Welcome to Issue 6Hello and welcome back.

Great to see you could spare a moment to read through the 6th issue of CAMEA Connect.

In this issue we are celebrating the fact that for the second year running we have received an award from the renowned European Digital Press Association (EDP). Our bizhub PRESS C1070 has beaten the competition to win the “Best cut-sheet colour printer – light production” category. Once again Konica Minolta demonstrated their expertise and success in the European Printing Market.

Something we are of course really proud of, and so should you, representing “our brand” in your respective countries.

Of course we could not let the World Cup pass unnoticed. In our center pages we have created an overview of all the groups and asked colleagues to send in images of how they celebrate the football in their country.

The results are very striking; “football brings everyone together!”

Furthermore we are covering the new bizhub PRESS C1100 series and the bizhub PRESS 2250P, the fastest, monochrome production engine.

Application wise, Konica Minolta has supplemented its wide range of office applications with YSoft SafeQ, and innovative, feature-rich solution that enables central print administration. You will learn more about YSoft SafeQ on page 11 of this issue.

Wishing you all great results for Q2.

Until we meet again,

Yours,

Mark Oldfield

to be precise in 1995, when Konica and Minolta where still miles apart....

I still remember the Minolta EP series being launched on my first week of work and the Konica U Bix range some weeks after. My first and only job before my current one was with Office Technology Ltd. (Libya) where I was recommended by my school to carry out my 3 weeks work experience.

Soon after I started to work as a part timer for the company and once I completed my diploma, I moved on to full time. Working with the same company for so long gave me the opportunity to gain experience in various departments, starting from sales/marketing, shipping/logistics together with administration and PA to the Managing Director. I then joined Konica Minolta Malta office 5 years ago, expecting new challenges, new experiences and with the intention to learn and get to know more about

Could you tell me a bit about yourself?

My name is Pauline, I am Maltese and my position with the company is that of Assistant to the Head of Malta offices. My star sign is Virgo, which makes me most of all a perfectionist, loyal but beware - critical too! I love reading and am addicted to magazines especially health/fashion or interior design ones but most of all I look forward to reading a good book whenever time permits. Cooking is also something which I am passionate about as long as I don’t have to cook any sort of cakes or sweets - would be best for everyone if I buy desert instead :) And since we are right in the middle of the World Cup fever.. I support Italy and make it a point not to miss a single game when Italy is playing.

What is your background?

I started working at a very young age,

Assistant to Head of Malta Office - Pauline Galea

this brand which I literally grew up with.. I am happy to say that my expectations were certainly met!

Was there a person in your career who really made a difference?

No, there is not ‘a’ single person but many different people from all

This issue we are meeting up for a nice glass of white wine with Pauline Galea. Relaxing by the sea we find out more about Pauline and her life in Malta. Please pull up a chair and see what Pauline has to say...

sectors whom I have met during the course of my career. I can honestly say that work made me stronger and helped to shape up my character throughout the years and make me the person I am now.

Can you describe a typical day or week in your position?

This is not an easy question since my daily work varies so much that I wouldn’t know from where to start. Every day is different and this is what I love about my job. I always look for challenges and hate repetition so I must say I was very lucky so far.

What is your personal mission statement?

Well, I have various but the one which I tend to follow very often is; Do it from the heart or not at all. This would be my personal mission statement which I use in all aspects of my life. I firmly believe that optimism is the key, to everything. But most of all, I tend to stand for what is right, even if most of the time this means standing alone.

What do you like to do most in your spare time?

I tend to spend a lot of my free time doing shopping - window shopping included. A girl can never have enough shoes or bags right? But I am also happy to spend an hour or so walking through the aisles at the supermarket! Shopping is like therapy for me and it normally works. I also like to go for a walk by the sea especially during winter when the weather is not so warm and listening to my favourite singer - Robby Williams

There is no right or wrong answer, but if you could be anywhere in

the world right now, where would you be?

I cannot say that I do not like travelling - I do and there are many countries still on my bucket list where I would like to visit one day, however I love my country and in the end, it will always be the place I return to - whatever the future may bring.

What is the last book you read?

I Heart London by Lindsey Kelk, with the latest one from her I Heart series “I Heart Christmas” to be the next one. Once I find the time of course.

Who is/are your hero(es):

My father. He is my weakest point, maybe the only person with whom I can never be angry with and I must say that the bond between us grows stronger day by day. I always looked at him as my hero since I was a little girl and now that I am old enough to understand him better, I am sure that this will never change.

If you could choose one super hero power, what would it be and why:

If I had the power to make people appreciate more what they have, I would use this super hero power to the max. We should not wait until we loose what we have in order to appreciate what we had.

