Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome
Welcome to the new format of our newsletter. We have made this change to make
reading the newsletter easier for those people using phones or tablets. I hope it
works for you.
Thank You Parents and Carers
Thank you for your ongoing support in dropping off and picking up students. Your
children have matured greatly in getting themselves to and from class and organised
for the day.
Pupil Free Days
As usual the first day of Term 3 will again be a Pupil Free Day. With all the issues
raised during the Covid-19 lockdown, the Department appointed an additional Pupil
free Day to schools. Therefore, both Monday the 20th July and Tuesday the 21st July
in Term 3 will be pupil free days. Students commence on Wednesday the 22nd of
July 2020.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Our school will be busy with NAIDOC activities the first week back of Term 3,
Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th July. This year’s theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ and
recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years and are
spiritually and culturally connected to this country. Australia was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first
engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first
astronomers and first artists. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true
history of this country – a history which dates back thousands of generations.
We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet
and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded.
School Board
We have a position available for a parent membership on the School Board. The School Board generally meets
one afternoon each term and reviews the school’s Business Plan, associated budgets, results of data collection
and other areas. If you are interested, please ask for additional information or put forward your name to the
school office.
I congratulate Mr Ken Inman who has been unanimously elected as our new School Board Chair for 2020. Ken has
been a valuable member of our board for the last few years. On behalf of the community, I congratulate and thank
Ken for his continued wonderful contribution to our school.

CROSS COUNTRY – WEDNESDAY, 24th JUNE 2020
Cross Country will be held for Years 1-6 on Wednesday the 24th June, weather permitting.
Due to the current CoVid restrictions, parents will be unable to attend the event. Please
remember to send your child in their faction shirt, hat and drink bottle on the day.
STEM WEBSITE LAUNCH
A new website has been launched to inform students, parents and teachers about
STEM. It can be found at https://www.take2stem.wa.gov.au/index.html.
Brookman is a leading school in STEM and when restrictions ease, we will have
visiting teachers back on site to showcase our programs.
SWIMMING LESSONS
With the easing of restrictions, we are still hoping to go ahead with swimming in
Term 3, during weeks 5 and 6. At the end of this term we will be sending out
notices and payment options that will be required by the end of week 1 on the
24th July. Swimming lessons are for all students from PP to Year 6. The costs are
based on pool entry and the bus. There are limited numbers so any forms handed
in after the due date will be placed on a wait list.
C6 – ENTERPRISE FUNDRAISER
Our year 5/6 students had a successful day
implementing their business ideas to raise money for
charity. Thank you to everyone who supported. Over
$250 was raised for the Smith Family a national charity
helping young Australians.
