Why Die Before Your Time? What is Anti-Aging Medicine?By Dr. Greg Fors
Are you living the life you dreamed of when you wereyoung? One filled with the vitality and personal power to create the happiness you knew you were meant for? If not then please read on, there is help. Much too often in our society individuals find themselvessuffering with the symptoms of premature aging. They are plagued with constant muscle and joint pain, chronic fatigue and the loss of strength and drive. Many people become needlessly crippled and millions die early every year from avoidable age-related conditions. It need not be this way, but it takes making a personal decisionfollowed with the determination and will to want to be better. Degenerative aging can be diagnosed and most definitelycan be slowed with better diet and lifestyle choices. A n t i -aging medicine, the clinical use of advanced laboratory medicine for early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related dysfunctions and diseases is not new. Practicing doctors of Anti-aging medicine use proper diet, lifestyle choices, and proven functional medicine to help their patients live healthy, longer andbetter lives. What must you do now? You’ve heard this before... “Stop the self inflicted injury”. Negative habits can hurt more than any healthy life extension techniques could ever compensate for. Face it, what is the point of painting the house if you are letting thefoundation crumble? Here it comes... do you smoke or do recreational drugs? STOP! Do you eat junk food or are overweight? STOP! Do you exercise little or not at all? START! Begin right now to adopt a healthy lifestyle and here’s a starting point. If you haven’t seen a doctor in years, or feel your present doctor does not know howto keep you healthy without drugs, then find one you can trust totalk about actually improving your health instead of being treated with more drugs. It’s possible, the body is complex and wonderfully resilient. However, unlike your car, you can’t just replace it when it permanently breaks down. READ ON! The primary cause of early aging and degenerative disease is ‘oxidative stress and chronic inflammation’. It’s like your tissues are “on simmer, and sort of cooking away at an acceleratedrate”. The main culprit is free radicals, small molecules lacking anelectron. These free radicals steal an electron from healthy cells; it’s like pulling a cog from a fine Swiss watch and expecting it to keepproper time. Free radicals can even start destroying your cellularDNA. Our increased exposure to chemicals and toxic metals in the today’s environment is one of the primary causes for free radicals. It’s a modern day dilemma that needs a modern day approach to fix. Doctors knowledgeable in anti-aging medicine knowabout laboratory biomarkers that identify high levels of chronicinflammation and free radical damage. They also have the know how to assist you in stopping the damage, improve your vital health, and prevent further degenerative diseases. Another vital factor in anti-aging medicine is properbalanced hormone function, and most importantly, proper thyroidfunction. To fully understand a patient’s thyroid function requires at least 6 to 8 thyroid tests. Just running the typical TSH and T4catches only 17% of the individuals with thyroid dysfunction. Thisis especially true in women. In men the most important hormone balance to fight premature aging is testosterone levels. To properly diagnose male hormonal balance requires at least six tests, and not just totaltestosterone. With proper assessment men can achieve betterhormone balance to defeat premature aging plus regain loss of vitality, drive and intimacy. I could go on and I will, but not here. Free radicals, proper hormonal balance, anti-aging medicine, the lab tests to properly diagnose these conditions, and discussions on natural solutions for healthy aging will be the subject matter of my upcoming FREE seminars. These seminars will be held at 7 PMWednesday, April 4th and 7 PM Monday, April 9th at the Pain and Brain Healing Center. One is also scheduled for Monday, April23rd 6:30 PM at Fridley public library. For details please see ouradvertisement below.Dr. Greg Fors, D.C. is a Board-certified Neurologist (IBCN), certified in Applied Herbal Sciences (NWHSU) and acupuncture. Trained through the Autism Research Institute he is a registered Defeat Autism Now! Doctor. As the clinic director of the Pain and Brain Healing Center in Blaine Minnesota he specializes in a natural biomedical approach to fibromyalgia, fatigue, depression, autism and ADHD. If you have any questions or comments regarding this article you can contact Dr. Fors at 763-862-7100 He is a sought after international lecturer for various post graduate departments and state associations. ► On April 1, 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of playing April Fool’s jokes. In keeping with the fun, in 1957 the BBC reported that Swiss farmers were experiencing a record spaghetti crop and showed footage of people harvesting noodles from trees.
