‘On your Desk in Five Days’ Service

50 years of Excellence for EA Technology

Innovation, adaptability and technical excellence are just some of the ways EA Technology has stayed ahead of the game when it comes to

enhancing performance, reliability, safety and cost-efficiency of power assets for companies around the globe.

The long established company was founded in 1966 as the Electricity Council Research Centre (ECRC). It was part of a national (government) department to undertake research and development on behalf of the UK looking at ways electricity could be used, and how it is distributed. Embarking on an amazing journey over the years, the name EA Technology is now globally recognised for developing innovative technologies for the electricity industry.

Today, their mission is to enable customers to manage their assets more efficiently, with fewer failures and outages, greater safety and lower costs. As an employee owned business, the organisation focusses on electricity distribution networks whether they are utility scale or private networks for industrial or commercial clients. Through their efficient consultancy services, software, technical services and products, EA

Technology help operators of networks make better investment decisions making them more cost effective and reliable.

Moving from being a Government R&D provider to becoming a commercial entity has meant a great deal of positive changes for the company. Their high performance solutions have contributed massively to the improvement of modern power systems across the world, successfully maximising procedures in 90 countries. The competent support tools and dedicated services are readily delivered to clients courtesy of the company’s 40-strong distribution

network, which is put into effect with strategically placed satellite offices in the USA, Australia, China, Europe, Singapore and the UAE.

“At our core, we are engineers,” commented Director David A Roberts. “We seek to provide high value-add solutions to our clients which has resulted in a strong customer base, both UK and global. We have always been dedicated to spotting changes in the market, focusing on what we can do to best position ourselves and provide value to customers. We are passionate about doing the ‘right’ thing and are strong believers in a work-hard, play-hard ethic. Whilst we strive for excellence, we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

Celebrating 50 years of success has only inspired EA Technology to continue investing in its products and services and provide the most up to date technology and solutions. To mark this amazing milestone, EA Technology held an anniversary open day on the 16th September which allowed visitors to tour their productive facilities and witness for themselves the outstanding level of innovation within the company.

Presentations of new technologies and concepts were held to give attendees an insight into recent introductions and those which are soon to be released to the market. This included the ‘LuCIUS’ concept, which aims to create ‘state aware’ electricity networks around the world and EA Technology’s own version of ‘self-healing’ LV networks that ensure the deployment of intelligently deployed technologies will be cost effective and will all but eliminate unplanned supply interruptions.

Visitors also witnessed the evolving range of safety and reliability focussed services and products, the competency based, and increasingly multi-media training packages and EA Technology’s vision for ‘Pre-emptive’ Asset Management of HV networks. The smart AM Visual development of the globally leading CBRM approach was also displayed which revolutionises network asset management through quantifying, optimising and visualising asset management interventions.

As well as these significant changes, EA technology has been at the forefront of network asset investment prioritization techniques for a number of decades. It’s globally leading Condition Based Risk

Management approach – Asset Investment Management (AIM) – is currently being built upon and revamped to make it suit the needs of the decades ahead.

The award winning company has also been pivotal in making the connection between the needs of local electricity networks and electric vehicles as nations make the shift towards transport electrification. They recently led the highly innovative My Electric Avenue project, which looked at how local electricity networks can cope with charging clusters of electric vehicles, and have since followed this up with what will be the world’s largest EV/network project, Electric Nation.

As EA Technology anticipates that the lower voltage networks will become pivotal as we move towards the decarbonisation of heat and transport, they are currently working on an OpenLV platform. At the moment, these networks operate passively, with relatively low amounts of data moving around, but things are set to radically change. In order to avoid significant infrastructure costs, new ways will be needed linking the electricity customers/citizens with the energy system, therefore EA Technology are developing a software platform that could be deployed in arguably every distribution substation in the country. Similar to a network equivalent of a smartphone – it will operate in an open manner, allowing a range of Apps to function, from a range of providers.

“Our 50th anniversary was an opportunity to show off what we do best, and where we are heading across all of our business,” David explained. “EA Technology’s future is bright and is likely to be characterised by continued innovation, whether in geographic development or in the solutions we develop and deliver. Without question, the energy sector is one of the most exciting areas for innovators in the world right now. The challenge of reducing energy costs, increasing reliability of supply and reducing carbon emissions, combine to create a fertile landscape for the amazingly creative and motivated people of EA Technology.

“Our future vision, based on our rich, is ambitious and it will continue to embrace the challenges ahead. Here’s to the next 50 years of innovation!”

