Hi everyone,Welcome to the late October edition of InTallaghtMagazine.

It's a sad one for me personally as I am saying goodbyeto InTallaght and the team here after 14 wonderfulmonths at Genesis Media. My move has been broughtabout due to personal circumstances but I would liketo thank you all for your fantastic and consistentsupport of the magazine and what we have beendoing thus far.

I came to InTallaght in August 2011 and was attractedto the job because I admired the young publicationwhich set about making a name for itself in the areadespite the harsh economic climate. InTallaght wasand always has been a positive magazine highlightingthe great things going on in our community and it hasbeen my pleasure for the past 14 months to expandon this by bringing interviews with big names suchas The Coronas, Laura Whitmore, Ryan Tubridy, NeilDelamere, Ardal O'Hanlon, Richard Dunne and MattCardle to you. The magazine has changed in manyways from it's design to it's extensive coverage ofnews and features as well as your much-lovedcolumnists. It has gone from a monthly to a fornightly, has fantatstic associations with Shamrock Rovers andThe Square Shopping Centre and is about to launchon iPad.

It is now available from over 100 outlets fromCitywest, through Tallaght and down to Rathfarnhamand is known by everyone in the area and beyond. Fora publication which is just 19 months old it boastsremarkable progress and behind that progress is aremarkable team - one I have had the pleasure ofworking with and whom I leave you in the capablehands of.

InTallaght will continue to thrive and reach newheights and achieve even more of its goals and I forone look forward to watching its continued success.

It's goodbye from me however, thank you to all youreaders, advertisers and associates and perhaps wewill meet again.

It has been an honour.

St Mark’s Community School in Tallaght has become the first school in Ireland committed to the use of Restorative Practice. The process began in 2010 and staff members, studentsand parents have all been involved in training inRestorative Practice (RP).

RP is an internationally recognised approach to manageconflict and tensions in communities and organisationsby repairing harm and building relationships.

Launching the development this week South DublinCounty Council Mayor Cathal King raised a specially made‘Restorative Practice flag’ outside the school for all to see.

The launch also included a viewing of a film made bySt Marks pupils in which the students demonstrated howRestorative Practice has changed how they, teachers andparents resolve issues in the school and at home.

One student stated how the last two years have been‘the best in her life due to the use of restorative practice’. Mayor King said it was a great honour for St. Mark’s

Community School to become the first ‘School CommunityCommitted to Restorative Practice’ in the country.

“This project provides a great example to the 800 pupilshere at St. Mark’s of the action people working togethercan take to improve their lives. The School Principal, teachers, pupils and parents are all to be congratulatedfor their energy and commitment.”

Speaking at the launch the Minister of State for PublicService Reform and Office of Public Works Brian Hayessaid: “I am delighted to be present in St. Mark’s for thelaunch. I congratulate all involved. It’s a great day and aproud achievement for the school."

The initiative was delivered through a partnershipbetween St. Mark’s and the Childhood DevelopmentInitiative (CDI). CDI provided training and support whilestaff, pupils and parents developed and implementedthe programme.

Eithne Coyne, the Principal of St Marks, said that she hadbeen overwhelmed by the response of the schoolcommunity, that Restorative Practice has been embracedso enthusiastically and that there is a real, deepcommitment to making it work.

“The Restorative Practice Programme is going fromstrength to strength, with more and more people andorganisations seeking to take on the training as word ofhow useful it is spreads.

“The aim of Restorative Practices (RP) is to develop thecommunity to prevent and manage conflict or tensionsby building relationships and repairing harm. “Peoplefrom a whole range of organisations and sectors haveundertaken the training that CDI has been providing. Thetraining is for all statutory, voluntary, and communityorganisations working with children and families in

Tallaght West and for residents and young people wholive in the areas of Jobstown, Fettercairn, Killinarden andBrookfield”

“The school has a proud tradition of being a caringcommunity, and the strategies and explicit practices ofRP support us in the day-to-day work of realising thecore values and principles enshrined in our SchoolVision,” said Eithne.

CDI CEO Marian Quinn highlighted the pioneering spiritof the school. “RP is about early intervention andprevention work that strengthens relationships andprovides people with skills for the constructive resolutionof conflict.

“There is now a model in place at St. Mark’s that can beadopted in other schools across the country and the schoolis to be congratulated for being the first to achieve this.”

Since CDI began providing Restorative Practice trainingin Tallaght West in 2009, 700 people have been trainedin the approach with 200 going on to do refresher ormore advanced courses, including 100 young people.

CDI has worked in the community in Tallaght West andsince 2007 and in that time more than 2,000 childrenhave participated in its programmes.

The organisation is part of a major early years researchand evaluation project taking place across Tallaght West,Ballymun and Darndale which is co-funded by AtlanticPhilanthropies and the Department of Children andYouth Affairs. Additional funding has been given to CDI by theDepartment of Children to continue much of its work inTallaght for another year – and full details of this will beannounced shortly.

