Independent Power (NZ) Ltd was set up in 1982. It is a locally owned and operated company with over 32 years of experience in the industry fulfilling a growing need for a renewable energy products in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Remote areas have always been the heart of our business, and over time we have built up an extensive range of products that have proven to be rugged and reliable. We are also now becoming more and more involved in grid-connected solar power systems, and continue to expand our product range to suit. The SureSine is a pure sinewave inverter for off-grid solar applications. management capabilities designed for the most extreme environmental conditions.

The FLEXmax Extreme is engineered around the concept that the strongest chain is one with no weak link. In the case of charge controller design, the weak link is typically the cooling fan. Removing the fan removes the greatest

obstacle to long service life and high reliability, as fan problems severely limit power output.

MATE3 The MATE3 advanced systems display and controller offers more comprehensive programming and detail from your OutBack Power

system than the previous MATE models.

The expandable SD card memory allows you to increase data logging capacity as well as upgrade units in the field. The MATE3 is an internet enabled device. Simply connecting to the internet will allow remote system monitoring via an easy-to-use web interface.

MATE B and MATE2

The MATE B and MATE2 system display and controllers are complete management tools for your OutBack Power system.

Through the use of a single MATE you can remotely manage and monitor multiple inverter/chargers, charge controllers and

monitoring devices.

A built-in clock and calendar function enables timer-based programming of inverter and charger operation. This permits you to

set the system to work with time-of-day power rates or to limit a generator’s run time to a specific time period of the day or week. All of your settings are stored in permanent memory to eliminate

the need to reprogram in the event of a system shutdown or battery replacement.

The HUB system communications managers are the backbone of your networked Outback Power conversion system.

The optional AXS card for the Outback Flexmax Extreme allows Ethernet access to the charge controller using the Modbus protocol. The AXS card is intended for use instead of a system display (Mate, Mate2 or Mate3). The charge controller is not designed to work with both the AXS card and a display. The AXS card can be used for remote monitoring and upgrading over a network. The AXS card is identical in function to the AXS Port SunSpec Modbus Interface but they are not interchangeable inside the charge controller.

Users can securely access an OutBack power system anywhere in the world via an Ethernet connection using Modbus Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and communicate directly to a single device, or to multiple devices using a HUB4 or HUB10.3 communications management device.

The CX-SCP eliminates the need for separate control panels for each device and gives a single point of

control to set up and monitor the entire Conext inverter charger system, including Conext MPPT Solar Charge

Controllers.

Featuring a graphical backlit liquid crystal display, the CX-SCP selectively displays configuration, status and diagnostic information for all devices connected to the

XanbusTM network.

The CX-AGS can automatically start or stop a generator in response to changing power requirements.

An excellent addition to an off-grid or backup power system, the AGS seamlessly connects to the network and shares status information with all other devices on

the network. It can monitor a set of system user-programmable parameters such as battery voltage,

state of charge or grid power.

The CX-BM indicates hours of battery based runtime

and determines battery bank state of charge. Detecting

battery string imbalance is determined using innovative

mid-point sensing technology providing time to address

the issue before performance is significantly impacted.

The CX-BM features built-in data logging and a local

display to selectively show the voltage, current, con-

sumed amp-hours, remaining capacity and remaining

EnergyCell batteries are designed and built to exceed the requirements of nearly any power storage need. The RE models are engineered for demanding off-grid, micro-grid and offset/support environments with weak or no grid present, where frequent cycling would quickly take its toll on lesser batteries. BATTERY CHARGERS

