Programming for All-Star Ballpark Heaven Tournament
Format Denise is expecting 6 hours of the day to be committed to baseball activities with one hour for lunch I provided a potential weekly schedule at the bottom of this document with some options of how to allot the campersrsquo time I also provided some recommendations for how to deal with severe weather It may be wise to provide a list of sportsactivities for each family to ask their camper which sportsactivities they would like to do This way when the camper shows up to camp there can be a way of arranging the campers to the sports they chose to play for the week I am not sure if Denise plans on allowing day campers as well as overnight campers for those who live close by The counselors will likely need background checks done before hiring You also may want to consider organizing the kids into age groups so 8 year olds are not competing against 14 year olds Many activitiessports may be held off campus and take a bus or van to the location Van rentals
Counselors Duties include but are not limited to making sure each camper gets to each activity addressing each camperrsquos health situation (many kids are on medication or are allergic to certain foods which is a very complicated processhellip I recommend acquiring an entire list from each parent of each respective camperrsquos medical scenario) make sure each camper is in dorm at set time etc Counselors also assist in many coaching of sports It looks like Denise plans on having about 6 teams of 72 kids paired to one counselor for an activity If coaches were hired to come in to help out with certain sports they will typically be paid less because they are not with the kids the majority of the day The counselors should be advised to either receive or renew their cpr certification This is usually paid for by the organization as is all training
Potential Employees Advertising open positions for this camp should be one of the top priorities Many of the counselors may come from all over if the camp is advertised well With a popular and prestigious
place such as the Field of Dreams it should not be difficult to find qualified coachescounselors Another very important thing to consider is a training staff I would highly recommend employing a training staff to be on the facility site at least until the campers go to sleep Many medical issues unfortunately can arise especially with the age group 8-14 The training staff will likely be the highest paid employees outside of the head counselors and or people directly below Many times fortunately the training staff may only deal with bloody noses bruises cuts or scrapes But in case that emergency situation does occur it will be great to supply the camp with a training staff You may even decide to provide some internship positions to attract college students (so you do not have to hire the most expensive training staff in the country) Additionally in case of a situation where a camper happens to break his leg you will need the training staff to get there immediately and transport that camper to the hospital as soon as possiblehellipto the right is a link giving a cheaper option to what trainers can drive in order to get around more easily Golf carts You could also use these carts to deliver water to each activitysport on facility grounds such as these Water jugs I recommend having one of these at each activitysport (and one per dug out) all week especially with the heat of summer and being on turf (which is much hotter than grass as I am sure you are aware) In the first year that turf will be scorching hot and at times can be unbearable in the heat of 90 degrees So promoting employment on the website would likely be smart in order to find some qualified trainers etc
Outside expertise criteria Typically coaches or counselors (as a general rule) should ideally be better than the campers themselves at whatever activity it is and have much more experience at that activity Experience being most important as well as the ability to teach the skills Obviously stressing FUN as the top priority Some coaches may qualify for a more costly salary if they have certified coaching experience in a certain area

- EBay may be cheapest option for gaming consoles (ie Xbox 360 Xbox One or playstation)
would need controllers as well Keep in mind eBay items often sell quickly and can be more
complicated than other sites Counselor can monitor a handful of kids but I would not
recommend putting a large group of kids (over 5) in a room with only a certain amount of
controllers available to play Unless you were inclined to purchase multiple consoles then you
could entertain about 10-15 campers in a room

360rsquos are on the decline as they were invented in 2005 Xbox one and the new PlayStation are typically
the consoles kids this age are playing but most expensive of the types
Horseshoe throwing Another activity they may not have much experience playing Found on Dickrsquos
Sporting goods httpwwwdickssportinggoodscomproductshorseshoesjsp
- Solid game with a group of 12 or so kids I recommend buying 3 sets of decent horseshoes using

Stargazingeducation Go to the field and have the kids spread out and relaxor have guest come in and
describe sights
- If this was a less serious activity you could honestly just use it as a before bed activity where a
counselor just uses the star app on the phone to pinpoint all the different stars Could work
really well I have never heard of a person who specializes in this to come and talk about it If
you wanted to buy a telescope that could be something the kids would find pretty cool Though
it would take some knowledge on how to use the telescope After some research most people
would not buy a telescope for under $300 and some of the best are upwards of $4000

