FOREWORD

This Indian Standard ( Part 1 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Forestry and Plantation Crops Machinery Sectional Committee had been approved by the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

Removai of stalks by pulling by hand is very difficult and time consuming. stalk pullers have been developed and are being used.

For this purpose Considering the use of stalk puller for

pulling out the stalks of lantena species in the forest, a need was felt to prepare this standard for helping in quality production of this tool.

The Part 2 of this standard which is under preparation would specify the requirements for the stalk puller, heavy duty which are used for pulling out the stalks of species other than lantena species in the forest.

In the preparation of this standard assistance has been derived from the Forest Operations Division, Forest Research Institute ( ICFRE ), Dehra Dun.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 I 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised)‘. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