Was it hard to get over missing the Euros? It had been a hard few months even before the Euros. I’d been suffering with groininjuries from around February/March. It was a big disappointment to miss out but Igot on with it.

Did you watch much of the Euros? Yes I did. The first game was hard to watch, you want to be involved and you wantthe lads to do well. I watched the Euros in Thailand. It was great to get away from itall but it was also very disappointing for the lads.

Could you tell us about theroad back to full fitness? Well I went back to pre-season aiming to get ready. During the summer I did norunning for 6 weeks and the rehab went great so hopefully it's all behind me nowand I just want to stay on top of it.

So how’s your fitness now? Seven months…Ever since I finished the tour really but even when I was on thetour I started writing and a bit before the tour so about seven months or a bit more.

Were you surprised to getstraight back into the Ireland squad? No I wasn’t surprised, I was delighted when I heard and I’m delighted to be back.

You’re back playing centre midfield for Birmingham, is this yourfavourite position? Last season was the first time since I went away that I got to play regularly in centremidfield. It’s my favourite position, my best position. Hopefully my left wing days arebehind me, thank God! I can fill in on the left but I don’t want to be claiming to be awinger.

How are Birmingham doing so far? We’ve been doing better away from home, we’ve been struggling in front of ourown fans, whether it’s down to nerves or what, I don’t know why that is.

Have you noticed a differentvibe in the squad this weekafter the retirements? No not really but I only arrived yesterday and there’s still a few of the lads to arriveyet. Whenever senior players step down then other senior players step up. It’s atransition period but there’s definitely quality in the squad.

Is there still much of a hangover from the Euros? I don’t think so. I wasn’t there so I don’t want to be asking the lads too much aboutit but I haven’t noticed anything.

After the heartbreak of injuryforced him out of Euro 2012Tallaght native Keith Faheycame back into the Irelandteam for the home game with Germany.InTallaght Magazine caught up with him in the squad headquarters in Malahideprior to the match. Even though the game itself was a disaster it was great to seeKeith back to full fitness and able to take his place on the team.

I know you’re still abig St Pats fan, you must be delighted they’re in the Cup Final? It's great to see them in the final. The squad has completelychanged since my time at Pat's, Sean O'Connor is back therenow. I played with Sean, though he moved away from Pat'sand went back again. I’d also know Christy the physio, butmost of the lads from my time are gone.

What about the 51-year gap sincePat's last lifted theFAI Cup? Everyone’s going to talk about the time frame but if forme, if I was involved, I wouldn’t want to talk about it! Butthey have to win it this year, it has to be their year. Theyshould do it, we had a great chance to do it in 2003 andthat didn't work out, hopefully 2012 is the year for Pat's.

Are you planning ongoing to the final? I had a look at the dates and I'd love to make it over forthe Cup final but I have a game with Birmingham on theSaturday and on the Tuesday so it's not ideal, I mightmake a day trip over on the Sunday if I can.

Of course you appearedon TV over the summer banging on a drumwith the Shed End Invinciblesduring a Pats V Shelbourne match?!Yeah, I probably don’t get to watch them as often as I’dlike I was in the directors box and at half time I went tosay hello to a few people I hadn’t seen in a while. It wasgreat to get down there!

Would you like to playfor St Pats again? Yes I look forward to having a spell there before the endof my career. Hopefully it’s a few years away but I’d liketo come back and play for Pats. Only Pats!

Lisa Fitzpatrick is one of Ireland’s hottest stylists with afashion CV that boasts real experience from buying for awholesale company to runningher own store on to mediawork and consultancy. It’s the knowledge she has built up over her career coupled with the fact that shehas, like most women, battled with her weight in the past that makes hersomeone people can believe in when it comes to fashion style and advice.

A down-to-earth attitude, her belief that fashion is a feeling and her contemptfor women’s shapes being compared to fruit also makes Lisa a very likeableperson. Editor, Emer Mulvaney caught up with Lisa who spoke past fashion fauxpas,’ having a slight case of OCD and life in the limelight.

When did you first start showing an interest in fashion? When I had a part time job in a clothes shop in Rathmines when I was 17. I was apart-time sales assistant and I went full time in the Summer. I got involved in windowdressing and I built up a strong and loyal customer base. That was the whole startingpoint. I went on to wholesale manufacturing and I took an interest in all areas of fashion.I always loved the idea of personal shopping and it’s something I still do in Fran andJane in Brown Thomas on a Saturday.

What is style to you?Everybody has a style. Just because someone has their own individual look doesn’tmean they are not stylish. People have to be allowed to express themselves. It doesn’tmean there won’t be disasters. I made many a dodgy mistake in my time, I wentthrough a blingtastic stage when I looked like a Vegas showgirl but that’s how yougrow into your own style. You won’t see me wearing mini skirts at 40 that’s for sure.

