Located alongside the New Ross docks, the Dunbrody Famine Ship is a full scale

replica of the original ship built in 1845 which transported emigrants to North

America.

SHIP

Has it been restored

The Dunbrody was a 19th Century three-masted

sailing ship that brought many emigrants from Ireland to North America during and

after the Great Famine. An exact replica of this 176ft long 19th century ship was

constructed and completed in 2001. Today she rests at the New Ross quay beside a

fascinating state-of-the -art visitor centre which is a key focus for tourism in the area

The ship is completely restored and well prepared for

tourist attraction.

It is exact replica of 19th century ship

Beside ship is tourist information centere with café and souvenir shop

What is historical/ heritage/ cultural significance site?

The Dunbrody Ship has historical purpose. Tour

present not much about history of ship, but history of

Great Famine and tragedy of people living that time.

Great idea during the tour is actors show which shows

the difference between rich and poor passages.

Building is well prepared for impaired/wheelchair

user, but ship has limited access. Many parts of ship

has just small entrance. That’s because ship was designeg in 19th century.

Bookshop is just beside reception.

and movie presentation before tour.

Bookshop has many books with history emigration, ship and Great Famine. Books

cost between 10 – 20 €

Story was presented with great take care about details

from life of emigrant, support by multimedia

presentation and actors show.

There wasn’t any sound or lighting presentation

Tour guide had good knowledge about ship and

presented it in very interesting way

Audio-visual display (seating capacity, slides, DVD)

The movie is presented just before entrance on ship

board. It’s no seats in that room, but movie is very

short and it is not a problem
