Participation Fee –The participation fee is $120 for cast and $95 for pit/crew and is approved by the school and the Parents Club. The fee includes the cost of the t-‐shirt, meals during hell week, printing, and the production party on Monday, November 23, 2015. For accounting purposes we are accepting checks only which should be made out to “NDPMA Parents Club.” All forms and payments can be mailed to the school in care of Lisa Macks or place them in the theatre basket which is located in the office. Attendance Rule – Just a reminder that all students involved with the musical must follow the school rules on homework and attendance. The school policy states that students must attend school for at least five academic hours (study hall does not count) to be able to attend rehearsals and performances.
Clothing & Furniture Donations -‐ We love donations of all types!! If your student has outgrown clothing, we are always in need of period clothing. Do you have cocktail dresses from the 1990s still in your closet? We love cocktail dresses from the 1990s! Ask some of your older family and friends if they need to clean out their attic. Our seamstresses are very creative and are able to make amazing costumes out of items such as curtains and tablecloths. We also take donations of furniture and household items too!
About Avondale High School Auditorium – This is the seventh year that we will be having our production at Avondale High School. The Avondale Theatre Company is run by their drama teacher/auditorium director, Edmond Guay. Members of his Tech Crew are working on their apprenticeships and upon graduation are ready to work professionally. We would like to thank Father Leon, Father Joe and the Parents Club for giving our actors the opportunity to act in this state of the art facility.
• There is no food or drink allowed in the dressing rooms or in the backstage area. Water and disposable cups will be provided during rehearsals and performances.
• Avondale High School is a peanut free school. We ask that you considerately honor this. • During tech rehearsals and shows, only approved students and volunteer parents will be allowed
backstage. • After rehearsals and shows, students will meet family and friends in the lobby or in the parking
lot. Load-‐In and Strike Requirement – Using Avondale also adds an element of work – all sets, costumes, costume boxes, props, furniture, and tools must be moved to Avondale. On the Sunday after the last performance everything must be out of Avondale and brought back to NDP. We require that each actor and crewmember help with either Load-‐In or Strike to help make this job so much easier for all involved.
Load-‐in – Sunday, November 15 Last Names A to M Strike – Sunday, November 22 Last Names N to Z
We will have assignments for the students and they will be required to check out when they are finished. Hell Week -‐ This is the week that the show actually becomes a show. Songs and dance moves are polished on stage and behind the scenes we handle the final costume adjustments and finish set painting. It’s a great week to come and offer your help so you can catch a glimpse of how the production comes together. Hell Week is November 9th – 12th this year. Cast Meals – Jennifer Fox is our Cast Meal Chair. Jennifer and her crew will be in charge of serving four meals during Hell Week, November 9th – 12th. We need parents to help with serving each of the meals. Please indicate if you are vegetarian on the Participation Form.
Tech Week – We will be at NDP on Monday, November 16th only; the rest of the week we will be at Avondale. No meals will be served this week; all students are responsible for their own dinner.
Students will need to get their own ride to Avondale on Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday, November 18. If your student is unable to find a ride please contact Jama Lintol or Lisa Macks.
Cast, Crew and Pit Shirts -‐ As always we will have a Cast, Crew & Pit shirt. The shirt is included in the participation fee.
Reserved Seating – Once again we are having reserved seating. Tickets for families of the Cast, Crew, and Pit will go on sale prior to the general public. This year we will be using Showtix4u.com, an online ticketing service. More information will be sent via email near middle of October.
Parent Involvement – The Notre Dame Prep Theatre Department is very proud of their talented Cast, Crew and Pit. Our quality productions are a product of hours upon hours of work. Parent involvement is essential and parents are required to give five hours of help. Consider helping with set building on a Saturday morning. Perhaps you have to drop off and pick up your actor, why not stay and help paint sets during rehearsals. How about helping with hair and makeup before the show? The excitement and energy of the actors and crew is amazing and it gives you a better appreciation of the final product. Parent involvement is a great way to connect with your actor and show your support.
Finally, and most importantly, we need healthy singers! -‐ The last two weeks of rehearsals and performances are exhausting! Please help keep our singers healthy. A few years ago quite a few of our leads passed a cold from one to the other during dress rehearsals and the performances. It was very disappointing and nerve wrecking for them. We recommend healthy eating and as much sleep as possible.
Vocal Health Tips
If you are serious about keeping your voice healthy, and we hope that you are, consider using these recommendations during Hell Week and the week of the show. For those of you who are considering a career in Voice, Musical Theatre or Drama these tips are especially important.
• Stay hydrated with plenty of water!!! We will have water available backstage during performances.
• Get plenty of sleep during rehearsals and performances – there will be plenty of time to stay up late after the show closes.
• No Dairy – Dairy thickens mucus. Visit a theatre or vocal performance department at a university and you will find that all students are dairy free. For recipes and more information on a dairy free diet go to www.godairyfree.org.
