  • IRT670USER’S MANUAL

High Performance 30:1, Wide-rangeInfrared Thermometer with Memory

INTRODUCTION:Thank you for purchasing this Infrared Thermometer. This is a non-contact infrared temperature measuring instrument. Tomeasure a temperature, point the unit at the desired object, pull the measuring trigger and hold. Make sure the target area islarger than the unit’s spot size. For larger target objects, you must be within the target distance.

This instrument conforms to the following standards:EN61326: Electrical equipment for measurement, control and

laboratory use.IEC61000-4-2: Electrostatic discharge immunity test.IEC61000-4-3: Radiated, radio-frequency, Electromagnetic

field immunity test.IEC61000-4-8: Power frequency magnetic field immunity

test.Tests were conducted using a frequency range of 80-1000MHz with the instrument in three orientations. The average error for the three orientations is ±1.0 °F(±0.5 °C) at 3V/m throughout the spectrum. However, between 781-1000MHz at 3V/m, the instrument may notmeet its stated accuracy.

The device may not be disposed in the trash. Itpromotes the re-use recycling and other forms of

recovery of used materials and components, and toimprove the environmental performance of all operators(manufacturers, traders, treatment facilities) involved in thelife cycle of products. Dispose of the product appropriatelyin accordance with relevant regulations.

LCD AND CONTROL PANEL: OPERATION FUNCTIONS:To operate the advanced functions of the unit, press theMODE button to change the functions. The sequentialoperations and the corresponding explanations are shownin the following chart.

    OPERATION MODE

    IRT670 Manual-FINAL3-050608:Layout 1 5/6/08 9:40 AM Page 4

  • OPERATION REMARKS:• Memory: Activate the record function by pushing the “M”button. To delete all the records, press the up or downbutton to DATA0 and then press the “M” button.

    • LOCK: Push the button to continuously measure anddisplay the temperature without pulling the measuringtrigger.

    • The above functions can always be activated by followingany of the steps of the Operations Mode in the flow chart.

    • In SCAN mode, the LCD display both the currenttemperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The unit will HOLDthe last reading for 30 seconds after the trigger isreleased. When the battery is low, the battery icon willdisplay, but the unit will continue to function.

    • While DATA# flashes on the left bottom, the value on theMain Temperature Display can be recorded in “#” log.Simply press the “M” button.

°F/°C AND BATTERY CHANGE:The unit is powered by“9V” battery and displaystemperature in either °F/°C.The user has to replace thebattery when the batteryvoltage drops below thevoltage for reliableoperation and at the sametime the low batterysymbol will appear. Tochange the “9V” battery, pull and open the unit’shandle by using the finger.Change the “9V” batterywith a new one and pushthe battery cover back inplace.

TECHNIQUES OF INFRARED THERMOMETER:FIELD OF VIEW (FOV) RATIO =DISTANCE TO DIAMETER (DS) RATIOThe field of view is the angle of vision at which theinstrument operates and it is determined by the optics of theunit. The FOV is the ratio of the distance from the target tothe target diameter. The smaller the target, the closer youshould be to it. When the target diameter is small, it isimportant to bring the thermometer closer to the target toinsure that only the target is measured, excluding thesurroundings.

EMISSIVITY:Emissivity is the ability of an object to omit or absorb energy.Perfect emitters have an emissivity of 1, emitting 100% ofincident energy. An object with an emissivity of 0.8 will absorb 80% andreflect 20% of the incident energy. Emissivity is defined asthe ratio of the energy radiated by an object at a giventemperature to the energy emitted by a perfect radiator atthe same temperature. All values of emissivity fall between0.0 and 1.0.Non-contact temperature sensors measure IR energy emittedby the target, have fast response, and are commonly used tomeasure moving and intermittent targets, targets in avacuum, and targets that inaccessible due to hostileenvironments, geometry limitations, or safety hazard. The cost is relatively higher, although in some cases it iscomparable to contact devises.

  • MAINTENANCE:Cleaning the lens: Blow off loose particles using cleancompressed air. Gently brush remaining debris away with acamel’s hair brush. Carefully wipe the surface with a moistcotton swab. The swab may be moistened with water.

NOTE:DO NOT use solvents to clean the lens.CLEANING THE HOUSING: Use soap and water on a damp

    sponge or soft cloth.