► On March 30, 1867, the U.S. government puts the fi nishing touches a deal to purchase Alaska. It paid Alaska’s owner, Russia, $7.2 million, or roughly 2 cents per acre of land. Among many Republicans the deal was derisively known as “Seward’s Folly,” after U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward.
► On March 26, 1937, America’s fi rst monument to a comic strip hero is unveiled in Crystal City, Texas. The 6-foot-tall, brightly colored concrete statue of Popeye was unveiled in Popeye Park during the city’s second annual Spinach Festival.
► On March 27, 1964, the strongest earthquake in American history, measuring 8.4 on the Richter scale, slams southern Alaska, creating a deadly tsunami. Some 125 people were killed and thousands injured. The tidal wave devastated towns along the Gulf of Alaska and caused carnage in British Columbia, Canada; Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States.
► On March 28, 1979, the worst accident in the history of the U.S. nuclear power industry begins when a pressure valve in the Unit-2 reactor at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania fails to close. As engineers struggled to understand what had
happened, the reactor came within less than an hour of a complete meltdown.
► On April 4, 1812, President James Madison fi res an economic salvo at the British government and enacts a 90-day embargo on trade with England. The embargo did little to forestall war: The British refused to cease harassing American ships, prompting Madison to lead America into the War of 1812.
► On April 3, 1860, the fi rst Pony Express mail simultaneously leaves St. Joseph, Mo., heading west, and Sacramento, Calif., heading east on a 1,800-mile journey. On April 13, the westbound packet arrived in Sacramento, beating the eastbound packet by two days.
► On April 7, 1891, American showman Phineas Taylor Barnum dies in Bridgeport, Conn. The 81-year-old showman’s sense of humor never
deserted him. He requested that a New York newspaper run his obituary before he died so he could enjoy reading it, and the paper obliged.
► On April 2, 1902, the fi rst American theater devoted solely to movies opens in Los Angeles. Housed in a circus tent, the venue was dubbed “The Electric Theater.” Admission cost 10 cents for a one-hour show.
► On April 5, 1931, Fox Film Corp. drops John Wayne from its roster of actors. Wayne had played bit parts but failed to impress the studio. In 1939, Wayne fi nally had his breakthrough in “Stagecoach.” He went on to play in dozens of movies, including “True Grit,” for which he won an Oscar in 1969.

• Not only does the yolk contain cholesterol, it also contains the vitamins and minerals that make it a nutritional powerhouse. Egg yolks are one of the few foods with naturally occurring vitamin D. Hard-boiled eggs, like those decorated, hidden and hunted at Easter, provide about 17 grams of protein. Egg whites are an excellent source of low-fat protein. • Eggs are also a good source of choline, which has been shown to help preserve memory, as well as lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help prevent vision loss. Nutritionists say that eggs can help with weight management, eye health, muscle strength, brain functions and are valuable for healthy pregnancies. • Easter eggs and the Easter bunny are considered symbols of new life and rebirth. Ancient cultures like the Persians, Hindus and Egyptians believed the world started as a large egg. • The new life symbolism was probably the association that made way for the Easter Bunny. Rabbits, like eggs, have always been associated with birth and fertility. • The legend of the Easter Bunny had its start in Germany. The story goes that a poor woman living in Germany decorated eggs to hide and be hunted as entertainment for her children. As soon
as the eggs were found by the children, a large bunny rabbit was seen hopping away! Many stories have been written about the bunny ever since, and children in many places around the world look forward to egg hunts and egg and bunny-shaped candies around Easter. • Many egg hunts now use plastic eggs, often fi lled with candy or toys. Real eggs, if they are used for hunts, need to be handled carefully. • The Egg Safety Center recommends that, “Hard-cooked eggs should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking and used within one week.” Another food authority, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), says Easter eggs are safe to eat after a hunt if you follow some basic guidelines: “Use food-safe coloring to dye the eggs and refrigerate them within two hours of boiling them.” • Since most Easter egg hunts take more than two hours from hiding to fi nding to eating, it is usually best to use the plastic variety.• Other information from the USDA says that boiling an egg removes a naturally occurring protective coating on egg shells that then leaves the shells
vulnerable to bacteria. If any eggs are cracked, they are very susceptible to bacteria as well and should be discarded. • The President and First Lady host the White House Easter Egg Roll every year on the Monday after Easter. The Easter Egg Roll activities were started in the mid-1800s and were originally held at the U.S. Capitol grounds. After years of wear and tear to the lawn, Congress
passed a law in 1876 forbidding the Capitol grounds from being used as a children’s playground. • In 1878, when President Rutherford B. Hayes heard of the law, he issued an offi cial order that any children who showed up at the Capitol grounds for an egg roll should be sent to the White House. Since that time,
successive Presidents have continued the tradition, with the event held on the south lawn of the White House. It has only been cancelled a few times because of bad weather and during World Wars I and II. During the war years, egg rollers still congregated, some at the Washington Monument, the National Zoo and even at the Capitol grounds. (Remember, that was forbidden by law!)
