“In our globalized world, being

multi lingual and being able to deal

with different countries’ peculiar-

ities are competitive advantages.

International companies' success

frequently depends on the readi-

ness to interact in intercultural contexts.

Learning how to communicate in different languages

and building strong intercultural competence, gives

Intercultural Management gradu ates the chance to

set up their future career."

Dr. Karin Martin, Entrepreneurial Linguist

INTERNATIONALITY

INTERNATIONAL STUDY EXPERIENCE

Intercultural Management is an international

Bachelor's program taught in English comprised of

local and international students. Students will learn

at least one additional foreign language (Italian

or German) and can choose from a wide range of

elective foreign language courses (currently French,

Russian, Slovene and Spanish). Students’ language

studies in Italian or German will be consolidated in

Italy and Austria and students have the possibility

to also spend an entire semester studying at one of

our many international partner Institutions of Higher

Education across Europe and the world.

The School of Management has over 50 partner

Institutions of Higher Education in over 30 countries,

from Europe to North, South and Central America,

Southern Africa, Western and Southeast Asia.

Bangkok, Dublin, Bologna and Moscow: All these

and many more spectacular and culturally diverse

cities have been explored by Management students.

Students have the possibility to spend up to twelve

months of their studies either working or studying

internationally.

INTERNATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE

Intercultural Management also incorporates a 12 week

internship where the practical skills and theoretical

knowledge acquired can be applied in an interna-

tional business context. Completing your internship

abroad will allow you to test and reflect upon your

intercultural communication skills as well as further

your language skills. We are proud of our interna-

tional focus because it fosters intercultural learning

and personal growth, the basis of our Intercultural

Management program.

“The bachelor´s program in

'Intercultural Management', with

its unique focus on combin-

ing business and management

know-how, languages, and inter-

cultural skills, will not only provide

students with competences that are in

high demand in today´s globalized business environ-

ment, it is also perfect preparation for internationally-

oriented postgraduate programs, like the CUAS School

of Management English-taught Master´s program in

DEVELOPING LANGUAGE COMPETENCE

Foreign Language skills are an integral part of the Intercultural

Management program. Intercultural Management is taught

through English as a medium of instruction. Hence, applicants

require strong English skills (B2) to apply and will further expand

their ability to use English in an academic and business con-

text. Intercultural Management students choose to specialize

in either German or Italian. Austrian and German-speaking

students require intermediate language skills in either Italian

or another foreign language to be able to study Intercultural

Management. Non-German speaking students require no

Italian or German skills and can learn German as total begin-

ners and reach level B2.

Additionally, all Management students have the option to

choose from our elective foreign language courses in French,

Russian and Spanish.

Deutsch als Fremdsprache für Intercultural Management

Studierende in Kärnten versteht sich nicht nur als

Fremdsprachenerwerb in muttersprachlicher Umgebung.

Intercultural Management (ICM) students

in Carinthia do not only learn German as

a foreign language in a native speaking

environment. After mastering the basics

of communication, students begin to

actively use and develop their German

language skills in various intercultural situ-

ations. The study of cultural, economic and

intercultural facets of communication is the focus

of the German courses offered.

Competenze nello scambio economico e culturale con l’Italia?Non soltanto l’Italia è il secondo partner economico

dell’Austria. Il sistema Italia occupa un posto di rilievo in-

ternazionale in molti altri ambiti: nel design, nel turismo

e in settori specifici dell’alta tecnologia. Anche la cul-

tura quotidiana italiana è caratterizzata da grande

attrattività. Non esitate allora a decidere di

studiare in un ambito internazionale alle

porte dell’Italia, sviluppando le compe-

tenze veicolari e interculturali necessarie

per partecipare a una delle più affasci-

nanti realtà europee.

Why promote economic and cultural exchange with Italy?Italy is not only Austria’s second most important trading

partner, Italy is an international player in numerous sec-

tors: design, fashion, tourism and specialized high tech-

nology. Life in Italy is also highly appealing. Study in an

international environment close to Italy and develop the

necessary language and intercultural competence to

be able to participate in one of the most fascinating and

strategically vital European realities.

VOICES FROM THE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

"Carinthia University of Applied Sciences is a longstanding partner of the region and it is good news that

Carinthia now offers an English-taught Bachelor in Business. With the new international program 'Intercultural

Management', Carinthia will be able to further strengthen its ties with our international partners and young

graduates will be in a stronger position to find valuable work in the Europe of tomorrow."

Peter Kaiser

Governor of Carinthia

"Education is the key to personal growth and an international education allows you to grow outside your

comfort zone and discover your own talents. The international setting which 'Intercultural Management' cre-

ates with international students, lecturers and locations is ideal for students to learn and practice intercultural

teamwork, feed their curiosity and embrace difference. Studying Business and Languages is an attractive

combination upon which employers can build employees motivated to make a difference."

Monika Kircher

Former Senior Director, Industrial Affairs

Infineon Technologies Austria AG, Villach

"I am very happy to see that Carinthia University of Applied Sciences now offers an international Bachelor

program, specializing in Business and Languages. With over 30 years' work experience, I am confident that

'Intercultural Management' graduates, with added language skills and intercultural knowhow, will be able to

add value to any business. Learning how to deal with cultural differences in an international learning environ-

ment means that 'Intercultural Management' graduates will be better equipped to solve tomorrow's prob-

lems in today's international business world. In addition to our efforts at the CIC and ISC (International School

Carinthia), ICM will help us to make Carinthia even more internationally-minded."

Roland Graf

Kapsch BusinessCom AG Klagenfurt

Chairman Carinthia International Club

"Success in today's dynamic and globalized business  environment depends on providing innovative busi-

ness solutions adapted to customer needs. My work is highly dependent on a multinational team. Without

the ability to communicate and understand each other, and our customers, we would not be able to do

business effectively. I strongly believe that 'Intercultural Management' provides students with the right mix of

courses to best prepare them for a career in international business."

Alessandro Dazza

Vice-President, High Resistance Minerals business group, Imerys

Managing Director, Imerys Fused Minerals Villach GmbH

“Competent intercultural communicators are people who can code-shift – people who are perceptually

agile in their ability to communicate in different ways. So what students need to learn, and will do so from

the ‘Intercultural Management’ program,   is how to become more interculturally sensitive – how to loosen

the perceptual constraints of ethnocentrism and to organise their experience of the world in different ways.”