The energy regulator Ofgem requires GB Distribution Network Operators

(DNOs) to have a methodology for asset health, criticality and monetised risk. Supported by EA Technology, the DNOs developed the Common Network Asset Indices Methodology (CNAIM) and submitted it for approval in 2015.

This provides Ofgem with a valuable dataset: delivery of regulatory objectives can be closely monitored and performance can be benchmarked. Through the strong financial incentives of RIIO regulation, outperformance can be rewarded, shaping DNO behaviour and delivering better value to customers.

The challenge for DNOs is how to use these incentives and freedoms to maximise income. One solution is to use a risk-based asset investment decision support tool, such as EA Technology’s Condition-Based

Risk Management (CBRM). This systematically analyses asset health, criticality and risk and uses this to prioritise and optimise investment plans.

Here at Industrial Solutions we are incredibly proud to feature

Leman Instruments SAS and present the team with its duly deserved Air Monitoring Company of Choice Award.

We are keen to tell our readers more about the important works of the reputable provider, which is best known for the production and promotion of its sophisticated suite of scientific components and modules utilised for solid, liquid and gas analysis.

The leading European enterprise, which is based in Archamps Technopole, France, is a contemporary company that prides itself on its first-rate range of high technology gas generators that have been suitably developed to seamlessly slot into the majority of laboratory, air quality monitoring and industrial environments.

Although the brand was officially introduced in 2012, the forward-thinking business is based on 30 years of refined industry experience, and this familiarity and understanding is made evident with the great variety of solutions available from the group.

The Leman Instruments offering comprises standard products, OEMs and custom designed realisations

involving high purity Hydrogen (H2), Nitrogen (N2), Zero Air and combined solutions for FIDs, GCs, purge Air generations, CH4 & CO2 scrubbers, N2 and multi gas for LCMS with the incorporation of strong performance communication interfaces (RS485, Ethernet and WLAN options) and the possibility of AK protocol integration.

Sales & Business Development Manager at Leman Instruments, Alexander Berteletti, was keen to discuss the core benefits of these particular components: “Our generators are the most compact of their kind,” he began. “As well as providing maximised safety and conservationism, they have the smallest footprint on the market with the highest possible efficiency and capacity.

“They offer optimum safety as they can eliminate the risk of a chemical reaction, particularly when using hydrogen, and because we operate with strict internal quality control processes it is assured that our generators will result in proper component function.

“This is of great importance, especially since we insist that our generators are exactly what our customers are after, maintaining guaranteed levels of purity and subsequently eliminating the chance of contamination. After listening to individual requests we can develop custom solutions together with the client, tailored for specific applications at competitive prices.”

The aforementioned modules are not only easy to install, but they also run effortlessly whilst increasing the resolution and detection limits of instrumentation. The inclusion of intelligent technologies (Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM), Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) and Catalysis) ensures that the products can be controlled efficiently using a touch panel or iPad, and high pressure stability is another key advantage.

In relation to current changes affecting the company, it is

relevant to mention that Leman Instruments has recently released an exciting new product: the GC STATION 60L & GC STATION 60LC. As a fully automated solution that is unlike any other available on the market, this particular addition acts as a combined technology gas generator which integrates an inboard compressor.

As well as frequently launching new products, the family-run business often attends trade shows in a bid to reach out to its ever-growing customer base. Exhibiting at Pittcon 2016, the largest laboratory science conference in the world, proved to be a particularly wise move as this event stimulated great interest for both the Leman Instruments brand and its range of premium quality laboratory equipment and dedicated analytical, testing, custom manufacturing, calibration and maintenance services.

Upon discussing what is on the agenda for Leman Instruments, Alexander concluded: “Our aim for the future is to keep on track with our company direction. This involves continued development with the introduction of new products and commitment in regards to increasing our presence in different markets.

“We find that advancing along with technology is fundamental but it is also important for us to keep our

customers close. Operating with maximum care, we ensure to offer single customers direct support and are always happy to answer any questions they may have. Overall the past 12 months have been fantastic for us here at Leman Instruments and we are pleased to have created a huge evolution for gas generators.”

Please don’t hesitate to contact the Leman Instruments group today if you require any further information or would like to enquire about a particular product or service. Any questions you pose will be met with an appropriate and informed response by a highly qualified industry professional.

Facilities Management News

Pumping Solutions News

The fruitful family owned business was set up in 1962 by founder

Trevor Cripps and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Housing multiple headquarters throughout the country (including its UK base in Tadworth) enables the dedicated operational support teams to efficiently serve customers across 6,000 sites and subsequently retain its status as one of the nation’s leading privately owned facilities management companies.

“TCFM delivers a range of single and multi-service FM contracts to a variety of businesses across a broad spectrum of sectors,” explained Marketing Manager Fiona Ellingham. “We pride ourselves on providing businesses with services that make them great companies to do business with or work at. When asked why they use our services, our clients tell us and others that we ‘solve their problems,’ ‘get things done’ and ‘deliver a flawless transition.’

“We are passionate about our people as it is through them that we are successful. Alongside this belief we operate around 4 key values as follows: treat people as we want to be treated, work with our customers to add value, deliver what we agree and operate with a unified team approach.”

This people-orientated philosophy has enabled TCFM to establish a loyal and widespread customer base comprising many blue chip companies. Its flexibility and professionalism has therefore been utilised and appreciated by esteemed brands The Body Shop, Travis Perkins, Tesco, New Look, Napp Pharmaceuticals, Direct Table Foods, Mitchells & Butler, Nationwide, Watford FC, Allianz Park and

It takes a strong, hardworking fabric to survive a tough,

hard day’s work. That’s why many leading workwear manufacturers use CORDURA® fabrics in their trousers, jackets, tool belts, knee reinforcement patches and safety boots.

We’re not talking hard day in the ‘I had so many meetings today’ kind of way. We’re talking real work. The kind that requires bending, lifting and twisting – and clothes that are durable

and functional enough to keep up. The fact that our fabrics are comfortable and stylish, well, that’s just a big workplace bonus.

The Student Design Awards empower young designers to create their own visions of professional work clothing. This year’s challenge ‘Project 20/20’ required student designers to conceptualize corporatewear, workwear and/or personal protective equipment (PPE) for workers in the year 2020. Students were

encouraged to go a step further with a special CORDURA® Durable Design Award that focused on the integration of technical fabric functionality and commercial viability – a ‘work tough’ design element.

Four UK students – James Parker, Bethany Martin, Mollie Crabtree, and Lauren Jones – were named as Project 20/20 winners and the work clothing that they designed was featured at the Safety & Health Expo in June this year.

CORDURA® Durable Design Award Winner: Bethany Martin, 2nd year, Hons in Fashion, University of Northampton. Martin created a garment range for professional outdoor landscape gardeners.

Here at Building Update we are delighted to feature Langs Quality

Furniture as our highly commended Designer of the Year 2016.

Ever since its foundation in 1999 Langs Quality Furniture has been

fulfilling the demands of clients with its range of beautifully made, customisable bar stools. Operating by means of an online shopping portal, the contemporary and forward-thinking brand is the brainchild of founder Graeme Lang,

who decided to address the gap in the market for premium quality breakfast bar stools.

Having previously worked for a large furniture provider the innovator realised there was a great demand for tailor-made bar stools suitable for home and kitchen use. It was this, as well as the notable capacity of enquiries he received for this particular product, that encouraged Graeme to establish his own company that would meet the expectations of everyone from homeowners and hotels to pubs and clubs.

Over the years Langs Quality Furniture has fine-tuned its online facility; adjusting the features as appropriate to keep the pace with modern technology. Customers can

now make the most of a highly usable and efficient ordering system that is very visual in its approach – users can easily view the individual styles, colours, finishes and bases available or, if preferred, they can create their own via a revolutionary design app.

Although predominantly a specialist supplier of luxury bar stools (the company also goes under the trading name of Breakfast Bar Stools), Langs Quality Furniture is a competent distributor of matching dining tables and chairs as well. Its impressively vast product portfolio provides customers with the awe-inspiring choice they would expect from an industry expert, and what’s more, the fashionable yet functional pieces of furniture can be delivered promptly anywhere across the UK and beyond for heightened access and convenience.

For further piece of mind, or even for creative inspiration, you can visit houzz.co.uk, as this will enable you to admire Langs’ furniture in real life applications. Adopting a style similar to the Pinterest format helps potential customers to admire matching designs currently in place, as the website is dedicated to promoting home décor (interior and exterior) excellency. It also gives users the option to save images to their

personal ‘idea book’, which they can consult later when deciding on the furniture best suited to complement their residence or business.

Please don’t hesitate to find out more – all you have to do is simply consult the team using the contact details supplied below or visit the links provided for the various social media platforms. If you would like to explore the design possibilities available with the app then please refer to http://www.seatingmyway.com/app/chairs, the resource which allows you to produce a unique stool or matching chair which you can customise accordingly before committing to purchase.