• No mint or menthol of any kind -‐ if you need cough drops take herbal ones such as Ricola. • Avoid salty and acidic foods. • Stop drinking caffeinated beverages one hour before warming up. • Whispering and shouting are terrible for your voice. • If your voice is tired or is scratchy then try vocal rest. • If you do get sick or your voice isn’t feeling its best then Throat Coat Tea by Traditional Medicinals
is the hot drink of choice for professional performers.
Below are general costume requirements. Costume ideas are still in the planning stages and an update when finalized.
Guys Costume Information
Please have your son wear a clean, plain white tee shirt under their costume for all dress rehearsals and performances. It gets very hot in the dressing room and under the lights and this helps keep their costumes a bit fresher. Guys are required to have the following, with no exceptions: White tee shirts – purchase at least four. Socks – white, brown, or black socks. The costumer will tell you which to purchase. Purchase at least four pair.
Girls Costume Information
Under Garments -‐ Please help your daughter to understand that these two rather unimportant items are actually very important. These are items that the girls can use year after year.
Body Tights -‐ The two dressing rooms at Avondale are by no means a private affair. We have about 30 girls in the Cast & Chorus who are continually in various states of dress and undress for the entire production. Our Costume Volunteers are constantly in the rooms to help find a missing item or help with a costume change, not to mention the men’s dressing room is in between the two women’s dressing rooms. We kindly ask that you purchase a body tight to help with modesty for everyone involved backstage. Nude Colored Bras – Please have your daughter wear a nude bra to each performance. Fun and colorful bras show through the costumes forcing the volunteers to come up with last minute ideas to try and hide them. Items you need to have in order to take the stage: Nude color body tight -‐ you may want to purchase two, so that one can be in the wash and one in her costume box. Nude dance tights -‐ Two or three pair (no suntan color). Dance tights last for years and we ask that you have an extra pair or two in case they get a run or go missing.

Girls Costume Information
Body Tight -‐
Please make sure you purchase the body suit type (not full leg and body type). Some styles have clear straps; this is a matter of personal preference.
Tights -‐ There are footed tights and convertible tights. Once again this is a personal preference. Here is a photo of the NUDE color you need. This pair is Capezio ® Adult Hold & Stretch Footed Tights Style No: 14. We suggest they get transition tights so they can be rolled up if too hot.

Shoes for Into the Woods
This show does not require the usual character shoe. If you are in the chorus or many of the leads, make sure to ask the costumer, which type of shoe she would like you in. The entire chorus will need to purchase a black or brown ankle boot. They can be bought at a local thrift store for less than $10. You might have a pair in your closet, or at DSW for around $30 Women’s Boots:
Men’s Boots:
Make-‐up and Hair
Make -‐Up – It is our goal to provide every cast member with training in as many areas of theater as we can. With that in mind we require both boys and girls to bring their own makeup kit. Expensive make up is not expected nor recommended; “drugstore” makeup is perfect. Also, you can check at the makeup counters of department stores as they often provide free samples of foundation. W
Theatrical Makeup Kit
Carrying case – an inexpensive plastic toolbox from a hardware store or a large caboodle will do. Make sure it doesn’t open when being carried. Foundation & Powder – This is a tricky one. Stage lights wash out color so you’ll need to get a shade that is two to three shades darker than the actor’s natural tone. If you have any questions, just bring in your color and we will help. Consider a sensitive formula if you are prone to breakouts. Blush -‐ Please note that light pinks do not show up in stage lighting. Guys – a copper to copper-‐brown color depending on skin tone. Lipstick – a “long lasting color” product is best for stage use. Guys – Brown to copper-‐brown colors Girls – Pinks and raspberry colors Eye Liner – Black for guys and girls. This can be the pencil type (don’t forget a sharpener) or many actors prefer a waterproof liquid. Mascara (girls only) – Black. May need waterproof because the heat from the lights can make mascara run or smudge. Cover Girl has a professional line. Eye Shadow – We may apply the eyeshadow darkly, depending on how it looks on stage. We will let the girls know the colors required as soon as possible. Fake Eyelashes – Required for lead girls. The lashes that are glued onto the eyelid are best. Look for starter kits. Eye Lash Curler –Expensive curlers work better than cheap ones. Other necessary supplies – disposable make up wipes, cosmetic sponges, cotton rounds, and q-‐tips Brushes – not required, but you may want to purchase a few inexpensive ones. Meijer has a good selection.
Make-‐up and Hair Hair – Performers must come to ALL Tech Rehearsals and Performances with their favorite hair product in their hair. This makes it easier for our hairdressers to work their magic. Please make sure you buy cheap hair spray. The kids just grab the closest bottle and spray. Guys – Please purchase: -‐ One bottle of hair spray -‐ Comb and/or brush Girls – Please purchase: -‐ Two bottles of hairspray -‐ Three packages of strong bobby pins that match hair color -‐ Comb, teasing comb, and brush -‐ Curling irons, hot rollers, flat irons, etc. for each of you to use for yourself It’s a zoo in the dressing room. There is so much hairspray being used that it creates fumes. Literally. Regarding hair, the rules are the same as going to a salon for an up-‐do; clean but not too clean, so that the hair is easier to work with. We need to pin in hair bands, ribbons, and headpieces.