Your career has blossomed into a media one – how did thatcome about?I never thought about doing TV. I love being on stage but I never set out to have a careerin it – most people who do it have journalistic experience. I was asked to do a fashionslot, however, by Debbie O’Donnell on TV3 once and it went from there. I never had adream to do it but now I love the drama and the attention – I spend my days makingfriends and giving hugs!

You’ve been outspoken in thepast about women’s shapes being described as pears and apples – you disagree.I think the whole idea is horrendous. It’s not something I’d like to be called because I havebig thighs and a big bum. I’m not a pear. You don’t compare yourself to a fruit. You simplywork the good and hide the bad. The advantage for me is that I have been every shapeand size. I was a 16/18 at one point. That’s why I know what I am talking about whengiving women of all sizes as my advice.

So what is your opinion on thelittle black dress – is it really anecessity in every woman’swardrobe? The little black dress is not for everyone. Some people need colour, not everyone needsan LBD. I generally like to wear a blazer with a big scarf and jeans for casual wear. I don’tbelieve you need a capsule wardrobe you just have to dress for yourself. For example ifyour jeans are too tight and you’re hanging out over them go for high-rise or go up a size!My weight fluctuates but I don’t put huge pressure on myself, I don’t obsess about it. Ithink we should all dress how we want. Irish people have a tendancy to get a complimentand say ‘Penneys for €5” rather than thanks – we have to learn to say thanks and feelgood about ourselves.

How long does it take you to getready in the morning?I’m a dab had at it! I will know in my head what I am wearing so say, for example, I am onIreland AM I will have to be in at 6.45am. I need 15 minutes to get there and 45 minutesto get ready, shower etc and include 15 minutes for my make up and 10 minutes for myhair. I wear clip ins in my hair or if not I tie it up.

Tell me something people wouldbe surprised to know about you?I love IT. Anything Apple, anything gadgety. I haven’t got the iPhone 5 yet though. I lookedat it from a practical sense and it doesn’t offer me much more than what I have so I won’tbe trading in any time soon. It’s the same with clothes, if I have something as good I won’twaste money buying something else.

You presented SOS Save Our Shops whereyou helped struggling businesses – you had to be very honest do you think people were surprised by you?I definitely have a bit of OCD and if budgets had allowed I would havedone complete transformations. I’ll be honest I’m a bit of a LouisWalsh, I say what I feel and I don’t pussy foot around. I’m not lookingfor any more friends. If you like what I say good if not don’t ask for it[advice].

Will there be a new series of the show? There’s no new series planned but I’d love to do one. I’d actually liketo do a de-cluttering show where I go in and take people’s housesand wardrobes apart and throw everything unnecessary out! I’d liketo sort out people’s lives, their kids, even their fridges!

You will be giving a talkat The Red Line Book Festival in Tallaght in November – what canpeople expect?Yes I’m really excited about it after writing my own book. I’ll be givinga masterclass with style tips on how to dress and basic advice. I’mreally looking forward to it.

Your book has been ahuge success, well done.Thank you. I really enjoyed doing it. Viewers and listeners of the DerekMooney show brought it about. It didn’t take a whole lot of researchit’s all about what people are really looking for. There’s a lot of supporthere, lovely little stories and everyone got something from it.

So what’s next for you?I don’t know. One door closes and another one always opens so I’mexcited about what’s around the corner. At the end of the day whensomeone asks me to be involved in their business I am genuinelygrateful and will give it my all – I’m like that when it comes toanything I set my mind to.

Dublin Band Junahare an up and comingfive piece who released their first EP On Waves a fewmonths ago.Previous to this I hadn’t heard about the band. It seemshowever they were flying away under my radar aftergetting plenty of attention from the nation’s media.Airplay on some of the radio stations was backed up withmentions in the Irish music press and because of this Icouldn’t wait to hear what they were like.

On Waves is a four track E.P. which the band have said isa foretaste of what a future album will sound like.

It starts off with Feel Safe, a tune that begins with a slowpiano on its own playing a sad melody. This sets themood, which is kind of dark and lonely, before the tunespeeds up and gets less heavy. Once it gets going it’s anuplifting track and it finishes on a high.

The next tune is Burning in The Hallway which also startsout slowly. However in contrast to the previous tune this

start isn’t as sad and the band seem in a better mood asthey let rip with plenty of percussion and swirlingdrumbeats.

After this comes Sad Song and once again the band areback into melancholy territory as the singer looks backretrospectively at events from his life. As with the tracksthat precede it, this tune builds up towards the endbefore fading out with some nice piano.

The final track on the EP is Walk Me into the Ground andit deals with mourning and loss. It’s also a song aboutreflection because the story teller in this song is a motherspeaking to the family she seems to have left behind.

