The end of another successful year at MES Cairo has arrived. As we look back, there have been so many memorable events: the leg-busting, money raising 24-Hour Run; the all singing, all dancing Whole School Production of Mary Poppins; the community embracing Student Conference days; the celebration of MES Cairo talent through the Creative Arts Show and Peri Music Showcases; not to mention P.E. competitions, class assemblies, year group productions and concerts, and of course our fabulous Arabic Day – Youm El Amanie. The students have learnt new skills, acquired new knowledge and built new friendships. We all have different highlights from the year and many happy memories have been created along the way. Students, parents and staff can now reflect on this year and feel proud of their achievements and begin to look ahead to the opportunities that lie in wait next year and beyond. Finally, all the Staff in the Primary Department would like to wish everyone a happy and restful summer holidays and we look forwards to seeing you again in September! The end of another successful year at MES Cairo has arrived. As we look

back, there have been so many memorable events: the leg-busting,

money raising 24-Hour Run; the all singing, all dancing Whole School

Production of Mary Poppins; the community embracing Student

Conference days; the celebration of MES Cairo talent through the

Creative Arts Show and Peri Music Showcases; not to mention P.E.

competitions, class assemblies, year group productions and concerts,

and of course our fabulous Arabic Day – Youm El Amanie. The students

have learnt new skills, acquired new knowledge and built new

friendships. We all have different highlights from the year and many

happy memories have been created along the way. Students, parents

and staff can now reflect on this year and feel proud of their

achievements and begin to look ahead to the opportunities that lie in

wait next year and beyond. Finally, all the Staff in the Primary

Department would like to wish everyone a happy and restful summer

holidays and we look forwards to seeing you again in September!

…we have loved having swimming lessons this term with Mr Alex. We are now all very confident, we are all able to

enter the swimming pool safely and follow all the instructions given. Lots of us were very brave and swam in the big

pool, showing off some excellent swimming skills. Some of us were also able to jump into the deep end and swim to

the side of the pool. Everyone had lots of fun and we enjoyed playing games such as collecting rings from the bottom

of the pool, having races using the pool noodles and splashing Mr Alex! We are looking forward to our next swimming

lesson in FS2.

… we are really excited about our Topic, ‘Let’s Pretend’, last week we read ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. We

enjoyed acting out the story, making porridge and writing our own versions of the story. We also used the compare

Bears to solve mathematical practical problems, and we used junk boxes to build houses, we tested how strong

they were by using a hair dryer, pretending to blow them down like the Big Bad Wolf did in the story of the ‘Three

Little Pigs’. On Thursday, we also visited the Year 1 Pod in preparation for next year. We got to see the classrooms

and some of the routines were explained to us. We are really looking forward to joining Year 1 and continuing our

learning journey at MES Cairo.

… we have been studying plants in our recent Topic lessons. This week we handed in our Topic homework and

some of us chose to complete a presentation for our homework. All of us really enjoyed listening to our

classmates and learning some amazing facts about plants. Did you know sunflowers can grow up to 20 meters tall

and 1 meter wide? We all had lots of fun learning about different plants so if you want to learn more about

plants just ask any students in Year 2 Green!

…we have had an exciting week, a rocket crash landed in our

Pod, leaving behind quite the mess: mysterious footprints,

wet underpants, and a strange alien message! This lead us on

a journey to solve exactly what had happened and who had

landed at MES Cairo. Our class was a buzz of excitement;

decoding alien messages, writing letters to Wobbit and

Bobbit and creating our own alien stories. We ended our

week with an alien tea party. We celebrated our hard work

with a trip to the kitchen to bake and decorate cupcakes and

when the classroom was set up for our tea party we received

an urgent message from Miss Deena with a video of Miss

Hanna and our cupcakes vanishing which lead Year 1 Green

to write alien messages and hunt for Miss Hanna and the

missing cupcakes. Both were found safely and Miss Hanna

reassured us that Wobbit and Bobbit are kind and come in

peace, that they simply love cupcakes and couldn’t resist

taking a few!

…we have been learning about and exploring static

energy in our Science lessons. Mr. Darren challenged us

to bend water, get an object to stick to our bodies and to

move a small piece of paper, using static electricity. Did

you know that balloons do not conduct electricity, which

means they do not allow electric charges to move through

them? However, balloons are insulators and can become

electrically charged so using balloons and rubbing them

on our bodies we created lots of static energy, allowing

us to complete Mr. Darren’s challenges. We had lots of

fun as you can see from the pictures.

…we have been working tirelessly to prepare for our invention presentation in order to secure a place

in next week's Dragon’s Den Final! After designing and making a prototype model of our own unique

inventions, we have written jingles, created posters, worked out long term profit projections and even

made a television advert. These budding entrepreneurs have shown that, even at such a young age,

there is no age restriction on creativity!

… we have begun our final English unit of learning - Film Narratives. We have been studying two Disney Pixar films,

‘Wall-E’ and ‘Inside Out’, comparing and contrasting the films, alongside producing some amazing storyboards for

each. For ‘Inside Out’ we have been personifying our emotions through pictures. Our final challenge is to produce a

play script and produce our own short film. We are looking forward to making our films and judging who in the class

will be Green Class Oscar winners!

… we have been swapping

and sharing books this week.

We had a fantastic

opportunity to bring a book

from home and swap it with

someone else in Year 6. Our

class brought in a wide range

of books from different

genres and authors. We

spent a long time looking at

what was on offer from the

other classes and deciding on

which book we would like to

read. Everyone who brought

a book in was delighted to be

able to select a new book to

read over the summer

holidays. What will you be

reading this summer?
