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship

9. Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises none.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

of this job:

POSITION TITLE: Student Intern, Custodial Services

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Interns may serve in one of the various Operation Services Division departments as assigned,

obtaining relevant job experience in fulfillment with their internship requirements for high school

completion with Dallas Independent School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning, dusting, and/or vacuuming of floors, carpeting, walls, whiteboards, trash cans, windows, glass, furniture, equipment, and restrooms

2. Keep school/building and grounds, including entryways, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas neat and clean

3. Advise Night Lead Custodian when school or building requires a work order for a specific area/location.

4. Operate all equipment according to established safety procedures

5. Comply with the Texas Hazardous Communications Act which includes emphasizing safety, storing, handling, labeling, and application of all chemicals

6. Wear appropriate custodial uniform and District issued ID badge to work daily

7. Make work assignements and punctuality to work essential functions of the job

8. Ability to demonstrate the following core values: trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship

9. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises none.

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Interns may serve in one of the various Operation Services Division departments as assigned,

obtaining relevant job experience in fulfillment with their internship requirements for high school

completion with Dallas Independent School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs duties required for the position using good safety workmanship

2. Follows the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, Leadperson or Department Head in completing assigned work

3. Performs all activities using good safety practices. Manages routine work activities using good safety practices

4. Operates hand/power equipment required in the craft

5. Maintains tools, equipment, and supplies assigned

6. Requests supervisory assistance in areas in which expertise in lacking

7. Selects and uses the proper tools and equipment required for the assigned work

8. Make work assignement and punctuality to work essential functions of the job

9. Ability to demonstrate the following core values: trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship

10. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned

POSITION TITLE: Student Intern, Maintenance and Facility Services

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Interns may serve in one of the various Operation Services Division departments as assigned, obtaining

relevant job experience in fulfillment with their internship requirements for high school completion with

Dallas Independent School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ability to apply various types of paints to interior and exterior structures using approved industry standards. Including paints, primers, stains, acrylics, lacquers and epoxies and other approved coatings, by hand or using spray equipment

2. Ability to prepare interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures and structures by sanding, filling holes, cracks and joints with caulking or approved materials

3. Ability to use basic tools and equipment including power equipment under supervision and with proper training

4. Ability to tape, bed and texturing of sheetrock/dry wall materials 5. Ability to prepare paint to match specified colors by mixing with color tints, using approved equipment

or by hand 6. Clean and maintain painting equipment after each use; including brushes and rollers 7. Maintain accurate records for labor, materials and hours worked, for work order completion on

assigned work 8. Follow district safety guidelines, using good safety practices for operating hand and power tools and

equipment as needed for job completion. Wear safety equipment as assigned, at all times 9. Make work assignment and punctuality to work essential functions of the job 10. Ability to demonstrate the following core values: trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness,

POSITION TITLE: Student Intern, Transportation Services

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Interns may serve in one of the various Operation Services Division departments as assigned,

obtaining relevant job experience in fulfillment with their internship requirements for high school

completion with Dallas Independent School District.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Under proper supervision, perform installation and mechanical repairs on various types of vehicles and equipment accordance to official technical repair procedures using good workmanship

2. Perform repairs using precision measuring meters and computerize diagnostic tool, understanding wiring schematics and diagrams

3. Assist in responding to various emergency road side assistance calls on disable vehicles and equipment

4. Assist in maintaining accurate records of all repairs and an inventory of all parts

5. Assist in equipment deliveries and utilize department’s daily log sheet for equipment deliveries and pick-up services

6. Assist in loading and unloading trucks

7. Assist in ensuring load conforms to and matches delivery tickets

8. Identify and resolve various maintenance and repair problems related to Fleet Maintenance

9. Clean and maintain tools after use

10. Follow district safety guidelines, using good safety practices for operating hand tools as needed for job completion

11. Make work assignement and punctuality to work essential functions of the job
