Children are the most visible victims of malnutrition

Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year

The estimated proportions of deaths in which

malnutrition is an underlying cause are

roughly similar for diarrhoea (61)

malaria (57) pneumonia (52) and measles (45)

(Black 2003 Bryce 2005)

Malnutrition magnifies the effect of disease

By causing poor health low levels of energy and even mental impairment hunger can lead to even greater poverty by reducing peoples ability to work

and learn

We are a non-profit organisation that aims to provide nutrition to school children in order to promote concentration and learning

Based on the West Rand (Jhb SA) we help to feed nearly

14 000 children on a daily basis in areas like

Kagiso Dobsonville Muldersdrift Thsepisong West Slovoville

There are three pillars to our feeding programme

Cregraveches

CregravechesWe support 7 informal cregraveches by providing healthy balanced nutrition for pre-schoolers

Cregraveches

We channel whatever else we are supplied with to these cregraveches(playground equipment clothes toys workdays for volunteers)

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)We currently support 92 households with orphans andor vulnerable children by providing food for the whole family

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)

School teachers refer children in the most desperate circumstances to this programme

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)

Our volunteers visit the children once a month when they deliver the food Real relationships take shape over time

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)

This has resulted in many other forms of support like hospital visits and attending graduations

If we want to have a different kind of adult we need to provide our children with a different kind of childhood
