Welcome from the ISB Director

Dear ISB Parents, Alumni,Faculty and Staff, Friends,Partners and Supporters,

This is already our fifth annual, dinner, dance and auction, and our first under our new name of ISB Night! Since webegan in 2007, this annual event has raised well over€200,000 and enabled us to improve our campus and ourprogramme in ways that would not otherwise have beenpossible……..and it has been great fun along the way.

Speaking of fun, I’ve had more than ever this year, as it hasbeen my personal pleasure to work directly with the teamof dedicated volunteers that make this event such a resounding success. They have been so successful this yearthat we had the experience of selling out all seats shortlyafter opening ticket sales. My personal appreciation toTina Montana, Laura Hoffman, Brigid Reale, Anna Maria Croneborg, Pia Ramén, Sigrun Kreienbaum,Sabine Schwarz, ably supported by Michelle Brown, David Willows, Carine Morin and Jessica Franken, for allthe hard work and all the laughs!!

Thanks also this year to all the faculty and staff, and, ofcourse, the students, who have been working on the Service Learning Projects we are supporting, to my ownmanagement team, and our Trustees, each of whom hasadded their whole-hearted support and to all of our manydonors and sponsors, who have supported us in recordnumbers and with huge generosity.

Have a wonderful ISB Night! and many, many thanks toyou all for your generous, active support of ISB and its vision for developing active, skilled International Citizens.

With warm regards,

Kevin BartlettISB Director

4 ISB Night!

Our mission goals are to develop:

International Citizens – students with a strongsense of empathy, a respect for diverse perspectives and a growing self-knowledge.

Independent Learners - students who havedeveloped such a deep understanding of theirclassroom learning that they can apply it successfully in challenging real-world contexts.

These qualities are not developed in the classroomalone. We believe that they are the result of personalexperience, acquired through active Service LearningProjects. Our students plan and execute their projects, just as adults do in the world of work: identifying goals, planning actions, marshalling resources, allocatingaccountabilities, analyzing results. They do so in waysthat engage them with realities that are not found within the “ISB bubble”...and we’re not talking abouttennis! This exposure helps them see the world thatothers occupy, and to develop their own sense ofempathy, compassion and commitment. Service Learningis ‘mission-critical’ to us, so our goal is that every ISB student, every year, will have a real Service Learningexperience. Some will be far afield, most will be local.

SERVICE LEARNING @ ISB:

What is Service Learning?

Service Learning is a research-based learning method through which skillsand knowledge acquired in the classroom are applied through plannedstrategic action that addresses anauthentic community need. ThroughService Learning our students: undertake newchallenges, plan and initiate activities, workcollaboratively with others, show perseveranceand commitment, engage with issues of global importance, consider the ethical implications of their actions, develop newskills, increase their awareness of strengths and areas for growth.

“I like composting. It's great howthe worms can turn rubbish into

something that helps flowers and trees grow.”

Alfred D'hanis-Brown, 2nd Grade(Composting)

“After working for the past three years with Cap48, I really developed myself as a person and as aleader … This was a valuable lesson for me notonly because it taught me more leadership skillsbut also to work with disabled people and learn

from them.”

Elie Lamazerolles, 12th grade (Cap 48)

OUR MISSION IN MOTIONAll funds raised through ISB Night! are dedicated tosupporting these projects, providing training, materials, transportation, and travel scholarships. No funds are passed directly to beneficiaries, but always used to support Projects through which our students learn. Bysupporting ISB Night!, and our Annual Fund, you aresupporting Service Learning, supporting our Mission, and supporting our students in achieving our educationalvision for them. We need this support, and we thankyou for giving it so generously.

Kevin BartlettISB Director

“The Togo trip this year was amazing. It gave me so many opportunities to open my eyes to a new world entirely. I was able to

step out of my comfort zone and learn. My personal goal … is that weultimately have put one element … into their hands that will help

them rise above the poverty and create themselves a better life, and … for their community.”

Dylan Cassell, 11th Grade (Togo 2010)

“Going on a service trip to Tanzania benefitsboth the people you help and yourself. You developa different perception of how the circumstances are

for some people and at the same time the importance of helping other people in need. It is

inspiring to learn about another culture andhaving a great time while doing it!”

Theodor Bolin, Grade 12 (Tanzania 2010)

“I went to prepare boxes… in Brussels with other

people from Serve theCity. In total, I think wemade around 200 boxes.

Today felt really satisfying, keeping in

mind that all of that isgoing to people from

Belgium in need, I helpedpeople from my own country, which is closer to me

personally than the people from Africa I helpedwith the African Bazaar.”

Ellen Moysens, 11th Grade (Serve the City)

Molok digs deeper for youMolok’s Deep Collection is an ingenious collec-tion of semi-underground waste containers. What you see is a stylishly crafted container that blends seamlessly into its surroundings but this is only the tip of the iceberg. Two thirds of the volume is out of sight as it is concealed neatly and safely underground.

A pleasure for peopleMolok containers can hold more waste, but take up less space. This looks more attractive and is kinder on your budget. It’s logical really, as your waste does not need to be collected as often. The well thought out cellar effect also ensures optimal hygienic circumstances and much safer storage for your waste.

Made for the environmentSustainability and environmental friendliness are a constant theme throughout all Molok’s ac-tivities. The Molok systems have been contribut-ing to supple and ecological waste collection for years. The containers themselves are composed of sustainable materials as far as this is possible.

Funds are like wine. There are good vintages and there are

the others. In addition to ING Investment Management’s

range, ING is now offering a selection of investment funds

from three renowned management companies: Amundi,

Franklin Templeton Investments and BlackRock. These

companies have been chosen for the quality of both their

management and that of their funds. Funds are like wine,

they must be selected with the utmost care.