All in all it’s a fine debut EP from the band. It’s mellowfolk rock, played well with fine vocals delivering someheavy lyrics. If On Waves is an indication of what theirdebut album will be like then the signs are encouragingand I look forward to hearing more from this band.

To listen to On Waves please go to: www.junah.comwhere you can download it for free.

MADNESS the latestsingle from Muse isa strange mix ofQueen meetsGeorge Michaelthat surprisinglyworks really well!Matt Bellamy’s vocals would give Freddy a run for hismoney here and they even manage a Brian May-styleguitar solo in the middle.

Madness isn't like anything Muse have done before, and that's why it's so fascinating. Having had a goodfew listens to it on the radio over the past few weeksit’s really grown on me. The lyrics are so simple it'scatchy, it's surprising, and once again proves how Musecan change direction almost at will.

However, throughout all the different experiments withsound down the years there has always been that oneaspect of a Muse song that sounds like Muse, and whenyou listen to it, you still know its them. This is not thecase with Madness though.

There’s plenty of wobbly bass and electronica here witha very simplistic drumbeat that features throughout theentire tune, before it all builds up to the expectedepicness as the song ends brilliantly.

I’d imagine this single is going to divide the hardcorefans but may also win over a few new people who’venever listened to them much before.

"I have finally seen the light," cries frontman Bellamyas the song builds up and I reckon a fair few music fanswill too when they hear Madness.

Madness is the 2nd single to be released from the bandsforthcoming 6th album 2nd Law.

Is it a tablet? Is it aphone? Or both? Wereally don’t know –but it has some of thebest specs aroundand Samsung’s hoping the GalaxyNote will ship by thebucketload. It’s a phone/tablet hybrid that doesn’t really sit in anycategory but we look at it as a smartphone simply dueto the fact it can make calls. Samsung, however, is defi-nitely trying to create a new category of device with this5.3-inch screened behemoth.

It’s funny how mobile trends can change. Just a few yearsago manufacturers were falling over themselves tryingto outdo each other to provide the smallest handset inthe world. Motorola got them pretty thin with the RAZRline and Samsung’s own D500 was titchy.

Then something happened and big became cool. Yet, wedon’t seem to mind any more.

Just as well really, because the Galaxy Note is just that -big. Falling somewhere between the tablet and phonegoalposts, it’s not as enormous as pictures may imply butit is larger than your average smartphone. It’s fairly lightconsidering how heavy it could have been. This is a traitwe’ve come to expect in the Galaxy line with both theSamsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 handsets also beinglight as a feather.

To look at the Note, it looks just like a larger version of theS2. The front is incredibly minimalist with only a Samsunglogo and homescreen button visible to the eye. The frontfacing 2MP camera and light sensor are there but almostimpossible to see on the black model. The left hand sideholds only a volume rocker, the top houses the 3.5mmheadphone jack and there’s a power/lock-unlock buttonon the right. The micro USB charging and syncing portcan be located on the bottom.

The 8MP camera with LED flash is positioned in the cen-tre of the rear portion in the same way it is on the S2 al-though, bizarrely, Samsung has, once again, chosen tohave the actual glass covering of the lens protruding.

The crowning glory of the Note is the screen: 5.3" ofWXGA goodness (1280 x 800) and it is a belter. Samsunghas always been renowned for its good screens with eventhe Galaxy S giving us that wow factor last year.

We were bowled over by the S2’s Super AMOLED Plus butthe Note just blows that out of the water. 285ppi is whatit gives us and not only are colours vibrant and sharp butit looks easily as good as anything that Apple produceswith a ‘retina’ label, even though it’s obviously a lot bigger.

Under the hood, you'll find a dual-core 1.4GHz processor poweringthis beast and either 16GB or32GB of internal storage (whichyou can also expand by another32GB with removable memory.)

A 2,500mAh battery should give you plentyof juice but considering the size of the screen, which is always the biggest drainer, it may not go asfar as one hopes.

It’s difficult to see just who the Note is aimed at – mainlybecause it’s hard to give it a label and put firmly in thecamp of being just a phone or just a tablet. Samsungclaims it’s the kind of device a lady could carry around in

her handbag but it doesn’t feel like something that hasbeen solely designed with the girls in mind.

The nearest device we can think it compares to is the HTCFlyer though that’s been out a while now and is alreadybeing reduced in price. For some buyers it could very wellbe a choice between the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2 andwith the only real differences being size and the ‘S-Pen’,there’s not much in it.

At the time of writing, you can pick the Note up sim-freefor a shade under €599 which places it firmly at the topend of the spectrum and comparable with an unlockediPhone 4S 32GB.