Swimming Not sure if going off the site is an option but if they have an hour or 2 to head to the pool on
a hot day could be nice
- I am sure you are well aware of the Dyersville area so if there is a pool that you wanted to rent

do swimming lessons as well Always refreshing during the summer

Track and Field activities where the kids can test their different skills using activities from a meet

- Now that I have thought about it this might be too difficult to do without an actual track Unless
you are able to rent out a nearby high school track Let me know if this is something that
interests you but for now I will hold off on the research
Volleyball Unsure of access to a volleyball court but an option
- If no sand volleyball courtsor gym courts are available within reasonable distance you could
consider just buying the net and posts to put in grass which would still be very fun (also safer
than hardwood surfaces) I am unsure if there will be space to put this in but I will post a link to
a volleyball set below you can determine if you want one or two sets Considering that usually 6
v 6 allows for 12 kids to play at a time on one net I put 2 options on Dickrsquos as the site to check
out but eBay could have some better dealshellip just dealing with shady people sometimes can be
too much of a hassle The first link I posted had some bad reviews but some of those reviews
were from college volleyball players who most likely abuse the net 14 yr olds and younger will
not produce that sort of a beatinghellip so the 2nd option could be better due to it being cheaper

Volunteer work Have kids do something within the communityclean up garbage
- It was difficult to find clear volunteer opportunities for kids online in Dyersville so you may know
better than I do about volunteer work offered there I think it would be wise to consider doing
something like this especially with some of the unfortunate negative reaction from the
community about the facility potentially going up The community would definitely come to
appreciate it if the kids did something once a week to help out Let me know if this is something
you would be interested in
Major sports soccer flag football basketballhellip
- Pretty easy to find coachescounselors who have a ton of experience playing mainstream sports
like these Searching local high school kids and colleges for work would be a good idea Soccer I
recommend having 5 more balls than kids So whatever size of the group letrsquos say 15hellip I would
buy 20 You donrsquot need the best because the kids likely wonrsquot complain at that agehellip Soccer
balls Therersquos a link to soccercom with some options of bulk deals I also am not sure on if you
plan on wanting goals and basketball hoops but those are obviously pretty crucial to those two
sports Football you may only need the footballs for the type of drills the kids would do and
some cones I donrsquot have much knowledge in understanding what a good football feels like but I
would imagine footballs deteriorate much less quickly than soccer balls It would be wise to
purchase some flag football belts so the kids can play actual games

- The Select soccer balls in the first link are very nicehellip you do not have to buy those I was just
having trouble finding the cheap ones
- The second link labeled conespennies seems to be a good deal Also you would want to buy
pennies for coaches to separate kids into teams for multiple sports You can find that through
the same link
- The third link are the type of goals you would most likely purchase instead of the big hunky
official soccer goals These goals are not incredible easy to move but much easier to store than
real goals If you are not interested in purchasing big goals like that you can consider buying
PUGG goals like these PUGG goals The smaller the goals though the more limited the coach is
in games to play
- I could not find bulk size purchases for footballs but Wilsoncom gave an idea of what youth and
junior prices for individual balls looks like All around $40
- The last link looks like a good site to buy basketballs in bulkhellip although I am still unsure of your
hoop situation and where they would play
- Life expectancy Footballs soccer balls basketballs- last years Cones- last forever Pennies- rips
etc may require a purchase of more in a few years Coerver goals- About 6 years Flag belts-
replace every 3 years
Down time Similar to Loras there is a time in the day when the campers get a time to lay down and
rest
- This was essentially nap time and I believe it was about 45 minutes long Also good for the
counselors who can catch a break as well
Field Trips Unsure of the ability to do sohellip but a trip to the zoo or aquarium would be fun for the kids
Or other attractions in DubuqueDyersville

- For whiffleball you would want to play on a shortened field due to the short distance that the
ball travels I posted a link to an example of what the games might look like You might need
some simple bases to put down Whiffleball usually does not require mitts just bats and balls In

