Universal Peace Federation The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace centered on universal spiritual and moral values. PeacePeace is not simply the absence of war or a term that applies only to the relationships
among nations. Peace is an essential quality that should characterize all relationships.
PEACE:Root Causes of Conflict
Today the world faces many conflicts: political, religious, economic and cultural. Too many families struggle with divorce, abandonment, abuse, poverty and neglect. What is the root of all these conflicts?

PEACE:Conflict Prevention
Geopolitics, natural resources, environmental change, the global arms trade, and other factors have fueled and prolonged conflict as well as mutual mistrust and antipathy. Such prolonged conflict poses a fundamental challenge to world stability: how can such conflicts be transformed by longer-term peacebuilding efforts?

PEACE:Peacebuilding
Assessments of conflicts and social ills from spiritual or religious perspectives have not been included in the UN’s studies. UPF proposes to combine statesmanship and good governance with the wisdom of the world’s faith traditions and principles of spiritual practice.

PEACEWhen I say that Kosovo has earned a special place in world history, I refer to the path my people have taken in order to achieve peace, freedom, and democracy. Kosovo was a unit in the former Yugoslavia, a country that fell apart completely under the rule of a nationalist regime in a series of bloody wars. I am proud to have been at the forefront of people who chose human rights, dedication to peace, tolerance, and economic development -- people who cherished entrepreneurship and an open society as a way to move forward and develop our war-torn society.

SecurityUPF recognizes the need for careful and measurable use of
enforcement such as political, military, and civil power to sustain lasting peace. UPF has been a leading exponent of “track two”
diplomacy, with particular emphasis on the role and responsibility of religious and spiritual leaders to transcend historical self-
interest and pursue the ideal of “One Family Under God.”

SECURITY:Intra-state Conflicts
Most conflicts today occur within rather than between states, with people from different ethnic groups, religions, or political allegiances fighting each other. UPF invites leaders of opposing sides for dialogue in the presence of a neutral party. Grass-roots activities such as friendly football matches and service projects help build understanding.

SECURITY:Freedom and Democracy
While welcome winds of democracy have been blowing across the globe, freedom should be accompanied by transparency and protective security.

SECURITYOnly when free people can freely discuss across political borders can we ever help to solve the problems that exist around the world. Only when nations are prosperous can we begin to use our knowledge and our talents to help the less fortunate. And only when free nations can continue to build strong families with a God-centered value system can we hope to become a better world.

DEVELOPMENTDevelopment needs to be seen in relationship to peacebuilding and a
broadened vision of human security that complements social, political, and economic components. Furthermore, virtues such as
honesty, generosity, courage, fortitude and empathy are core strengths or capacities that are needed in order for a social system to function well and result in political, social and economic development.

Regarding the environment as a gift from a divine source, people of faith see themselves as stewards of a legacy of compassion and unselfishness to pass on to generations yet to come, countering prevailing values of self-centeredness and over-indulgence.

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT:Achieving the MDGs
A comprehensive understanding of development includes social, political, and economic components. Civil society organizations, NGOs, private sector philanthropists, voluntary associations, and faith-based organizations can be valuable partners with governments and inter-governmental organizations in advancing the Millennium Development Goals.

DEVELOPMENTWe may wear different clothes, have different skin color, and speak different languages, but fundamentally we are all the same human beings. That is what allows us to understand each other and feel close to each other. Because we all live on this little planet, we must live in peace and harmony with each other and with nature itself. Consequently, we must help each other and share the benefits.