Paintings with a Distinct DifferenceDistinctively colourful art is

personified with Brian Phillips, who has established himself as a truly hard-working and inspirational individual with a real talent for painting. Having dabbled in the art world for over 50 years, Brian has managed to create a signature style, widely acknowledged for its bold lines and interesting colour combinations.

Brian, who was born in Manchester in 1939, realised his talents at school whilst excelling in his art lessons. His illustrations caught the attention of his classmates, who were confident in the belief that Brian would continue to pursue a successful career in painting.

Upon leaving school Brian secured jobs in advertising and commercial art, but after 25 years he decided to focus on his main passion: recreational art. During this time the hard-working innovator effectively began to refine his skills, experimenting with the palette to create exciting colour combinations and intriguing visual effects.

Brian, who has experimented with various hues, textures and materials, has completed

400 murals (predominantly in hospitals and schools) and has organised 50 one-man exhibitions across England and Scotland. He has made an appearance in two magazines as a selected “Artist of the Year”, and is looking forward to attending two exhibitions later this year in Dunoon (the Juno Design Gallery from May to July and the Pop up Gallery in August). His vibrant pieces of art are available for purchase online and in numerous art galleries.

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning News

Your perfect climateHere at Building Update, we

pride ourselves on promoting businesses of the highest calibre operating within a number of industry sectors. We are therefore delighted to introduce our readers to Munters and tell them more about this exceptional company.

It all began in 1955, when founder Carl Munters decided to establish a business that would, in effect, create ‘the perfect climate’. The globally operational leader specialising in energy efficient air treatment solutions has subsequently been trading for over 60 years, helping to enhance and define the future of this particular

environmental impact over the generations.

Today, the provider of innovative and cost-effective air treatment and climate control systems is an internationally recognised brand successfully servicing the needs

of clients across 30 countries. Its capabilities in this niche arena has enabled the team of more than 3,000 employees to develop optimised products for customers in a range of sectors (including the pharmaceutical, food, electronics, preservation, utility and construction markets).

With the proven combination of innovative technologies and experienced engineers, Munters can competently provide sales and manufacturing services to organisations working within these varied industries. The business is split into four core areas of operation, the first being the air treatment division, which focuses on solutions for industrial processes and comfort climate applications.

The second department, AgHort, remains focused on improving indoor climates for plant cultivation and livestock breeding, whilst the third, named HumiCool, centres on an intelligent mobile system designed for commercial buildings and industry. The final unit is dedicated to mist elimination and aims to assist those also working amidst the industrial marketplace.

A significant product purchasable from Munters is its award-winning IceDry™, a desiccant dehumidifier purposefully made for use in cold stores. This product resolves issues commonplace in cold environments – namely problems caused by ice, frost, snow and condensation – and so is effective

when employed in a number of segments.

Another addition of note is the Oasis™ IEC Indirect Evaporative Cooler, which is utilised for data centre cooling. This system, which has been classed as a more functional alternative to the typical free cooling techniques, completely eradicates contamination from mixed air streams whilst providing an impressively low PUE. This makes the Oasis™ IEC extremely favourable for cooling data centre facilities.

Meanwhile, close control systems such as the MX2 Plus, MDU and ML Plus are recognised for focusing on controlling both humidity and temperature. With the capacity to deliver between 180m3/hr to

100,000 m3/hr of air and the ability to create an optimum climate across the seasons, these systems are ideal for important and sensitive processes involving food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and finally, for preservation applications.

Please feel free to contact Munters if you are interested in enquiring about any of the products available. Alternatively you can visit the website at www.munters.co.uk, which is rich with resources (including case studies, apps, videos and guides) that will provide

you with all of the necessary details needed to make an informed decision that will benefit you and your organisation.

The surveying team keep in regular contact with the customer service team on site and off site to ensure that a first class service is delivered.

A combined approach can help reduce time and money... Our Building Control service has been

modelled to work in collaboration with our warranty schemes, streamlining the entire process to potentially save both time and money on residential, mixed-use or self-build projects. Sounds simple enough, here’s how it works…

How does it work?On registering a site with us for our combined service, you are assigned a dedicated Risk Management Surveyor who will be primarily responsible for both your Warranty and Building Control inspections. Our dedicated Design review team can offer support ensuring schemes meet regulations. Our design reviews team support the Site Surveyors who will work with the Site management team in their aim to bring the scheme to a satisfactory conclusion. This allows all plan checks for warranty inspections and Building Control to be dealt with simultaneously, significantly reducing time and effort.

