Commitment: Our Roots are in Education …

In 1995, a group of graduate students at the University of British Columbia, led by a faculty member in Computer Science, began creating e-Learning software specifically for UBC eventually growing into WebCT.

In 1997 a group of teaching assistants and students at Cornell University were working to develop e-Learning software for the institution.

Simultaneously, consultants from the KPMG Higher Education Consulting practice were working with the IMS project to design e-Learning standards. In 1997, Blackboard was founded.

In 2006, Blackboard merged with fellow e-Learning pioneer WebCT. Now, as a single company, we have the client base, resources and expertise to uniquely meet the rapidly evolving needs of educators around the world.
