INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY
DEFINITION
3
Process of recording pictures by means of capturing light on a light-sensitive medium, such as a film or electronic sensor during a timed exposure. The process is done through mechanical, chemical or digital devices known as cameras. The product of photography has been called a photograph, commonly shortened to photo.
IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT
• The word "photography" comes from French word photographie which is based on the Greek φώς (phos) "light" + γραφή (graphê) "stylus", "paintbrush" or "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "Drawing With Light.“
• LIGHT – Raw Material of SIGHT

HOW IS PHOTO / LIGHT CAPTURED ON CAMERA?

FOCUS
6
Just like a camera, our eyes also need to focus. Ever tried this exercise?inside our eyes This process is performed by the lens tissues. In cameras this is done by Optical Lenses.
TIME OF EXPOSURE
7
Most of us have this belief that our eyes see continuous motion. NO! This is Untrue. Eyes capture only a frame at a time just like a photograph. But when we see successive frames, we perceive motion.
Cameras capture light by fast action of opening and closing of a shutter.
PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESS
• Film Photographic Process can be broadly divided into 3 major steps:• Ray optics and How light forms images• Film Processing• Print Processing

EARLIER CAMERA TYPES

CURRENTLY USED CAMERAS

DIGITAL CAMERAS
• The digital camera perhaps the most remarkable instances of shift from Analog to Digital era. Conventional cameras depended entirely on chemical & mechanical processes. On other hand, digital cameras work on the mechanism of recording images electronically.

DIGITAL CAMERAS
• In Digital photography, lens flashes the image on a sensor instead of a Film. This sensor (CCD) which is made of semi-conductor material captures image as a long string of 1s & 0s that represent all tiny colored dots / pixels.
• We’ll be discussing this in detail in forthcoming sessions