You can of course pick one up on contract as well – TheSamsung Galaxy Note is available from Vodafone - pricesstarting from €49 on bill pay. Terms and conditionsapply. For more details visit www.vodafone.ie

The eighth main title in the Tekken series is shaping up to be a blast.Last year in Japan the game was released in arcades and had fansof the series going crazy over it. Veterans of the series who hadbeen around for a long time and played all the Tekkens reallyseemed to enjoy it,” says Katsuhiro Harada, Game Director ofthe Tekken Project. “And then on the other end of the spectrum there were the verynew players who were good at memorising things and learningquickly and they seemed to really enjoy the game systemas well.”

New to the TTT2 game, which didn't apper in the first game,it will have a storyline. But as of yet the story has not beenreleased. It's more of a “Dream Match”, giving fans of theseries the chance to play as almost every character in thegames series.

The gameplay expands on the tag mechanics featured inthe firstTekken Tag, allowing for extended tag combosand combined moves. New techniques include combinedtag throws which, if timed properly, can be escaped from. Also characters who have been tagged out regain somehealth over time, also At certain points, an inactivecharacter's life bar may flash, giving them a temporary boostin strength if they are tagged in.

Tag combos can now be done simultaneously with bothcharacters participating in the combo at the same time. Thegame also inherits gameplay features from Tekken 6, suchas "Bound" hits and walled arenas. Character-customizationis also be featured, similar to past Tekken games.

The console release of the game will featureover 50 characters, this includes thereturn of Kunimitsu, Michelle Chang, and Prototype Jack from the originalTekken, Angel and Alex from Tekken2,Tiger Jackson,Forest Law andAncient Ogre from Tekken 3, as well as"Tekken 4"'s Combot who can be customizedwith various moves from other characters.

Finally, the Jaguar XFSportbrake fills a largegap in the Britishfirm’s range. The stylish wagon goes up against the brilliant Audi A6Avant, BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes E-ClassEstate, and brings some style and personality to the class. It’s targeted mainly at Europe, so only diesels are offeredhowever four-wheel drive and hybrid versions arepromised imminently. You'll pay around €3,000 morefor the Sportbrake over a saloon but Jaguar expects asmany as a quarter of all XFs will be bought as Sportbrakes.

The Jaguar XF saloon is already a very handsome carbeing much more distinctive than its Audi, BMW andMercedes rivals. Designers have done a great jobintegrating the extra bodywork of the tail into the shape. The wheelbase is the same as the saloon’s, but the roofhas been lengthened. Head-turning features include theblacked-out B and C-pillars, which help make the car looklonger and slimmer. The D-pillars also get a gloss blackfinish – a detail borrowed from the XJ flagship – creatingthe effect of a wraparound rear screen. Inside, theSportbrake is the same as the saloon, with cool bluelighting and a clever rotary gear selector which rises upwhen the ignition is turned on.

Unlike the saloon range, the XF Sportbrake will only beavailable with diesel engines. That means a choice of163bhp or 190bhp 2.2-litre four-cylinder units, or a240bhp 3.0-litre V6. That’s no bad thing, in fact, for Irish

buyers the diesels make the most sense. Even the entry-level 163bhp diesel is quite fast, doing 0-60mph in justunder 10 seconds. The 190bhp version will be the pick, as it is much faster – 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds - and justas economical. Refinement is brilliant across the range, and the four-cylinder engines get the benefit of a slicknew eight-speed automatic. Handling is agile and involving - it is expected that the XF Sportbrake will be just asmuch fun to drive as the saloon.

The XF saloon received four stars in the Euro NCAP crash test – its Audi, BMW and Mercedes rivals have all scoreda maximum five stars. However, with a multitude of driver, passenger and side airbags, electronic stability controland a bonnet that pops up in a pedestrian impact to cushion the collision are all standard. Options includeblind-spot warning, tyre pressure monitors and a Parking Aid Pack, featuring front sensors and rear cameras, aswell as adaptive cruise control.

An official XF Sportbrake brochure created exclusively for iPad users is available to download at Apple’s AppStore. This brochure allows you to explore the design, engineering and technology stories behind the 2013 XFSportbrake, with video, high-quality imagery, interior and exterior colour and trim as well as detailed technicalspecifications. An involved Jewishfamily memoir centred on 264Japanese carvingsdeftly captures thegreat events of history. The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Family’s Century of Art andLoss, to give it its full title, is another of my mother’s rec-ommendations from her book club.

Edmund de Waal, an Englishman despite hisdistinctly Dutch surname, is a ceramicistwhose work is widely shown in muse-ums and galleries. At a dinner afterpresenting a paper on orientalismand Japanese pottery seentyears ago, he found himself re-counting an extraordinarystory he had told only to hiswife and close friends, about a collection ofminiature ivory andwood sculptures he hadinherited from his greatuncle Iggie.

"So I keep on talking," he remembers, "and I realise thatI've broken some kind of pact with myself – to mentionit at all in public seemed to be crossing a boundary. Andthen when I got the reaction I got, I knew I faced a diffi-cult question – in fact the question was put to me verydirectly by the art historians over dinner: 'What are yougoing to do with this story? Why are you telling it to us?Why haven't you written it down?'"