In the next issue of CAMEA Connect we will be talking to

data and information at all times. To keep costs under control,

it is essential to monitor all print, copy and scan operations within an organisation. This is possible with YSoft SafeQ, which also offers a wide selection of detailed reports that help to optimise the print environment. Environmentally conscious companies, in particular, will benefit from green reports. Konica Minolta sets a new benchmark with the bizhub PRESS 2250P

The leading global provider of production printing solutions introduces the fastest own developed monochrome production engine in its successful history.

engine enhances overall productivity on one hand while providing highly sophisticated media handling on the other. The bizhub PRESS 2250P utilises air-suction technology and provides up to 18,000 sheets of input capacity and is able to handle various paper types from 40 to 350 grams per square meter (gsm) paper in simplex and duplex printing. Its accurate and stable feeding of thick and glossy coated paper sets this model apart from competitors’ engines. Thanks to the disjoining mechanism in the exit roller, the image position accuracy is improved. Moreover, the air-suction feed has been optimised to adjust to paper type and the feeding accuracy has been improved with the addition of a centring function to each tray. In addition, the new duplex print engine’s sheet input tray can be filled while printing is in progress so that there is no need to interrupt the production process.

Advanced technologiesThe new duplex print engine

perfectly complements operator’s offset environments to offer first-class print products. The bizhub PRESS 2250P’s up-to-date technologies are highly professional and save customer’s precious time. Independent front-to-back alignment and a distortion adjustment function

In 2012, the proven technologies of the bizhub PRESS 1250P achieved sustained success and did not only impress customers; it also received a BLI Award and was the only model in its class to be awarded five stars for productivity. Today, further development of the bizhub PRESS 2250P offers businesses double the benefits and creates a new market segment in the printing industry. High productivity, sophisticated media handling, excellent technologies and multifaceted finishing options enhance the overall performance of companies that need high speed production in order to meet extremely short runs, such as graphic communication providers, data centres and central reproduction departments.

Increasing productivityIts dual engine technology

for high-quality duplex printing combined with a print speed of 250

A4 duplex images per minute (ipm) and 132 SRA3 duplex ipm mean that the bizhub PRESS 2250P not only increases productivity but also ensures competitive advantage, ushering in a new era of printing on demand. Two inline connected print engines enable cost-effective printing as the sub-engine prints the front and the main engine prints the back of sheets.

ensure accurate duplex registration. Image alignment at the front and back of sheets is essential for post-processing of printed sheets handled by the brand new TD-501 tandem relay unit. Furthermore, automatic image density adjustment technology professionalises the printing process: the RU-509 relay unit has an IDC sensor which provides density stabilisation in both the sub-engine and the main engine. The optional HM-102 humidification unit can be integrated into every configuration to neutralise static electricity – which is highly important for demanding environments, e.g. book printing market – and removes heat from the printed sheets. Moreover, it is possible to adjust the density of the black tone of printed images on the front and back of sheets both manually and automatically.

Versatile finishing optionsBooklet making, perfect binding,

folding and punching, automatic ring binding and, of course, high stacking capabilities of up to 15,000 sheets are merely a few inline finishing options offered by the bizhub PRESS 2250P. Just as the input tray can be loaded while printing is in progress, the stacker can be unloaded without interrupting printing. The flexibility offered by the

large number of finishing options allows printing to be combined with finishing in one step without manual intervention. Ultimately, the one-step print products offered by the bizhub PRESS 2250P lead to increased profits in the print room and optimised budget planning.

“The dual-engine technology of the bizhub PRESS 2250P lives up to the motto ‘Deliver today instead of tomorrow’, because it doubles the print speed of the award-winning bizhub PRESS 1250P and

ensures a competitive advantage by dramatically increasing productivity,” comments Ines Wennemann, Product Manager, Production Printing Group, International Marketing Division.

Today I would like to share an initiative our colleagues in Langenhagen will join this year: Bike to Work.

The aim behind this initiative is to encourage people to use the bike to and from work instead of the car, with the hope to gain in the end a certain number of burned calories and of course saved emissions too!

Did you know that in Germany almost every 6th employee commutes to work by bike? Bicycling has many advantages: endurance and performance are improving and stress is fading away. Moreover, bicycling compensates some of the negative consequences of our mostly sedentary work style. It has been proved that with only 30 minutes a day on a bicycle, several health risks are reduced.

Not to forget that we actively reduce carbon emissions!

The annual German wide campaign “Bike to Work” (Mit dem Rad zur Arbeit) sets new records every year. In 2013 about 30,000 business cyclists from over 2,600 companies covered 24.9 million kilometres, just in Lower Saxony!

