if the summer just passed is a good indicator of the strength of either Gibraltar or Chesterton, then it seems both are in good shape.

the Chief Minister was able to deliver an extremely healthy report on the Gibraltar economy in hisannual budget address to Parliament in July 2011: GDP growth at 6% pa; record employment levels;a record budget surplus; and further reductions in tax rates (latest tax tables are at the back of thismagazine). indeed, in an interview with GBC about the budget, Professor Albrecht ritschl from the London School of economics commented that “From a european perspective we should be green with envy.”

Our own performance at Chesterton refl ected the success of the wider economy. Each month we add to the number of residential properties being let to tenants under our management. residential sales are also well ahead of prior years and it would seem that our forecast growth in 2011 will exceed our expectations. Internationally, we have opened further offi ces in Italy and Barbados (see inside back cover for our list of offi ces). This growing international presence, coupled with our quality of advice and service locally, ensure we are at the forefront of assisting both individuals and companies to reap the fi scal and lifestyle benefi ts of moving to Gibraltar.

this summer we advised Computacenter on their establishment in Gibraltar. Computacenter, europe’s leading independent provider of it infrastructure Services and Solutions, has over 10,000 employees and revenues of over £2.7bn. their decision to establish a permanent base here is testimony to the success of Gibraltar. Marc Fryer, Computacenter’s Client Director, told a local magazine: “Chesterton have been much more than property consultants. not only have they advised us on suitable property for our new operation, they have also guided us through certain laws, processes and intricacies of setting up an operation in Gibraltar.”

Our sister company, Chesterton Property Management, under the stewardship of John McKillop Smith FRICS FBEng FBIFM has performed well in its fi rst six months. Personal Income TaxIndividuals can opt to be taxed under one of two systems, whichever is most advantageous.

(i) Allowances Based System

Tax is calculated on net taxable income, after being reduced by allowances and deductibles:
