State government and Central Government have different schemes

to help farmers for promoting horticulture nurseries.

1. Creation and development of infrastructure facilities in nursery

for the quality production and supply of plants.

2. Creation and development of infrastructure facilities for

promoting exportable production of plants in Nurseries.

State Government Schemes

Horticulture development support schemes of State Government are

implemented through State Department of Agriculture.

• Horticulture Plantation Scheme: In this scheme is in operation

from 1990, in which farmers are assisted by providing authentic

planting material and improved varieties of fruit crops at affordable

cost, produced on government and state farm nurseries.

• Establishment of Private Nursery : Government extend financial

supports for private owners, entrepreneurs and registered cooperative

societies up to Rs.20,000 with target of 8000 grafted plants.

• Area Extension Scheme: under this scheme, clonal planting

material is supplied for extension of plantation for crops like

cashew, Mango etc.

• Integrated Spices Development scheme: Under this scheme

financial support is provided for cultivation of spices like black

pepper, clove, ginger and turmeric crops.

• Mini Kit Vegetable scheme: Under this scheme, inputs like

seed and fertilizers for cultivation of improved and hybrid

vegetable vegetables are provided to farmers.

State government provides financial and technical assistance to

horticultural nurseries for using new and sustainable technologies

like:

•Mulching of mother plants to improve quantity and quality of planting

materials.

•Multiplication and sale of planting materials for plantation of

medicinal and aromatic plants.

•Assistance for rejuvenation of old, poorly managed and low yielding

orchards .

•Installation of micro-irrigation system, poly houses and shade net

houses in horticulture nurseries.

Support under National Horticulture Mission

• Government of India established National Horticulture Mission

to promote production and distribution of good quality seeds

and planting material in horticulture development.

• Most of the States have a network of central or state assisted

nurseries for producing planting material for new lands

coming under horticulture in public and private sector

nurseries

Infrastructure Development Assistance

Under National Horticulture Mission financial and technical

assistance is provided for basic infrastructure in horticulture

nurseries.

•Fencing, pump house, storage tank and soil sterilization system.

•Poly house and shade net houses to protect Mother plants and

nursery plants in adverse weather and establishing insect proof

netting, fogging and sprinkler systems.

•Hardening nurseries in insect proof net house with light screening

properties and sprinkler irrigation system.
