Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR BALANCING BENCH

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 15 July 1969, after the draft finalized by the Sports Goods Sectional Committee had been approved by the Consumer Products Division Council.

0.2 Balancing bench is used by gymnasts for ‘ balance ’ practice. The performance of the gymnast being dependent to a large extent on the equipment, that is made available, the formulation of a standard is considered very essential.

0.3 This standard is one of a series of Indian Standards on sports goods, prepared on the recommendations of the Sports Goods Export Promotion Council, New Delhi. Other standards published so far in the series are given at page 6.

0.4 The Gymnastics and Sports Equipment Technical Committee ( ISO/TC 83 ) of the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ) with the active help and collaboration of the International Gym- nastic Federation ( IGF ) is concerning itself with standardization of this equipment. This standard is based on the IS0 proposal on the subject.

0.5 Clause 6.1 calls for an agreement between the purchaser and the supplier or permits the purchaser to use his option for selection to suit his requirements.

0.6 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, express- ing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard lays down the requirements of balancing benches which are essential equipment in all gymnasia.

*Rules for rounding off numerical values ( r&cd ).

5.1 The shape of the balancing bench is given in Fig. 1 and it shall con- form to the principal dimensions given therein.

4. MANUFACTURE

4.1 Only the shape and dimensions required to assure the performance of the equipment have been given in this standard. The shapes and dimen- sions which are not specified are left to the discretion of the manufacturer. 4.2 The walking surface shall be even and have a matt finish. 4.5 The balancing bench shall not vibrate in its supports during use.

5. MARKING

NOTE -The use of the IS1 Certification Mark is governed by the provisions of the Indian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act, and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. Presence of this mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard, under a well-defined system of inspection, testing and quality control during production. This system, which is devised and supervised by IS1 and operated by the producer, has the further safeguard that the products as actually marketed are continuously checked by IS1 for conformity to the standard. Details of conditions, under which a licence for the use of the IS1 Certification Mark may be granted to manufacturers or processors, may be obtained from the Indian Standards Institution.