De Waal describes The Hare With Amber Eyes as being"about loss and diaspora and about the survival of ob-jects". He says it began with the netsuke – "small, toughexplosions of exactitude" – but "eventually I realised itis actually about identity: what do you know about whoyou are? And what kind of stories do families tell aboutthemselves?"

The 264 Japanese wood and ivory carvings, none of thembigger than a matchbox are central to the

narrative of the story. When he inher-ited the 'netsuke', they unlocked

a story far larger and moredramatic than he could

ever have imagined.From a burgeoning

empire in Odessa tofin de siecle Paris,

from occupied Vienna to Tokyo, Edmund de Waal tracesthe netsuke's journey through generations of his remark-able family against the backdrop a tumultuous century.

This book is a wonderful blend of history, biography witha sprinkling of the appreciation of art that only an artistor craftsperson can share. He brings this artist’s sensibilityto his writing, with a meticulous attention to the detailof language, its rhythms and its evocative potential. I gotlost in this book and didn’t want the history to come toan end. It’s a strange book but one I would recommendunreservedly.

About The AuthorEdmund Arthur Lowndes de Waal OBE is a British ceramicartist, and author of The Hare with Amber Eyes. After read-ing English at Cambridge, Edmund spent a further yearstudying at the Mejiro Ceramics Studio in Tokyo. He livesand works in London.

I have naturally very dark hairbut would love to go platinumblonde, what should I do aboutmy dark eyebrows? Vanessa, Kilcoole

Hi Vanessa, there are a few ways to lighten your brows. You can use a facial bleachwhich many people do to lighten their brows or if you would rather use makeup todo this is possible also.

To lighten the brows using makeup you will need four products, a small fan brush, fix plus spray, polished ivory chromacake and Studio finish concealer.

This process is quite affective and it is quick and easy. First you need to spray thechromacake product with the fix plus spray, just so it is a little moist. Next take youfan brush and apply a little of the product on to the brush. Then using an upward stroke brush the productthrough your brows (try not to use too much chromacake). When using this methoddo it before you apply any of yourmakeup. For the finishing touchesuse your Studio finish concealerto highlight under you brow(this will create a clean andpolished finished look)

I over plucked my eyebrows when Iwas younger and now I want toachieve the fuller more natural lookfrom the runway. How do I goabout it? Niamh, Firhouse

Hi Niamh, if you can stand it, book an appointment with a professional and leave your browsentirely alone for 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, you can use clear brow gel (Maybelline havea really good clear one) to give them some shape; combine this with an eyebrow pencil andor an eyeshadow to get that full but natural brow.

If you have any questions about makeup application, AnJels Pro Makeup team ishere to help! Simply email the team on [email protected] and check the nextedition to see if your question has been answered by the experts!

Rake up leavesIt’s a job we all hate, but the lawn or patio will look untidy,so it’s worth removing them and they can be added to yourcompost.

Rejuvenating Your LawnIf you want a fantastic lawn, but don’t want the expenseof buying turf, try creating it from seed. Grass seed is bestsown from late summer to mid-autumn; there is less com-petition from weeds, and the soil is warm and damp fromrain. Perfect for seeds to germinate.

If you miss the opportunity to sow in Autumn, try in April, but only if you can give the new grass plenty of water. Donot attempt to sow in summer - it’s unlikely you’ll be ableto give the lawn enough water to prevent it from shrivellingup and dying.

Using seed has several advantages over turf. Apart fromthe cost, there are lots of different mixes available and seedis better for trickier areas, such as slopes and corners.

To remove damaged areas of turf, simply lift worn areas oflawn either reseed or relay turf. The warm moist conditionsat this time of the year mean that it will quickly re-establishcomplete scarifying, aerating, top dressing and apply au-tumn lawn feed before the end of the month.

October is also a good time to lay turf. Divide herbaceousperennials. Plant some back in the ground; you can pot-upsome and give away to your friends in the Spring.

Plant out spring bedding and biennials, such as wall-flow-ers, for Spring displays. Pots and hanging baskets can beplanted with spring bedding, and grouped with bulbs, grasses, Cyclamen and Violas for a colourful display.

Lift tender perennial bedding plants such as Pelargoniums,Fuchsias and Marguerites (Argyranthemum) before thefirst frost. Pot them up and store in a sheltered place, mak-ing sure that the compost does not dry out or become toowet.

PondsThin out any dense patches of water plants in your pondand clean up any litter and leaves from the surface and thebottom. Thin out oxygenating plants. Do not forget to placea net over the pond to protect from falling leaves.

Make sure that ponds are topped up with water, if you needto top up your pond check the PH and nitrogen levels ofthe water afterwards.

Take cuttings of tender perennials and shrubs. IncludingSalvias, Penstemon, Lavender and Rosemary. PropagateClematis, Honeysuckle and Wisteria plants by layering.

