• Economic changes have always influenced and will keep affecting employment and occupational fields.

• Major changes in economic branches (such as in industry, transport, agriculture or telecommunications) and the global competition pressure determine economic agents to adapt their management practices and also to improve labour productivity.

• Romania occupies the first place in the world when it comes to labour shortages, as 73% of the local employees assert this fact.

• Romania is followed by Japan (63%) and Australia (52%).

• This problem is less noticeable but of the same importance in countries such as: India (12%), UK (12%), Ireland (14%), China (15%) and Holland (15%).

• Romania is confronting with a serious labour force crisis. Labour shortages reached almost 10.000 unoccupied job positions in various sectors.

• Some of the most affected sectors of employment are textile industry and construction business.

• The solutions that employers propose refer mostly to the return of Romanian immigrants, fact that could fill up the gap we have in our labour market.

• For our local labour market research we interviewed Ms. Adriana Sirghie, consultant at Iasi County Agency for Employment (AJOFM Iasi).

• This national agency is the most important national institution that implements politics and programs related to labour market, according to existing Romanian regulations.

• These were communicated by county employers who offered positions such as drivers, tourism agents, tourism agency managers or marketing specialists.

• As in any other employment branches, the work form - part-time or full-time - is established by the employer, according to the volume of activity. It depends on everyone's choice if it is suitable or not.

• Some employers request that people applying for a job in tourism should know foreign languages such as English, German or French.

• The diplomas attest specializations but the candidate must be capable of showing that he has competences earned at other working places or during practice sessions.

• Volunteering helps much on both professional and personal plans. By doing volunteering a future employee can become more motivated, organized, efficient and even test a new possible career.

• The employer decides if he requests recommendations but for the applicant gathering these documents might be quite difficult.

• IT skills are like in all other job an advantage. The reason for the increasing demands on IT knowledge of the employers is the constant evolution of the market based on technology.

• Finally, Ms. Adriana Sirghie mentioned that the required skills and competences are established by employers for every working place, but loyalty, responsibility and desire of success are always a must in any field of work.
