    THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

    INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

    Conditions of Award

    1. Introduction

    1.1 There shall be a number of scholarships available each year for international full fee payingstudents known as the ANU International Undergraduate Scholarships.

    1.2 The Scholarships are highly competitive awards and shall be offered to successful applicants whohave achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling before applying for tertiary

    studies for the first time.

    2. Value

    2.1 The Scholarship shall cover 100% of the international student tuition fee cost each year, for theminimum standard full-time duration of the scholars chosen undergraduate program, including anHonours Year.

    2.2 The Scholarship is available to scholars undertaking a combined program, inclusive of an HonoursYear in one of the programs.

    2.3 The Scholarship will also cover 100% of the Overseas Student Health Cover cost each year, forthe minimum standard full-time duration of the scholars chosen undergraduate program.

    2.4 Scholars are responsible for the costs of books, study materials, accommodation, living expense,fares to and from Australia, and all other costs associated with study.

    3. Eligibility

    3.1 The Scholarship shall be available for an applicant who:

    (a) is defined as an overseas student under the terms of the Education Services for OverseasStudents Act 2000;

    (b) has not commenced any further education after completing their secondary studies, unlessrequired by the University for the purposes of admission;

    (c) is applying for admission into tertiary study for the first time, unless required by the Universityfor the purposes of admission;

    (d) has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling, demonstrated by excellentresults in their secondary studies qualification; and

    (e) is successful or will be successful in receiving an offer of admission into an undergraduateprogram at the University.

    3.2 Dependents of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible.

    4. Application

    4.1 Applicants must submit an application on the prescribed online form by the closing date set eachyear by the Fees and Scholarships Office.

    4.2 Applicants who have completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent recognised) qualification inAustralia, and have submitted an application for admission to the University via the UniversitiesAdmissions Centre ACT and NSW (UAC), shall be automatically considered for thesescholarships.

    5. Selection

    5.1 The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Chair of the University Awards Committee on therecommendation of the University Registrar, Division of Registrar and Student Services.

    5.2 The Scholarship shall be awarded based primarily on academic merit, with consideration given to

    the applicants country of citizenship, choice of program and any other factors which the Registrarconsiders to be appropriate.

    5.3 If, in the opinion of the Chair of the University Awards Committee, acting on the advice of theUniversity Registrar, there is no applicant who sufficiently meets the eligibility criteria, theScholarship shall not be awarded.

    6. Concurrent holding of scholarships

    6.1 A scholar must submit a written request to ask permission from the Chair of the University AwardsCommittee to hold another scholarship/award concurrently with the ANU InternationalUndergraduate Scholarship.

    7. Deferment

    7.1 A successful applicant must submit a written request to ask permission from the UniversityRegistrar to defer the commencement of the scholarship for up to one semester.

    8. Commencement

    8.1 The scholarship commencement date shall be outlined in the formal scholarship letter of offer.

    9. Level of Performance

    9.1 Scholars are responsible for their academic achievement which is expected to be at theappropriate level which means a Distinction average in each semester (with the average being

    across all courses taken in that particular semester).

    9.2 Scholars that do not achieve this requirement will be subject to the policies and proceduresoutlined in the Academic Progress for holders of Undergraduate Scholarships Policy document,available on the Universitys Policies Website.

    10.

    10.1 The Scholarship will be awarded for the minimum full-time duration of any undergraduate programor combined program (including an Honours Year) registered by the University on theCommonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), or assubsequently approved by the Chair of the University Awards Committee.

    11. Enrolment

    11.1 Scholars must enrol and remain enrolled on a full-time load during the tenure of the scholarship.

    11.2 Scholars who wish to transfer to another program must submit a written request for considerationby the Chair of the University Awards Committee. If the request is approved, the Scholarship maynot be extended beyond the original programs minimum duration.

    11.3 Scholars may submit a written request to the Chair of the University Awards Committee to requestpermission to suspend the Scholarship for up to a maximum total period of one year. Scholarsmust seek approval to take academic program leave from the relevant Dean of the ANU College.

    12. Termination

    12.1 The scholarship shall terminate at the conclusion of the minimum duration of the program for whichit was awarded or on the date on which the scholar ceases to attend the University other than forapproved absences, whichever is the earlier.

    12.2 The University may terminate the scholarship before this time if the scholar does not fulfil his or herobligations or if, in the opinion of the Chair of the University Awards Committee, acting on the

    advice of the University Registrar, satisfactory academic progress is not being made by thescholar.

    13. Taxation

    13.1 Scholars are responsible for seeking taxation advice regarding their own individual circumstances.

    14. Publicity

    14.1 It is anticipated that ANU International Undergraduate Scholarship holders may be requested toparticipate in publicity of the scholarship from time to time. Scholars may be contacted for aninterview and photograph. The University may also publicise the scholarships by publishing thenames of the scholars. Arrangements for such publicity will be made through the Communicationsand External Liaison Office of the University.

    15. Disclaimer

    15.1 The award of a scholarship does not carry any commitment by the University for futureemployment.