How to find out what type of soil you haveThere is an old saying ‘the answer lies in the soil’ and it’strue. Get to know your soil and you can add the right thingsto improve it, and grow the types of plants that will thrivein it. To find the pH of your soil you need a soil-testing kit, available at any garden centre. This will help you find outwhat kind of soil you’re gardening with. And with this smallpiece of information it will help you to find the pH of yoursoil and you'll know how to feed your soil and what plantsyou can grow.

It pays to take three or four samples from the externaledges of the garden as you may have more than one soiltype, each favouring different plants and treatments. Thetest will show whether your samples are acidic (below 7),neutral (7) or alkaline (above 7) Most garden plants likesoil that is slightly acidic at 6.5, but there’s still a good se-lection of plants for neutral and alkaline soils.

Do you want great looking abs? Do youwant to rid yourself of that muffin topand be the envy of all your friends?I'm here to tell you that you can have BOTH! Introducing the D24FIT-ABS 1000, arevolutionary new core training device developed by top exercise scientists designed togive you jaw-dropping abs that are both SEXY and only takes 2 mins a day!

For just three painless payments of €19.95, you too can...Sorry but everybody wants a strong, aesthetically pleasing midsection. The nonsense fitnessvultures know this, which is why they go to such great lengths trying to sell you gadgetsand exercise classes to supposedly help you achieve this universal goal.

But you don't need to pick up the phone or make three easy payments of any amount. You just need to continue reading.

What is my core: In simple terms it’s the Major muscles included are the pelvic floormuscles, transversus abdominis, multifidus, internal and external obliques, rectusabdominis, erector spinae (sacrospinalis) especially the longissimus thoracis, and thediaphragm. Minor core muscles include the latissimus dorsi, gluteus maximus, andtrapezius.

Now we have that out of the way, here are some benefits of core training;1. It’s good for you! Core exercises train your deep abdominal muscles - the main one

is called the transversus abdominis. It’s a very deep muscle that surrounds yourentire waist, supporting all your abdominal structures including your lower back.

2. Core training is the missing piece of most exercise programs. Most people doabdominal exercises as part of their regular routines. And for some they may bedoing more harm than good, the godfather of core development, Dr. Stuart McGillstates; that repeated spinal flexion is detrimental to the intervertebral discs (situps) not good if you have a back problem!!

3. Lower back stabilization. A strong and healthy lower back requires a strong andhealthy group of core muscles – the TVA, multifidus, erector spinae, longissimusthoracis, rectus abdominis, and internal and external obliques. A strong core providesweight-bearing support to the lower back, freeing your spinal vertebras, joints, andmuscles to do what they were designed to do – move your body around in space.

4. Core training provides remarkable unexpected benefits, including improved balanceand coordination and positional awareness – proprioception. Also improved flexibilityis the natural result of improved lower back stabilization.

Make Core training part of your routine and make sure you’re doing the CORE-rectly!

GLENANNE SPORTSClub starts its 27thseason in St Mark’s Community Schoolwhere Glenanne Parkhas become home toone of the most successful hockeyclubs in recent decades. The Club’s origins date back to 1943 (formerly calledGraftonians) and to Fortfield Road in Terenure where theclub resided offering many sports to members.

In 1970, the club was evicted from Fortfield Road to makeway for a housing development. It was a severe blow, hockey was now the club’s only sport and Glenanne thenled a nomadic existence, from 1970 to 1985 they usedvarious grounds especially Tallaght Community School.

In 1975 the women’s section was re-founded and thishelped the resurgence of the club. The Ladies 1sts wentfrom the bottom division to senior status in 10 years andcreated a great buzz in the 80′s winning all junior trophiesavailable in one season including an all Ireland.

The Men’s 1sts struggled to get back to senior ranks anddid not do so until the end of 1984-85. In 89 the

club did a deal with the Trustees of St Marksand the Dept of Education as the club leased

a site from them, built Glenanne Parkand gave the School a license to use

the grounds during the day in termtime.

Glenanne Park was officially opened by President MaryRobinson on 10 April 1991 just 21 years after the club hadlost its original grounds.

Recently the men’s section has been a golden era in thehistory of the club. From 51 to 83 the club didn’t winamajor trophy. When the men’s 1sts won the Railway Cupin 1983 the Irish Times headline ran “Glenanne CelebrateRare Success”.

Following this the Golden Generation forged their way tothe forefront of Leinster and Irish hockey in the‘Naughties,’ A first Leinster League title in April 2000 wasfollowed by the club’s one and only All-IrelandChampionship/League win. Since then more league titles(2002, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012) have followed as well asIrish Senior Cup’s (2007, 2010) and Leinster Senior Cups(2002, 2004, 2007, 2008) to join their breakthrough 1996success. The first Senior trophy the men’s section ever wonwas the Neville Cup in 1985 and the club has collectedmore since then (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007,2009, 2010). However, perhaps the men’s most impressiveachievement came in Europe when they took home the2008 European Club Challenge in Paris after an epic winover hosts Montrouge. That win launched them intoEuropean elite competition the Euro Hockey League in2009, with their best finish coming in season 2010/2011when the reached the last 16.

