design ?an industrial process that consists of conceptualising (designing) objects, taking into account socio-cultural values, economic factors and manufacturing constraints, with the intent of improving the existing environment.

isd, the international school of design a unique academic venture on an international scale

supinfocom groupthe international group of digital creation institutes

ISD’s pioneering teaching methodology, unique among design schools and universities, is based on training delivered through “design teams”. These groups are composed of students from diverse specialisations (Product, Transportation or Digital Design) and different course levels. This enables them to develop practical managerial skills, an essential requirement for companies looking to hire designers capable of working in teams. The use of computer graphics images and the excellence of the Digital Design course enables concepts to be communicated in real-time and can be used as marketing/communication support, amongst project members and by top management for the decision making process. ISD has well-developed partnerships with design companies and research labs, signing almost 60 partnership contracts per year, especially for annual internships, both in the Foundation and Advanced courses.

Supinfocom, Supinfogame and ISD are three institutes founded by the chamber of commerce and Industry of Valenciennois, and whose common aim is to achieve creative excellence especially through the use of new technologies. The high level of our training, delivered by professionals, the talent of our graduates who are hired by well-known design companies, are a result of training in small project groups and individual attention given to each student. The group is expanding rapidly: Supinfocom is present in Arles and all three schools are present on a single campus in India in the city of Pune. We place more emphasis on quality rather than quantity, accepting no more than 350 students per school. Other expansion projects are in the pipeline, in France and abroad.

specialization product & servicesPROFESSION : DESIGNER FOR LEADERSHIPthis one-of-its-kind course aims to supply industries with project managers capable of directing the design process, both operationally and strategically. operational activities include setting up the design process in view of production, whereas strategic activities direct design decisions for mid to long term. isD students acquire these skills through training in “project groups”, in which one student heads a team of students coming from various specialisations and from different levels: a typical group would include students from industrial design, 3D design, digital design-computer graphics, and design management.

JOB OPPORTUNITIESstudents are usually hired by companies as in-house designers. however, a certain number of graduates choose to become consultants or to create their own companies. 35% of isDians who complete this course find jobs abroad, in the united states, asia and across Europe.

specialization transportationOBJECTIVE : EMOTION AND MOBILITYto conceptualise and develop the parts, the outline, the general structure of the interior or exterior of transportation vehicles, whether for the airways, roadways, railways or waterways.

JOB OPPORTUNITIESa large variety of jobs are available to students of the transportation specialisation: exterior design of vehicles, design of the interiors, advanced design etc. the four major transportation sectors, namely roadways, railways, waterways and airways, each consist of assemblers, part manufacturers, suppliers, operators, R&D departments, service providers and prototype makers. this translates into an equal number of employment opportunities and job roles for specialised designers: chief designer, studio design manager, advanced automotive designer, senior transportation designer, designer for exterior of transportation/automotive, designer for interior of transportation/automotive, junior automotive stylist…

COURSE STRUCTUREstudents who have completed the isD three-year foundation course undergo an internship during one semester followed by two semesters of classes. their course ends with a pre-employment internship. students newly entering isD for the advanced course after passing the entrance exam undergo three semesters of consecutive classes and then complete their two-year course with a pre-employment internship.

COURSE VALIDATION AND CERTIFICATE at the end of their course, students are required to give a presentation before an international Jury composed of industrial directors, employers, design managers… coming from European, north-american and asian design companies. the isD certificate corresponds to the international Master’s Degree level. this certificate is given a Level 1 attestation (which is equivalent to an Master degree) by the french government and the french national commission for Professional certification. it carries the title “Design Manager’ and mentions the specialisation chosen i.e. either transportation or product.

study & live in France

study & live in India

choose to study in India or France!Think of ISD as one institute with two sites: one in Pune (India) and the other in Valenciennes (north of France). Courses are delivered in English in Pune and in French in Valenciennes. Take the Bachelor’s course, for example; you can do the first two years at one campus and then travel across to the other for the final year. Or finish your Bachelor’s Course on one campus and earn your “Digital Management” certificate in another country. This also gives you the opportunity to do internships in the country of your choice! You can thus discover the “French touch” and European culture and on the other hand, experience all the excitement of a rapidly developing economy like India! That’s what makes ISD truly international!

international certificate recognized worldwideThe certificate delivered by ISD is ratified by the French certification body: the CNCP or the National Commission for Professional Certification. This certificate, ratified as it is by the French government itself, is recognised world over and is your gateway to an international career. It is delivered at the end of the five-year ISD course after the student’s presentation before an International Jury, and carries the title Design Manager and the specialisation chosen by the student: Product, Transportation or Digital Design.

90% FACULTY FROM FROM MANUFACTURERS of our 80 trainers and lecturers, 50% are designers with industry experience. they deliver training in short sessions of a few hours, one entire day of classes or counselling and several consecutive days of lectures (or workshops).

RESEARCH AND TRANSFER UNITSthe isD Management is composed of academic heads in-charge of networking with companies, design consultancy firms and research labs. the lateral function of this Research and transfer unit is to make available the studies, projects, models and designs developed within the institute to the world at large. the main role of each trainer-researcher consists of accompanying organisations in their search for competencies and talents trained at isD, including interns and young graduates.

ISD CAMPUSisD has an up-to-date training centre "technocentre cciv", located on the former site of the steel company usinoR, and next to the valenciennes fine arts school. We’ve deliberately limited our student capacity to 350, and accommodate them in 16 training rooms spread across three floors, each of 750 square metres.

FINANCES since 1997, isD’s investments have been subsidised at 50% by the European funding body ERDf. these projects provide a unique and unrivalled "digital design" resource hub.

LIBRARY AND CASE STUDY CENTREthe library of the three institutes of the supinfocom group contains 800 specialised works and almost 30 periodicals, which can be consulted either in the training centre tertia 3000 or at isD’s ‘technothèque’. isD’s case study centre dates back to its opening, and contains thousands of books, posters, reports, files, cDs and DvDs of individual/team projects, internships, design management audits, professional theses (M.s. in Design Management), prospective analysis reports, research papers etc.

ABOUT OUR CAMPUS the buildings on the Pune campus are designed with a view to create the best design institute in the world. benefiting from its 20 years experience in the field of design education, isD has built an efficient building with the latest technology and tools.

DESIGN PROSPECTS IN INDIA AND IN THE GLOBAL MARkET the demand for designers is huge. Many companies have realized the competitive advantage of design, and so this job holds a strategic position. Just like businesses, teams are increasingly international and indian designers are in high demand. With china, india is the main market of this century and entry into this market requires us to design products suited to indian expectations. Many companies have turned to india as the potential is enormous.

BASIC SkILL-SETS REqUIRED FOR A DESIGN CAREER to be a designer, you need to be curious, enthusiastic and ready to listen and learn. it takes a certain attitude to do this job. you need not know how to draw to enter isD as we teach you methods for drawing. however, being a designer requires passion and motivation!

DEMAND AND SUPPLY the current supply of designers in india is low; also, institutes do not have strong partnerships with the industry. Many students cannot design best-sellers and lack the necessary tools. at isD, we have invested in the latest tools and technology.

JOB PROSPECTS isD france has been in existence for over 22 years and today the institute has a wide international network: its 750 alumni are currently active in the global design industry! isD has produced some remarkable designers and in 22 years, has built an extraordinary international business network in every industrial domain.

PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES isD designers are popular in many companies and our graduates are offered jobs around the world. now, with our new campus in india, isD india’s designers are eagerly awaited; the opportunities are many in india and abroad.
