Here in Gibraltar, we are certainly feeling the benefi ts of a low tax economy. Chesterton’s results for Q4 2010 and Q1 2011 have both surpassed the equivalent periods in all of our prior years. We believe this success may be attributed to the certainty of the 10% corporation tax rate (since Jan 2011) and testimony to the quality of service we consistently aspire to achieve.

We often fi nd ourselves at the forefront of advising companies and individuals seeking to relocate to these parts. It is a position which we relish and we recognise the importance of our role in properly selling Gibraltar and its many benefi ts to clients. Once a decision has been made to relocate, there is much to do and to this end we assist every step of the way, negotiating leases, sourcing bank funding, advising on residency issues and introducing the right tax advice.

Last month, Chesterton Property Management launched a new service to manage unoccupied properties for those owners who are frequently away from Gibraltar and who require professional management of their asset. This month, we launch a series of short let apartments available for three days to three months. We will continue to respond to client requirements as we evolve our services.

Another new growth area for us, perhaps surprisingly given its economic diffi culties, is Spain. Individuals moving to Gibraltar still enjoy having access to a weekend home, and staff of companies moving into Gibraltar, often choose, whether by design or fi nancial need, to live in Spain. And now, of course, there are some very attractive opportunities for the buyer. We can help source some of these opportunities for clients.

Back in Gibraltar, there remains little certainty that any of the developers of the new planned offi ce developments will start construction before the summer. We can currently offer a total of 5,000 sq m of offi ce space in Gibraltar, however, it’s the more modern, open plan, grade ‘A’ quality space which is in greatest demand.