• Pysanky are Ukrainian Easter eggs (Pysanky is plural; the singular is pysanka). Pysanky folk art, where eggs are decorated using beeswax in a wax resist method, is a practice that has been around for thousands of years in Ukraine. Over 10,000 pysanky are displayed in the egg-shaped Pysanka Museum that opened in September 2000 in Kolomyia, Ukraine. • Canada, specifi cally Vegreville, Alberta, is home to the world’s largest pysanka. The area has many Ukrainian immigrants, and the pysanka was chosen as a symbol to honor the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in their centennial year of 1975. • While the Vegreville pysanka is the world’s largest inedible Easter egg, there have been a number of large edible chocolate eggs in recent years. Vying for recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records (GWR), impressive chocolate eggs usually make their debuts at shopping centers. A 14,197-pound, 12-ounce (6,440-kg) chocolate Easter egg was on display at a shopping center in Sao Jose, Santa Cararina, Brazil on April 3, 2010. • Last year, that one was beaten out for the title by an even larger egg displayed at a shopping center in Cortenuova, Italy. According to GWR, it weighed an impressive 15,873 pounds (7,200 kg). Now that is a lot of chocolate — and not quite as healthy as a real egg!

■ “I had to pick up a bunch of BBs that spilled in our garage. It was very aggravating, until I decided to get out my vacuum. I put a very thin sock (didn’t have any panty hose) on the end and tucked it into the hose. I secured it with a zip tie. I was able to suck up most of the BBs, and they went right back in the container.” -- E.L. in North Carolina
■ Try this trick to increase the volume on your iPod (without earbuds, that is): Place it in a deep bowl. The bowl amplifi es and directs the sound.■ Chrome is easily cleaned and shined up with vinegar. Keep a misting bottle in the bathroom to give handles a quick swipe after getting ready in the morning or evening.■ Need to hull strawberries? Try using a straw. Position the straw at the bottom of the strawberry, then push up toward the stem. It works quickly and well.■ If your entertainment electronics have a clock that is too bright, cover it with plain tape. You’ll still be able to read the time, but the tape will lessen the glare.■ If new denims are too stiff, add half a cup of salt to the wash water along with your regular detergent.(c) 2012 King Features Synd., Inc.Ant Control - Spread some ground cinnamon where you think the ants are coming in to the house. Basil repels fl ies and mosquitoes. To deter ants, use catnip. Sprinkle it in their paths. Make a mixture of 2/3 cup water, 1/3 cup white vinegar, and 2-3 Tablespoons dish soap. Spray where the ants are marching.
Natural Mosquito Repellents -Splashing plain rubbing alcohol on yourself and allowing it to dry will deter mosquitoes from biting you. Rub Vick’s Vaporub® on your pants and legs to ward off ticks. Use half vanilla (has to be pure vanilla) and half water for a mosquito and tick repellent. Dab lavender oil on your pulse points; it smells great on you but repels insects.
Other Tips - Nail polish remover removes tar and grease from white leather shoes. Clean rope trimmed shoes with a toothbrush dipped in rug shampoo.