By combining our services, you can be sure that you will be meeting the requirements of what is expected from compliance with Building Regulations.

Consultancy based service From design stages to completion, our Surveyor or project team will support you through the build process using our tested risk management approach that will not only reduce the risk of costly defects but help you comply with Building Regulations.

In addition, you will be able to: Use our free Initial Notice submission Adapt the inspection plan to the needs of

the site through our tailored regime Advise on methods of compliance with our

plan checking service, under CIC rules we cannot design it for them

Save time by electronically submitting drawings and project information.

As registered Approved Inspectors, Premier Guarantee is able to offer expert guidance on ways of achieving compliance with the Building Regulations, both during the design and construction phases. Using combined Warranty and Building Control provision you benefit from a combined design review covering both areas therefore reducing potential conflicts of

interpretation between separate professionals.

On major schemes, we are available to attend Design Team meetings to discuss principles of achieving our requirements, thus facilitating the design process.

Specialists in building restoration

The exceptional organisation Signs of the Times (SOTT)

has been awarded with our highly regarded Commitment to Excellence profile, we are pleased to announce here at Building Update.

The reputable bespoke castings and design expert was established in 1984 by David Dokk-Olsen, who had a deep-rooted interest in cast iron foundries and subsequently wanted to set up his own business involved in the manufacture of these robust signs. The company, which is based in Bedfordshire, is made up of 12 people who collectively share more than 150 years of industry experience and are well placed to serve the needs of customers across various industries (domestic and commercial applications included).

This flexibility comes courtesy of the organisation’s wide-reaching product offering. Having diversified from simply creating house signs to producing a comprehensive range of signage and decorative panels, SOTT is a specialist designer, manufacturer and supplier facilitating the demanding requirements of builders, architects, councils and schools with an unparalleled level of expertise and excellence.

Clients are therefore encouraged to discuss their requirements fully – we even welcome customers to come to our workshop, as this will enable them to talk through any design ideas with greater ease. We assist and advise where appropriate, incorporating site logos to match the project, and we can supply noticeboard cabinets and lecterns with information panels and artwork services for panels and estate maps.”

SOTT responded to the increased demand for its products by extending its product portfolio with an additional letter box business. The group now boast a large stock of popular mail boxes; an array of designs including traditional European style items and anti-arson prototypes for flats and offices. As well as original cast polyurethane signs, cast bronze, aluminium and Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) options are available, and brass, bronze, slate, granite and Perspex

cast and cut-out letters can be engraved as appropriate to match any size letterbox.

The full selection can be itemised as follows: house signs, estate signs, village centre & town boundary signs, show-house signs, street name plates, directory systems & orientation boards, commemorative (including blue plaques) & informative plaques, heraldic devices & ceremonial coats of arms, company logos, country signs & footpath way markers, urban walking signs, golf club signage, corporate roundabout markers, presentation plaques, scholastic & ecclesiastical signs, wall mounted & suspended signs, fingerposts & post mounted directional signs and, as previously mentioned, individual letters in various materials, sizes and typeface.

SOTT utilises an infinite variety of materials and methods during the manufacturing process and is reliant on an artistic and perceptive approach to design (rather than the more stereotypical mode which is based on computer generated imagery).

Its range of products comprises pointing mix, natural hydraulic lime, laths, cob blocks, Helifix bars,

Glass Repairs NewsYour Glass Solution is ClearBuilding Update is extremely

proud to present Clarity Glass Repairs with its highly prestigious and industry acclaimed Commitment to Excellence profile.

With years of experience in repairing damaged or scratched glass, Clarity Glass Repairs’ skilled and dedicated technicians are able to repair all types of damage to glass. Satisfying the needs of customers in retail, construction, commercial and residential, the company provides reactive, preventative and planned maintenance services on interior and exterior glass.

The sole purpose for installing glass is to provide the ability to see through it. However if glass is damaged through general wear and tear, accidental scratching or through malicious scratched graffiti damage, this can detract from its original purpose and the original clarity of vision is disrupted and lost.

When repairing scratched glass, Clarity takes the time to determine the type of glass about to be worked on, whether it has any flaws, small scratches and cracks, especially at its edges, and carries out a close inspection of the area to be repaired.

Varying grades of flat abrasive pads are then used to carefully grind the glass flat to the depth of the scratch whilst feathering the area to ensure the glass is restored back to its original clarity. The cloudiness that occurs as a consequence of grinding is then finely polished out using cerium oxide compound to restore the glass surface to its maximum clarity.