Hiking Could go to the Mines of Spain here in Dubuque
- The Mines of Spain is a very popular place to go to here in Dubuque Many of my friends go it is
a pretty incredible place and if there is time to make the trip during the week I would definitely
recommend it I submitted a link below if you are still unfamiliar with it You may not need any
outside expertise if you find a counselorcoach that is very familiar with the Mines of Spain but I
do believe you can access a guide through the website When I checked out the website it looks

place such as the Field of Dreams it should not be difficult to find qualified coachescounselors Another very important thing to consider is a training staff I would highly recommend employing a training staff to be on the facility site at least until the campers go to sleep Many medical issues unfortunately can arise especially with the age group 8-14 The training staff will likely be the highest paid employees outside of the head counselors and or people directly below Many times fortunately the training staff may only deal with bloody noses bruises cuts or scrapes But in case that emergency situation does occur it will be great to supply the camp with a training staff You may even decide to provide some internship positions to attract college students (so you do not have to hire the most expensive training staff in the country) Additionally in case of a situation where a camper happens to break his leg you will need the training staff to get there immediately and transport that camper to the hospital as soon as possiblehellipto the right is a link giving a cheaper option to what trainers can drive in order to get around more easily Golf carts You could also use these carts to deliver water to each activitysport on facility grounds such as these Water jugs I recommend having one of these at each activitysport (and one per dug out) all week especially with the heat of summer and being on turf (which is much hotter than grass as I am sure you are aware) In the first year that turf will be scorching hot and at times can be unbearable in the heat of 90 degrees So promoting employment on the website would likely be smart in order to find some qualified trainers etc

interests you but for now I will hold off on the research

Major sports soccer flag football basketballhellip
- Pretty easy to find coachescounselors who have a ton of experience playing mainstream sports
like these Searching local high school kids and colleges for work would be a good idea Soccer I
recommend having 5 more balls than kids So whatever size of the group letrsquos say 15hellip I would
buy 20 You donrsquot need the best because the kids likely wonrsquot complain at that agehellip Soccer
balls Therersquos a link to soccercom with some options of bulk deals I also am not sure on if you
plan on wanting goals and basketball hoops but those are obviously pretty crucial to those two
sports Football you may only need the footballs for the type of drills the kids would do and
some cones I donrsquot have much knowledge in understanding what a good football feels like but I
would imagine footballs deteriorate much less quickly than soccer balls It would be wise to
purchase some flag football belts so the kids can play actual games

having trouble finding the cheap ones

Volleyball Unsure of access to a volleyball court but an option

a volleyball set below you can determine if you want one or two sets Considering that usually 6
v 6 allows for 12 kids to play at a time on one net I put 2 options on Dickrsquos as the site to check

too much of a hassle The first link I posted had some bad reviews but some of those reviews
were from college volleyball players who most likely abuse the net 14 yr olds and younger will

Major sports soccer flag football basketballhellip
- Pretty easy to find coachescounselors who have a ton of experience playing mainstream sports
like these Searching local high school kids and colleges for work would be a good idea Soccer I

sports Football you may only need the footballs for the type of drills the kids would do and

the same link

Volleyball Unsure of access to a volleyball court but an option

consider just buying the net and posts to put in grass which would still be very fun (also safer

Volleyball Unsure of access to a volleyball court but an option
- If no sand volleyball courtsor gym courts are available within reasonable distance you could
consider just buying the net and posts to put in grass which would still be very fun (also safer
than hardwood surfaces) I am unsure if there will be space to put this in but I will post a link to
a volleyball set below you can determine if you want one or two sets Considering that usually 6

too much of a hassle The first link I posted had some bad reviews but some of those reviews

Major sports soccer flag football basketballhellip

out but eBay could have some better dealshellip just dealing with shady people sometimes can be
too much of a hassle The first link I posted had some bad reviews but some of those reviews
were from college volleyball players who most likely abuse the net 14 yr olds and younger will
not produce that sort of a beatinghellip so the 2nd option could be better due to it being cheaper

Hiking Could go to the Mines of Spain here in Dubuque
- The Mines of Spain is a very popular place to go to here in Dubuque Many of my friends go it is
a pretty incredible place and if there is time to make the trip during the week I would definitely
recommend it I submitted a link below if you are still unfamiliar with it You may not need any
outside expertise if you find a counselorcoach that is very familiar with the Mines of Spain but I
do believe you can access a guide through the website When I checked out the website it looks
like they may even do kids camps so if you are interested you could check that out otherwise I