Meanwhile, the Ladies havn’t been quiet!. Their mostoutstanding success came in 2008 when they won theIrish Junior Cup and also gained promotion to the LeinsterSenior division. Since then they have consolidated with7th place finishes. Last season saw the Ladies 2nds and3rds win their divisions and the 3rds also won the Leinster9/10 cup. This season Irish International Nikki Symmonshas taken over coaching the Ladies.

Glenanne SC has joined with the Irish Hockey Associationand Tallaght Community School to develop theSchool/Club link for 2012/13. This includes 'Tricks 4 Sticks'the IHA’s flag-

ship schools development programme and support fromGlenanne SC with donations of hockey sticks, goal postsand monthly coaches sessions by their senior men andwomen.

Glenanne will also be sponsoring a Glenanne Inter TallaghtSchools Cup with St Mark's Community School and TallaghtCommunity School at the end of the school year.

BILLY DENNEHYThe Tralee Native Has Really Made AMark In Tallaght Since His 2010 Transfer. Billy Dennehy is one of ten Rovers players who are contracted for the 2013 season. The Tralee native has been a key player forShamrock Rovers since signing for the club in 2010 from Cork City.

Previous to that he played with Derry City and was managed by Roy Keane during his time at Sunderland. To date this season, the winger has scored six goals, a return that he may view as disappointing given his tally in 2011.

Dennehy was actually top scorer in all competitions with Rovers last season with 16 goals in total including 9 scored in theleague. He also topped the assist charts at the club, showing his value in helping Rovers have their most successful season ever– Airtricity League champions, Setanta Sports Cup Winners and Europa League group stage participants. He racked up 13 assistswith 9 coming in the league.

His prowess from dead ball situations is a real assist to Rovers and he has scored three memorable free kicks in Tallaght. His firstwas a rocket into the top corner of the net against Sligo in September 2010. He also scored two in a week last season, first againstGalway United and the second against PAOK in the Europa League group stages.

Jeckle And HydeDisplays From RoversThere were two contrasting performances from Shamrock Rovers at the start of October. They startedthe month by beating Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds 3-1. However, the Hoops followed thatwith defeat to Derry in a game the Candystripes dominated in Tallaght Stadium.

Coming into the match on the back of the 7-0 home win over Dundalk, Rovers kept the performance levels high andled 2-0 at the break with goals from Killian Brennan and Ken Oman.

Brennan opened the scoring from a free kick as he struck the ball over the wall to score with the shot clipping theunderside of the bar on the way in. It was his third of the season but he soon had to go off due to a calf injury whichalso ruled him out of the Derry game.

Rovers, and McCabe in particular, caused Bray difficulties with balls into the box. Ken Oman had come close early in thegame from a McCabe corner before the two combined again just after the half an hour mark to make it 2-0. McCabe’sin swinging corner was met by the well timed run of captain Oman who headed powerfully into the back of the net.

“In the first half, I thought we were very much in control of the game,” said Rovers Director of Football Brian Laws. “Welooked composed on the ball, passed it well at times when we could.”

The Hoops allowed Bray a goal 11 minutes into thesecond half but McCabe sealed things 10 minutes fromtime with a penalty after Twigg had been fouled.

“I thought we looked menacing from set plays andcaused them all sorts of problems. What pleased memost was the fact that we were getting a lot of crossesin the box,” explained Laws.

It was a different story in the next game. Rovers took onDerry City in Tallaght for the 3rd time this season. Derryhad won 3-0 in the first leg of the Setanta Sports Cup,with the other league game being a 1-1 draw. This timeDerry inflicted a 3-1 defeat. Rovers trailed 2-0 at halftime after conceding a 6th minute header and a penaltythat Rovers felt aggrieved with. When Oscar Janssonforced Derry’s Rory Patterson around him and away fromgoal, there was minimal contact. Patterson seemed totake an extra stride before going down easily. Assistantreferee Mark Douglas raised his flag for the penalty.

The Hoops were 3-0 down a minute into the second halfbut pulled a goal back through Tommy Stewart. Thegame was played in front of several hundred Germanfans in Dublin to see their national team win 6-1. Rovershad promoted the game with the away fans and werepleased with the numbers who made it to Tallaght.

“I could turn round and say losing Finn out of midfieldhurt us,” said Laws after the game about the departureof his star midfielder after only 27 minutes due to injury.“McCabe was out of side. All of a sudden, we’ve had threeof the players who’ve been in our midfield out. So thathasn’t helped but I wouldn’t use it as an excuse.”
