Principal’s Report

Dear Families of QBC,

We are back! And what a wonderful feeling it was to welcome the students back to school for Term 2. After anticipating that the term would be predominantly ‘online’ it was such a welcomed turn-around to be told we could get back to ‘teaching’.

The short disruption to life we have all been experiencing is, however, an opportunity for us to reassess our lives. We can appreciate the liberties we have that may have been taken for granted, the relationships with family and friends that have been temporarily disconnected, and the support we usually have available that has been suspended.

For some, this time has been a time to slow down, to reconnect with family, to look at life through a much simpler lens, a time for reflection and contemplation, and a time to ‘catch up’ from our fast paced lives. This experience may give a more personal meaning to the phrase Carpé Diem – to seize the day! Whatever your journey has been, there is a joyfulness at being able to (slowly) return to some kind of ‘normal’.

As we do, may this be an opportunity to change and grow. To find a new rhythm and energy in life; to show thankfulness, gratitude, kindness, consideration and compassion; and to make these endearing qualities the essence of all that is important in our lives. May this experience remind us all to be thankful for each moment in life and take the opportunity to thank God for what we have, to enjoy His blessings, and to make each day count.

‘This is the day the Lord has made, we can rejoice and be glad in it’. Psalm 118:24

Science in actionThe Yr 7s are conducting experiments on ways to filter water. They worked in pairs practising social distancing

and timed the water filtration process. They will be making their own water filters at home using things from

the garden and recycling bin.

Parents will be notified as and when more events are allowed due to Covid 19 restrictions.

STUDY TIPS ONGOING PREPARATION (ALL YEAR ROUND)

1. Spend 5 minutes each night writing notes up from the day’s lesson 2. Use loose leaf paper to write notes on 3. Have a separate file for each subject to keep notes (a binder file or lever arch file is

best) 4. Use dot points only with trigger words highlighted 5. Make diagrams, flow charts, flash cards etc as you go

EXAM REVISION

1. Memorise your notes using Mnemonics, Anagrams, Songs, Pictures (Diagrams) 2. Attempt Practice Papers using your notes to help out at first, then progressing to no

notes for subsequent practice papers 3. Do practice papers without time restrictions at first, then increasing to do it with a

time restriction (per question) 4. Don’t do a whole practice paper in one go – break it up and do 2 - 3 questions in a

study session Post Exam Review Pointers

1. Students must review their papers to identify areas not done well 2. Correct mistakes 3. Look at someone’s paper who did well in the exam to see how they answered

questions you had trouble with 4. Identify and list what your friend did well in (assists with developing structure) 5. Get a good response to a question from the teacher 6. Redo the question(s) that were not done well 7. Do multiple practice papers (teachers will need to provide access to them)

NEXT ATARGET COURSEJULY REVISION AND EXAM PREPARATION PROGRAM

The July classes are a ten hour program that delivers specific subject revision followed by a discussion on how this material is assessed in ATAR-style exam questions. There is sufficient time within the program for teachers to model how to answer these questions successfully as well as time for students to independently practice constructing their own responses. Our teachers have significant marking experience and know what needs to be addressed to ensure student success in exams.