There are many ways in which glass can become stained, discoloured or hazy. Rain water flowing over the façade of a building can pick up traffic grime and minerals from concrete, mortar or stone and carry these contaminants onto the surface of the glass. As standard cleaning products do not work, the company use modern glass polishing techniques that can get the glass back to its original clarity. If your glass has been damaged by this, Clarity can restore it saving you up to 80% of the potential costs of the replacement units.

As well as saving you time and money and providing a more convenient service, repairing scratched and mineral damaged glass rather than replacing it also benefits the environment. In today’s environmentally conscious marketplace companies are constantly looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Repairing glass is just one change that companies can make to become more sustainable without affecting their business practices or breaking the bank.

Packaging News

Food & beverage traceability

Weber Packaging Solutions looks at how automation in food

and beverage production can help to deliver increased quality assurance and traceability.

What is traceability?According to Irish & EU Food Law, ‘Traceability’ is the ability to trace and follow a food, feed, food-producing animal or substance intended to be, or expected to be, incorporated into a food or feed, through all stages of production, processing and distribution.

StandardisationProviding a sell by or use by date on your product is no longer sufficient. Consumers, manufacturers and distributors require more information on where and when the

product was produced and/or processed, where it originated, what it contains and how to use it.

To help meet the requirements of all stakeholders within the supply chain there has been a move towards standardisation in the way information on food and drink packaging is presented.

EU regulationsThe European Food Information to Consumers Regulation No 1169/2011 (FIC) brings together EU rules on general food labelling and nutrition labelling into a single piece of legislation. New rules on country of origin information for majority of meats from April 2015.

GS1GS1 standards provide a wider framework for supply chain visibility and are steadily being adopted by the food and beverage industry to offer recognised framework for supply chain visibility and product traceability. Implementing a traceability system within a supply chain requires all parties involved to share standardised information relating to products. The identification and communication standards that constitute the GS1 System, and the

principles on which they are designed, make them ideally suited for the purpose of traceability.

Production processIntegrating process controllers, barcode reading, product labellers and vision equipment directly into the real-time network can help to automate inspection tasks which, currently, are carried out by human operators.

Total cost of ownership Food and beverage producers are under constant pressure to reduce costs however this reduction in cost cannot be at the expense of product quality. Automation of production, labelling, data capture and traceability systems are proven to reduce errors, reduce product recalls, reduce wastage and increase productivity. This

when compared to the existing, perhaps manual processes and procedures should be factored in when evaluating the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of any system under consideration. Automation systems are key to a TCO approach, as a successfully implemented system will add to reliability and product traceability.

Weber Packaging SolutionsWeber Packaging Solutions provide holistic solutions to all industries including labels, media, label applicators, print & apply systems, inkjet coders, data capture and vision systems, with all equipment fully supported and serviced by Weber.

Flexidisc Sanding System and Le Tonkinois Varnish

The Flexidisc Sanding system has been sold in the UK by

DA & BE Murkin for almost 30 years, but it still remains one of the most versatile sanders on the market.

The Flexidisc is a system based on an exciting 5" (125 mm) disc sander attachment which fits in your drill, and does not jump, skitter or scuff. This is due to a simple but highly efficient flexible shaft which eliminates vibration. It gives full control without the need for effort or expertise when presented full face to the job surface.

This system accomplishes fantastic finishes on all hard

materials including wood, metal, glass, fibreglass and car body filler.

Fast rotation allows this quality process to be completed in a fraction of the time normally taken by conventional sanders. Although a generic sander in its basic form, the multi-purpose tool can convert within seconds to become a super-fine finishing sander, bench grinder, sharpener, partial angle grinder, polish applicator and polisher – all of this within a small device that can be carried conveniently in your pocket!

Flexidisc uses ‘slap-on peel-off’ Velcro type discs which are coated with a super-tough material called Corundum, (close to diamond for hardness). Re-usable and cleanable, these discs will do the work of at least 100 conventional discs and are able to comfortably cope with a wide range of materials from soft plaster to iron and steel, including slate, concrete and marble. In addition, they can transform a rough-sawn plank to a polished finish faster than any other conventional sander. Because these discs generate very little heat, they retard over-heating during grinding,

therefore can safely sand G.R.P. and old paint without melting the material.

Using this same ‘slap-on’ system, polish is easily applied over any size area, using the foam sponge, whilst an oversized re-washable polishing cap effortlessly completes the job. This means cars, boats and caravans can be polished, quickly and easily.