The ePOWER Battery Charger is a fully automatic, “set and forget” charger. It is designed to quickly and accurately recharge your batteries using algorithms that help maximize service life. Multistage smart charging technology ena-bles the charger to be connected to your battery banks permanently. As dictated by battery manufacturer’s recommendations, batteries require a multistage charge sequence for perfect, fast and accurate charging. The ePOWER multistage smart chargers deliver four primary charge stages:- Stage 1 - Bulk or Boost Charge: The battery is charged at full rated output current of the charger until the battery reaches its final charging voltage, known as its absorption voltage. In this step, around 80% of the battery capacity is recovered as fast as possible. Stage 2 - Absorption Charge: With the charger voltage held steady, the remaining 20% is replaced allowing the current to drop as the battery approaches its full charge. Stage 3 - Float: Finally in the float stage, the charger voltage is lowered and held at a constant and safe predetermined level. This prevents the battery from being overcharged while supporting any additional loads connected to the battery, such as DC lighting and refrigerators. This stage allows for the charger to be used as a DC power supply. Stage 4 - Maintenance: This stage is a regular timed “return to bulk” stage. After 7 days of constant operation in “float” the ePOWER Battery Charger will switch the charger from float to bulk to agitate the batteries electrolyte helping to provide an extended service life.

ePOWER BATTERY CHARGERS

It’s All About Lithium The recent advances in high capacity Lithium battery technology have seen the need to develop a battery charger suited to their needs. With most traditional ‘smart’ chargers their suitability to Lithium batteries is limited. Lithium batteries require a constant current / constant voltage charge algorithm and are unique in that almost every amp-hour of charge delivered by the charger is accepted as one amp hour into the battery, hence the need to deliver a constant current as long as possible. The ePOWER charger can be programmed for Lithium batteries. This setting delivers the full rated output of the charger constantly with the charger switching to power supply mode once the voltage peak is met indicating a full battery bank. LITHIUM BATTERIES MUST HAVE THEIR OWN BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BMS).

BATTERY MONITORS

BOGART ENGINEERING offers several models of Battery Monitor which are designed to help you maintain batteries which are periodically charged and discharged such as in solar or wind powered homes, motorhomes or boats. The TriMetric will be the choice for most battery systems in homes, motorhomes and boats where the owner does not need the greater data logging and analysis capability that the PentaMetric has. The PentaMetric may be appropriate for larger systems or for systems owned by technical users who are interested in more system detail. Both monitors show you the following: • Flow of energy in or out of the batteries (in amps or watts) so you can check your charging sources or elec-

trical loads. • Battery volts • Battery state of charge (i.e., how much energy is left in the batteries) • How recently since you fully charged the batteries (which is useful because lead acid batteries (flooded/

GEL/AGM) should not go too long between being fully charged. The TriMetric battery monitor is available in several models, the TM2020 (12/24 volt), the TM2025-RV and the TM2030-RV. The TM2020 is designed for flush mounting, whereas the TM2025-RV and TM2030-RV have their own enclosures , which allows for surface mounting.

The TM2030-A and TM2030-RV operate the same. The difference between the "A" and "RV" version is only the size and lable colour. The TM2030-RV includes the enclosure shown. The TM2030-A mounts in a double gang electrical box (not included). Measures battery % full, based on amp hour measure-ments for accurate information on how much battery energy is left. This method is more accurate than monitors that use only voltage to determine how full your batteries are, especially when they are between 30-90% full. Battery system size: 10-10,000 amp hours. Measures battery charging or discharging amps/watts to check that chargers are still charging at correct amounts and to also check to see how much your loads are draw-ing, and to discover phantom 24 hour loads that you may not know about. Measures battery volts (9.0 to 75) to verify that chargers are charging to the correct voltage for your batteries. Audible low battery alarm, based on volts and % full. May be silenced. Measures days since charged. Shows how many days have elapsed since batteries were last fully charged. Batteries can lose the ability to hold charge if this period is too long. Shows days since equalised. A reminder to equalise at appropriate time if you do manual equalisations. Displays replaced percentage of charge, compared to most recent discharge. Many battery company experts are now recommending that when recharging, 110-120% of recently withdrawn energy should be replaced for wet cell Lead acid batteries to prevent loss of capacity, and 104-108% for AGM types. This new function makes it easy to know if they have been sufficiently charged. Good lightning protection. Easy to read display, easy to darken. Defaults to "Level 1" for most users to keep operation simple. Choose Level 2 or 3 for more technical users.