● The largest recorded earthquake in the world was a magnitude 9.5 (Mw) in Chile on May 22, 1960. ● The earliest reported earthquake in California was felt in 1769 by the exploring expedition of Gaspar de Portola while the group was camping about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles. ● The average rate of motion across the San Andreas Fault Zone during the past 3 million years is 2 in/yr. This is about the same rate at which your fi ngernails grow. Assuming this rate continues, scientists project that Los Angeles and San Francisco will be adjacent to one another in approximately 15 million years. ● The East African Rift System is a 31-37 mile wide zone of active volcanics and faulting that extends north-south in eastern Africa for more than 1864 miles from Ethiopia in the north to Zambezi in the south. It is a rare example of an active continental rift zone, where a continental plate is attempting to split into two plates which are moving away from one another. ● The fi rst “pendulum seismoscope” to measure the shaking of the ground during an earthquake was developed in 1751, and it wasn’t until 1855 that faults were recognized as the source of earthquakes. ● Moonquakes (“earthquakes” on the moon) do occur, but they happen less frequently and have smaller magnitudes than earthquakes on the Earth. It appears they are related to the tidal stresses associated with the varying distance between the Earth and Moon. They also occur at great depth, about halfway between the surface and the center of the moon. ● Although both are sea waves, a tsunami and a tidal wave are two different unrelated phenomenona. A tidal wave is a shallow water wave caused by the gravitational interactions between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. A tsunami is a sea wave caused by an underwater earthquake or landslide (usually triggered by an earthquake) displacing the ocean water. ● The hypocenter of an earthquake is the location beneath the earth’s surface where the rupture of the fault begins. The epicenter of an earthquake is the location directly above the hypocenter on the surface of the earth. ● The world’s greatest land mountain range is the Himalaya-Karakoram. It countains 96 of the world’s 109 peaks of over 24,000 ft. The longest range is the Andes of South America which is 4700 miles in length. Both were created by the movement of tectonic plates. ● It is estimated that there are 500,000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year. 100,000 of those can be felt, and 100 of them cause damage. ● A seiche (pronounced SAYSH) is what happens in the swimming pools of Californians during and after an earthquake. It is “an internal wave oscillating in a body of water” or, in other words, it is the sloshing of
the water in your swimming pool, or any body of water, caused by the ground shaking in an earthquake. It may continue for a few moments or hours, long after the generating force is gone. A seiche can also be caused by wind or tides. ● Each year the southern California area has about 10,000 earthquakes. Most of them are so small that they are not felt. Only several hundred are greater than magnitude 3.0, and only about 15-20 are greater than magnitude 4.0. If there is a large earthquake, however, the aftershock sequence will produce many more earthquakes of all magnitudes for many months. ● The magnitude of an earthquake is a measured value of the earthquake size. The magnitude is the same no matter where you are, or how strong or weak the shaking was in various locations. The intensity of an earthquake is a measure of the shaking created by the earthquake, and this value does vary with location. ● The Wasatch Range, with its outstanding ski areas, runs North-South through Utah, and like all mountain ranges it was produced by a series of earthquakes. The 240-mile-long Wasatch Fault is made up of several segments, each capable of producing up to a M7.5 earthquake. During the past 6,000 years, there has been a M6.5+ about once every 350 years, and it has been about 350 years since the last powerful earthquake, which was on the Nephi segment. ● From 1975-1995 there were only four states that did not have any earthquakes. They were: Florida, Iowa, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. ● The core of the earth was the fi rst internal structural element to be identifi ed. In 1906 R.D. Oldham discovered it from his studies of earthquake records. The inner core is solid, and the outer core is liquid and so does not transmit the shear wave energy released during an earthquake. ● The swimming pool at the University of Arizona in Tucson lost water from sloshing (seiche) caused by the 1985 M8.1 Michoacan, Mexico earthquake 1240 miles away. ● Earthquakes occur in the central portion of the United States too! Some very powerful earthquakes occurred along the New Madrid fault in the Mississippi Valley in 1811-1812. Because of the crustal structure in the Central US which effi ciently propagates seismic energy, shaking from earthquakes in this part of the country are felt at a much greater distance from the epicenters than similar size quakes in the Western US. ● Most earthquakes occur at depths of less than 50 miles from the Earth’s surface. ● The San Andreas fault is NOT a single, continuous fault, but rather is actually a fault zone made up of many segments. Movement may occur along any of the many fault segments along the zone at any time. The San Andreas fault system is more that 800 miles long, and in some spots is as much as 10 miles deep. ● The world’s deadliest recorded earthquake occurred