DA & BE Murkin are also the sole importers of Le Tonkinois Varnish.

This is an old fashioned varnish, manufactured the traditional way, using Linseed oil, Tung oil & natural resins.

Slower drying than modern varnishes it will not show any brushmarks and will sink into the timber. So remaining flexible, it will move with the timber and not crack or peel.

Challenges us to find you a Solution...The Flexible Coatings Company

Specialising In Quality Powder CoatingHere at Industrial Solutions we

are delighted to announce that Thermaset has been selected as our dedicated Powder Coating Company of Choice.

It all began in 1984 with the business’s founder Tom McElhannan. Over three decades of refined industry experience – namely in the formulation of thermosetting powders for the purpose of electrostatic application – has enabled the company to become one of the largest manufacturers of its kind operating within the UK.

Based in Staffordshire, Thermaset boasts an extensive product range comprising various powder coatings (speciality, antibacterial, polyester,

architectural, nylon modified, epoxy, post forming and epoxy polyester included). The particularly popular architectural variety, which can be used for interior and exterior usage, incorporates selected polyester resins and pigments in order to remain functional after being laid on buildings, window frames, fascia and fences.

The corrosion-resistant powders have proven effective within shop fitting, electronic, household appliance, furniture and automotive applications. These products have been deemed a more operationally advantageous alternative to traditional, solvent-based coatings because they don’t run or sag and don’t require the effort involved with pre-mixing. Other benefits include minimal waste, easy control and the ability to be recovered for re-use.

The recently ISO 14001 accredited

organisation is also pleased to offer a highly convenient and widely appreciated next day delivery service. This efficient method, which has been titled ‘Pre 12 for a Pre 12’, enables customers to receive selected stock the morning after an order submission, provided the purchase was made before noon on the previous day.

Ben Jennens, Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator at Thermaset, told us: “The depth of our stock range and the level of customer service we offer is what places us in a strong position in the industry. We provide the personal touch – our dedicated and experienced team are always on hand to answer any query as quickly as possible and we strive to provide every customer with the right product to suit their requirements.”

Powder Coating Specialists

Dating back to 1984, Thermaset has provided a variety of

companies around the UK with superior quality powder coatings. Their three decades of refined experience in the formulation of thermosetting powders for electrostatic application has enabled the company to gain an enviable reputation for industry excellence.

Originally set up by founder Tom McElhannan, Thermaset has grown significantly over the years, having now secured the status as one the largest manufacturers in the UK. It is now managed and run by his son John and daughter Gill, who have recently achieved full ISO 14001 accreditation.

Effective within shop fitting, electronic, household appliance, furniture and automotive applications, Thermaset’s corrosion-resistant powder boast a whole host of benefits. They can be recovered for re-use, require no

pre-mixing and can be easily controlled with minimal wastage. They are typically used in place of solvent based products, as more functional alternatives that aren’t subject to running or sagging.

The varied product range includes quality powder coatings such as antibacterial, polyester, architectural, nylon modified, epoxy, post forming, epoxy polyester and speciality.Extremely popular is the architectural range which is designed for both interior and exterior use. Specially formulated on selected polyester resins and pigments, the powders provide a tough decorative finish with excellent outdoor durability. They can be used on many architectural applications such as buildings, window frames, fascia and fencing and are approved to the QUALICOAT quality mark.

The Staffordshire based company prides itself on their ability to deliver a wide variety of stock for next day delivery. Their ‘Pre 12 for a Pre 12’ delivery service enables clients to have a morning delivery of their powder on orders received before noon the previous day.

According to principles of cogeneration, the Spanner Wood Cogeneration System

converts wood chips into biomass electricity and warmth with high efficiency. The systems are run using natural wood chips and provide attractive cost advantages and/or increased power yields according to location and legal conditions. Hundreds of our systems are used in Europe, Asia and North America in agriculture and forestry, hotels, restaurants and heat grids, powered with biomass electricity and warmth from wood gasifier.

The newly developed, compact wood cogeneration systems HV30V1.1 and HV45V1.1 make it possible to fit the systems in rooms with a minimum standard ceiling height of 2.50m. Besides heat

insulation, all the heat carrying components are covered with a resistant coating. A more efficient generator is used for the CHP, which further increases the efficiency of the overall system.

With respect to internal values, such as for process leading and its components, this has provided great results for hundreds of operators over a total of several million operating hours: a compact reformer, condensate free wood gas purification and intelligent, fully automated process regulation. The performance sizes of 30 kWel or 45 kWel have proved themselves, as these dimensions have proven as particularly good. in covering

base loads for heating grids. If necessary, several systems can be combined seamlessly.