Konica Minolta is happily joining the initiative this year - the promotion period is 3 months from 1.6. till 31.8.2014 .

At the end of the initiative, each participant is able to determine his/her mileage, total burned calories and CO2 savings with his/her own personal action calendar. Participants can even win prizes in the official campaign so one has simply nothing to lose but can only gain from participating, in many ways.. Just getting started is often the biggest obstacle. So we hope that the above information serves also as motivation to you and we help you to turn your daily way to work into your individual fitness program!

What about similar initiatives or ideas in your own country...? We will be happy to share such initiatives in our next CAMEA Connect Newsletter! Just send us a mail on: [email protected] and we will do the rest.

Konica Minolta expands reach in APAC

production print is increasing, and Konica Minolta will benefit from closer links with production printers as a result of acquiring Ergo.

Both Charterhouse and Ergo have long been serving many high-profile global brands. They have also collaborated on projects over the last two years based on a shared strategic outside-in approach, focusing on services that will deliver value to clients.

“Ergo and Charterhouse have

The acquisition will significantly expand Konica Minolta’s global reach in Marketing Print Management (MPM) following its 2012 takeover of Charterhouse, which has a strong presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). It will create one of the largest MPM providers worldwide as these two companies together cover more than 30 countries.

“The culture, expertise and client base that Ergo brings to MPM fit perfectly with Charterhouse. This merger is a further step for us on the way to the global lead in marketing production,” said Jun Haraguchi, Senior Executive Officer at Konica Minolta. “This acquisition proves Konica Minolta’s commitment to the global development of Marketing Print Management,” he added. “We are thrilled to join the Konica Minolta Group. They are well known in the industry for their integrity, commitment to clients and innovation,” said Eugene Cora, CEO at Ergo.

Konica Minolta leads the production printing market in Europe and has long been active in Marketing Print Management (MPM) services, which improve the printing business process and assist planning and production of highly value-added products (print, displays, digital, etc) for promotion and marketing purposes. Demand for digital printing systems for

very similar cultures marked by a client-first mind-set” said Gary Mahoney, Charterhouse CEO. “This is a great opportunity for both organizations to leverage synergies from this acquisition and address client needs across the global market”.

Ergo and Charterhouse will make Konica Minolta one of the few global providers with full MPM service offering across the Asia-Pacific and EMEA regions.

At the start of the World Cup, we gave every distributor the option - via email - to receive our specially designed Konica Minolta World Cup Banner with schedule.

This was an enormous success, as most of the CAMEA countries requested the artwork for the banner.

Some countries were so quick that minutes after downloading the material it was already being printed. See here the proof straight from Tanzania.

Blue Angel Mark awarded for the Jade SeriesKonica Minolta received the (new) Blue Angel Mark (RAL-UZ 171) for the Jade series (bizhub 3300P, bizhub 4000P, bizhub 4700P) earlier this month.

Germany’s Blue Angel Mark is awarded to products and services that are beneficial for the environment and also fulfil high standards of occupational health and safety.

Introduced in 1978 by the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification, the Blue Angel was the worlds first ecological label. Important factors for qualification include: economical use of raw materials, production usages, service life and disposal.

NEWS IN THE OFFICE/FOLLOW US 22/23

Welcome once more to our Office Update Corner – and as we welcome summer, here at the Malta Office we are also welcoming the highly anticipated official launch of the OPS brand within the CAMEA region!

OPS Go-To Market Events

In conclusion to both trainings, participants gathered back in their respective countries where they held meetings with their technical colleagues to merge the learning outcomes of both trainings into their very own OPS strategy moving forward.

Now, six weeks after the last training, it is time for the official roll out of the CAMEA OPS Project – where once again we will offer our direct support to the distributors participating in this pilot project, in the form of a series of OPS Go-To Market Events that we will be organising in each participating distributor’s country.

Pioneering the project will be our distributors from Kazakhstan, Infoland whom together with us will be organising the first Go-To Market Event in Almaty on the 10th July.

We will keep you posted with the ongoing status of these events in the upcoming issues. Until the next one, and I wish you all an unforgettable summer.

In the previous two issues of CAMEA Connect we had informed you about the two initial trainings prior to the launch. Just to offer a quick recap of what happened – first training was organised for the PrintFleet tool training and welcomed technical personnel from the 7 participating distributors.

Installation methods and device management regimes topped the agenda during this first training.

Two weeks later, the second training followed; OPS Consult Training, which had participants from the participating distributors’ sales force. This session offered a full day mentoring on Consulting and Sales Approach styles followed by another two full days training on the Vendor tool, which is the software used during the Consult Stage.
