welcomemessage Welcome to the Spring Edition of voicenews. In this edition you will find articles on our Volunteering Celebration Event at the end of January which I had the pleasure of attending to hear the fantastic contribution volunteers make every day, supporting the delivery of Our Vision “High quality care, in the right place, at the right time, every time”. I was pleased to present certificates to volunteers recognising the number of years they have been volunteering with Lancashire Care. This edition also includes information on a number of volunteering opportunities so if you are interested in joining us as a volunteer please get in touch.

As you know the CQC re-inspected the Trust in September 2016 and we are thrilled to have received a rating of ‘Good’ which recognises our commitment to continuous quality improvement, particularly since the initial inspection which took place in April 2015. As an organisation we can be proud of our achievements to date as we continue to build on our successes and strive for excellence with the support and feedback of people who use our services, families, carers and staff.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of voicenews and as always we welcome your comments and feedback.

Regards,

Heather Tierney-Moore Chief Executive

involvement

Volunteer eventA really successful Volunteering event was held at the Village Hotel in Blackpool last month.

It was a great opportunity for volunteers to meet new people and celebrate volunteering. The Volunteers received their well-deserved years of service certificates which were presented by our Chief Executive Heather Tierney-Moore. Volunteers were able to give feedback on how we can do things better, and the enthusiasm and feedback from the day was amazing.

The photograph is of Marie Morrison who celebrated 20 years as a Volunteer. Our longest serving volunteer is Susan Bennett who has volunteered for 25 years and was presented with her certificate earlier in the year.

On this page you will find stories about how the involvement of service users

and carers has made a difference.

Peter Rowan, Volunteer shares his StoryI started volunteering 7 years ago at Parkwood, and then carried on when the service moved to The Harbour. I got involved because of my inpatient experience.

Initially I facilitated the weekly ward meetings and through these meetings I decided to set up a ward trolley for the patients selling snacks, drinks and toiletries. This was with the help and support of Sue Currey, Occupational Therapist Clinical Specialist.

If a patient needs anything not on the trolley, I try wherever possible to get this for them. The goods are reasonably priced and what little cash is generated by this enables me to buy a small Christmas present for each of the patients, Easter eggs and give out fresh fruit. The volunteering has helped me considerably by building my confidence and giving me a purpose as I am no longer able to work due to physical illness. I would recommend volunteering to anyone.

To find out how you can volunteer like Pete, contact the Volunteering team via email [email protected] or telephone 01772 645507

experience

Community Mental Health Survey 2017 People who use NHS community mental health services in Lancashire are being encouraged to take part in a survey to drive future service improvements.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is carrying out the 2017 Community Mental Health Survey to find out what people who use these services think about the care they receive in order to improve people’s experiences. The survey is led by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as part of a national programme to improve mental health services for local populations.

This year the survey has been sent to 850 people aged 18 and over who have recently used the Trust’s services. Obtaining feedback from people who use services and understanding what is important to them is vital for improving the quality of care. The results will help the Trust see where they are performing well and to identify any areas where there is room for improvement.

The survey is part of a commitment to design and deliver health services with people at the heart of everything we do. Our Vision identifies the importance of listening to people’s stories so that we can learn and improve quality together.

Those chosen will have received a copy of the questionnaire. Please complete this and send back. The results of the survey will be presented in a form that does not allow individuals to be identified. The results of the survey will be published by the CQC in November 2017 and will be shared by the Trust.

If you have any queries or concerns about the survey please contact Dawn Kenyon 01772 695366 or email [email protected].

The number of compliments

received by Lancashire Care between

1 January and 31 March 2017 was

2,484 and in the same period there

were 392 complaints

What we do with the feedback All feedback provides us with valuable information about where we are getting it right or could make it better and helps us to learn about what is important to people who use our services and those close to them.

Providing us with feedback At Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust we value and positively encourage the people who use our services, their families and carers to give us their views on how we are doing. This includes any kind of feedback and there are a variety of ways this can be done.

Dee Roach, Executive Director of Nursing and Quality said:“We hope that the people who use our services will take the time to help us with this survey. Their views are vital in helping us to find out how we are doing and how we can improve. This is an excellent way for people to help shape the services

we provide in the future.”