in 1556 in central China. It struck a region where most people lived in caves carved from soft rock. These dwellings collapsed during the earthquake, killing an estimated 830,000 people. In 1976 another deadly earthquake struck in Tangshan, China, where more than 250,000 people were killed. ● Florida and North Dakota have the smallest number of earthquakes in the United States. ● Alaska is the most earthquake-prone state and one of the most seismically active regions in the world. Alaska experiences a magnitude 7 earthquake almost every year, and a magnitude 8 or greater earthquake on average every 14 years. ● The earliest recorded evidence of an earthquake has been traced back to 1831 BC in the Shandong province of China, but there is a fairly complete record starting in 780 BC during the Zhou Dynasty in China. ● It was recognized as early as 350 BC by the Greek scientist Aristotle that soft ground shakes more than hard rock in an earthquake. ● Human beings can detect sounds in the frequency range 20-20,000 Hertz. If a P wave refracts out of the rock surface into the air, and it has a frequency in the audible range, it will be heard as a rumble. Most earthquake waves have a frequency of less than 20 Hz, so the waves themselves are usually not heard. Most of the rumbling noise heard during an earthquake is the building and its contents moving. ● When the Chilean earthquake occurred in 1960, seismographs recorded seismic waves that traveled all around the Earth. These seismic waves shook the entire earth for many days! This phenomenon is called the free oscillation of the Earth. ● The interior of Antarctica has icequakes which, although they are much smaller, are perhaps more frequent than earthquakes in Antarctica. The icequakes are similar to earthquakes, but occur within the ice sheet itself instead of the land underneath the ice. Some of our polar observers have told us they can hear the icequakes and see them on the South Pole seismograph station, but they are much too small to be seen on enough stations to obtain a location.

FAMOUS LANDMARKSCAPITOL RECORDS BUILDING
In the middle of Hollywood, near the famed intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, sits a building like no other in Los An-geles County. Seen from above, it’s the one structure that could pass for an alien installation in some futuristic metropolis. Thirteen stories of architectural innovation with a long white spire sitting atop, it’s the Capitol Records Building, also known as the Capitol Records Tower or Capitol Tower. • The Capitol Records Building was the world’s fi rst circular offi ce building. The remarkable structure was the brainchild of designers Welton Becket and Louis Naidorf, and it has been described by the Los Angeles Times as ranking “among the dozen or so best-known landmarks in all of Southern California.” Created as a mixed-use building, the Capitol Tower is less than a 150 feet tall. * Many have suggested that the building’s re-semblance to a stack of records was by de-sign, but it was actually a happy accident. The shape was actually a response to the problem of available space created by earth-quake regulations that limited the structure’s height. The shape allowed designers to max-imize the number and size of offi ces availa-ble within its walls, and the circular shape resulted in considerably lower energy costs. * There is a blinking red light that adorns the building’s spire. Though one could assume its signifi cance lies merely as a signal to low-fl ying aircraft, it actually blinks the word “Hollywood” in Morse Code. In fact, the light’s initial activation on April 6, 1956, was conducted by the granddaughter of Samuel Morse (for whom Morse Code is named), Leila.* This message has changed only once in the building’s 55-year history. This occurred in 1992, when the message was altered to read “Capitol 50,” refl ecting the record compa-
ny’s 50th year in business. In September of this year, the normally white spire atop the building was lit blue at night, as part of “Blue September,” a month raising awareness about the importance of early detection in preventing prostate cancer. * The fi rst recording made in the Capitol Records Building was actually a series of in-strumentals entitled “Frank Sinatra Conducts Tone Poems of Color.” Since then, the tower has been the artistic home of such musical icons as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Tina Turner, Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitt and the aforementioned “Chairman of the Board” Frank Sinatra. * The 13 circular fl oors of the building sit on a square base. At the base’s southern face, one can view a large mural created by artist Richard Wyatt entitled “Hollywood Jazz.” Among the fanciful portraits found there are titans of jazz and blues including Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Nat King Cole. The latter is even rumored to be responsible for suggesting the building’s singular shape. The past two decades haven’t been kind to the mural, as it has faded considerably. Yet it remains a beautiful testimony to our rich musical past.
