JUNE 12, 2016 190th Anniversary Celebration - Kirkin' o' the Tartans

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS THE GATHERING Bagpipe, drums PROCESSIONAL Highland Cathedral Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb KIRKING OF THE TARTAN AND FLAGS

One: Raise your Tartans! (Banner Bearers lift high their tartans.) Many: We raise them up to the Lord! One: Thank you, O God, for your Word which has ordained a rich heritage of faith

and sacrifice from our ancestors, from Adam to Noah, from Noah to Abraham, from Abraham to David, so onward to the incarnation of Jesus Christ, to the establishment of his church: our brothers and sisters in Christ everywhere. Never let us forget that a

heritage of faith is a responsibility to be shared. Many: Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.

One: Thank you, O God, for the blessing of family; the warmth, comfort, and security of family love. Never let us forget that our family love is a gift to be shared, that the stranger may be as welcome as a sibling. Many: Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.

One: We praise you, O God, for those who have lived and died in Christ that we might have the freedom to dwell in a community of faith. Never let us forget that the days of

sacrifice are not yet over, that we too, have lives to live in faith. Many: Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.

One: On behalf of all clans, families, and nations, we stand before God in gratitude for our heritage and pray God’s blessing on God’s servant people in all lands. Many: We proclaim that we are all united in the covenant of Jesus Christ, for there is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Creator of us all. Let

us worship God.

One: Post Tartans. (Banners are lowered and posted) CALL TO WORSHIP Blessed Are They with Simple Hearts James R. Day CALL OFF THE CLANS PSALM OF PRAISE Sing to God, with Joy and Gladness John L. Bell GENESIS 1:27-31 *HYMN NO. 276 Great is Thy Faithfulness CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) From The Book of Common Order of the Church of Scotland

Merciful God, we humble ourselves in Thy presence, confessing our unworthiness and sinfulness in Thy sight. We have broken Thy holy law. We have not sought

first Thy kingdom and righteousness. We have been anxious and troubled about many things, and have neglected the things that belong to our peace. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, or done to others as we would hope they

would do to us. Most gracious God, our heavenly Father, who hast given Thy Son, Jesus Christ, to save Thy people from their sins; forgive us, we beseech Thee;

cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and renew a right spirit within us; through the grace of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. God of heaven and earth, we give you thanks for sending us Jesus Christ in your name. Even though we profess to

follow him, we confess that in times of trial we too often deny him. Forgive us and heal us, we pray. Help us to put our faith not in the princes of this world, but

only in the Prince of Peace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. *We invite you to stand, as you are able.

GENESIS 17:1-8 ANTHEM Scottish Hymn of Praise Malcolm Crawford DEUTERONOMY 6:4-9 HYMN NO. 289 God of Every Nation 2 SAMUEL 7: 8-17 AFFIRMATION OF FAITH From the Scots Confession

As we believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, so we firmly believe that from the beginning there has been, now is, and to the end of the world shall be, one Kirk,

that is to say, one company and multitude of [people] chosen by God, who rightly worship and embrace him by true faith in Christ Jesus, who is the only

Head of the Kirk, even as it is the body and spouse of Christ Jesus. This Kirk is catholic, that is, universal,

because it contains the chosen of all ages, of all realms, nations, and tongues, be they of the Jews or be they of the Gentiles,

who have communion and society with God the Father, and with his Son, Christ Jesus, through the sanctification of his Holy Spirit. It is therefore called the communion, not of profane persons, but of saints,

who, as citizens of the heavenly Jerusalem, have the fruit of inestimable benefits, one God, one Lord Jesus, one faith, and one baptism. MATTHEW 26: 26-29 HYMN NO. 526 (verses 1-4) For All the Saints REVELATION 21: 3-5