The heart of the wood cogeneration plant is an efficient, robust combined heat and power system (CHP). The plant consists of an innovative reformer and a CHP, powered by the system of wood gasification.

Depending on the system of wood gasification, the plant generates biomass electricity between 30 and 45 kWel and a total heat power of 80 to 120 kWth. Wood chip consumption is between 30 and 45kg/h equalling consumption of approx. 1kg/h wood chips per kWel electric output, powered by wood gasifier.

Technical advantages of a wood cogeneration plant:Innovative technology, trusted system technology– No experiments: Our plants integrate Spanner's proven combined knowledge and many decades of application experience in the automotive and

plant industries with innovative cogeneration plant technology. You can therefore be sure that state of the art technology in a highly efficient plant will reliably work for you for many decades.

Successful in operation – Numerous wood cogeneration systems are successfully in use in several European countries, North America and Asia.

High efficiency – The principle of CHP in a wood cogeneration system makes optimum use of wood as a natural resource via the wood carburettor. Wood is much too valuable to just burn it!

Natural wood chips as fuel – The wood cogeneration system is fuelled with conventional woodchips. Therefore, you can use forest wood just as easily as wood from short rotation coppices.

You could be forgiven for thinking that Lee Sanitation

are the new kids on the block when it comes to providing sanitation for the portable industry. The truth is the Company has a long history in supplying solutions for mobile welfare.

The story started over 40 years ago when the then British Waterways Board, the custodians of the inland waterways of the UK, made it a requirement for all hire boats on their navigations to have a closed toilet system installed rather than the time honoured tradition of pumping the waste overboard and into the canals and rivers. The hire boat industry and the boat owners needed solutions and so from this point LeeSan was born.

Having spent the early years providing the toilets, tanks, pumps and all the system ancillaries for the boats it became obvious to

the hire boat companies that there would be a requirement for some efficient, well-engineered solutions for the effective removal of the waste from the boats. Hire boats had been using various methods of discharging boats with very little success costing both time and money. LeeSan took up the challenge and can now offer solutions to marinas that provide a service for all types of vessels from small sailing boats to the biggest of Superyachts.

Sanondaf is the only decontamination franchise

in the UK specialising in the disinfection and decontamination markets using revolutionary and completely touch-less disinfection technologies. Their extremely advanced touch-less disinfection system actively kills 99.99% of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould.

Although the company is just 2 years old in the UK, they have achieved national coverage with 30 operational territories covering all parts of the UK and Ireland. As well as this, their international growth is also substantial, as they have now commenced operations in Central and South America, Singapore and Thailand, and are due to launch in South Africa in December.

“We have positioned ourselves in the market as specialist disinfection and decontamination providers with a system that is affordable, cost-effective and readily accessible through our UK wide team of technicians.”

The eco-friendly, touch-less disinfection solution from Sanondaf involves the application of a dry disinfectant mist which has been utilised in many different environments such as care homes, hospitals, nurseries, veterinary centres, funeral parlours,

laboratories, food production facilities, operating theatres, offices, restaurants and kitchens.

Disinfectant fogging provides certainty that an entire environment, room or space has been treated and this includes all surfaces, difficult to reach areas and of course the air itself which can contain airborne pathogens, this is the gold standard of disinfectant techniques and eliminates manual error from this vital task of protecting people’s health.

Unsurprisingly, the great functionality of the group’s touch-less disinfection solutions hasn’t gone unnoticed. Over the past 18 months Sanondaf has been credited with 4 important business awards: a Company of the Year title and the Industrial Excellence 2015 award from Best Practice, Best Company at Show from Solutions UK and selected Best New Business at the Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards.

“Interest in touch less disinfection is at an all-time high as more evidence emerges from the hospital sector about the inefficiency of manual cleaning when trying to combat the ever increasing threat of infections and in particular antibiotic resistant infections which ultimately can result in the loss of life,” Stuart explained.

“Only this week the United Nations produced a declaration signed by 193 countries to specifically formulate an action plan for dealing with drug resistant infections and super bugs. In the UK a target has been set to reduce the incidence of high risk bacterial infections in hospitals by 50% by 2020 and this will not be achieved using traditional manual cleaning techniques.

The company is pleased to run ‘The Sanondaf Challenge,’ a free-of –charge service involving the collation of environmental swabs to identify hygiene levels in different settings. Please get in touch with the group today or check out the client testimonials and videos online for further information.
