DEAR SEEKER CHICKS

MPP JIM MCDONELL DISPLEASED WITH NDP SUPPORT OF LIBERAL BUDGET

MPP Jim McDonell was not surprised by the announcement of an NDP-Liberal deal on the provincial budget: “The McGuinty-Wynne Liberals havedemonstrated time and time again that they are desperate to cling to

power at any cost. Whether it is cancelling power plants to save four seats or shutting down theLegislature, there is no limit to the amount of money this Government will spend, as long as itkeeps them in power. Today’s deal with the NDP condemns the Province to more debt while sixhundred thousand Ontarians will wake up tomorrow without a job to go to.”MPP McDonell insists Ontario can and must do better: “The sooner we change course to aGovernment that manages the Province’s finances responsibly, lives within its means andrespects taxpayer’s dollars by ensuring quality health care, education and infrastructure, thesooner Ontario’s recovery can begin. Unlike the Liberals, preoccupied only with buying unionsupport, and the NDPs succumbing to being bought by the Liberals at the expense of ourProvince’s future, the Ontario PCs have outlined a path to job creation, prosperity andaffordable living for all Ontarians.”MPP McDonell highlighted the priorities of an Ontario PC Government: “I remain determined tobuild a government that we can afford and protects the things we value most. We will fight forless spending, an affordable public sector, lower taxes, affordable energy, modernized labourlaws and less regulation. In order to achieve this change and bring accountability back to theGovernment of Ontario, we need to change the team that leads it. Today’s deal enables theLiberals to kick the can down the road while our Province suffers. The people of Ontario deservebetter.”

ONTARIO NDP POSITIONON 2013 ONTARIO BYBRIAN LYNCHDear Seeker,

Andrea Horwath and the Ontario NDPhave made the 2013 Ontario budget

better and fairer for everyday Ontarians and as a result areprepared to support the budget. The NDP has been successfulin having several of its progressive budget proposals includedin the 2013 Ontario budget, namely, jobs for youth, socialassistance reform, a 15% cut to auto insurance rates, and morefunding for home care to reduce wait times. The OntarioGovernment has also accepted the NDP request for greateraccountability in the budget through the creation of anindependent Financial Accountability Office, agreed to moreoversight of healthcare, and promised a full debate andfinancial details before putting forward its road toll plans.Andrea Horwath and the NDP have been driving the agendaat Queen’s Park and getting results that make life fairer, better, and more affordable for everyday people while ensuring thatthe government is accountable. While the budget does notcontain everything that New Democrats put forward, the NDPserves people better when it strives to make the minoritygovernment work to build a prosperous and fairer Ontariorather than chase votes in an early election. It is unfortunate that the Hudak Conservatives are moreinterested in taking a slash and burn approach which will cutessential public services and make Ontario a low wageprovince. The NDP will continue to work in the Ontariolegislature to create and protect good jobs, make lifeaffordable, improve public healthcare and education, providea fairer tax system, and make the Liberal Governmentaccountable for its promises and actions.

Hi Ladies, Guys & Girls,Marlene here. How hasyour week been? Mine hasbeen super busy.Photographing a fourgeneration family thatgathered all the wayfrom B.C, Calgary andthroughout Ontario, aProm/Birthday for a

lovely girl, a new storeopening and a new and up and coming Cornwallband. I am loving this beautiful Spring weather weare having.

I had the privilege to go to the St. Lawrence S.S.~Boombastic Fashion Show.~ It was very well doneand I enjoyed myself immensely. The students andteachers did this show to raise monies for the Cornwall Children'sTreatment Center. Thanks to all who were involved in making this FashionShow a Wonderful Success!

I want to talk about hats this week. Not only is it really important to weara hat to keep the sun's damaging rays off of your head and face, but theycertainly add to your "LOOK!" (like a cherry on top of an icecream sundae.)Hats come in all styles, shapes and sizes, starting from $1 to over a $100 -it is your choice. When choosing a hat you have to first consider what the

hat is going to be used for: a fashion show, a wedding,a birthday party, a prom or just for fun. A sun hat towear with your pretty dresses and Spring/Summeroutfits, (that you purchased for the many Thrift Storeshere in Cornwall.) Giant Tiger which is a Canadianretail store is another "Good Choice" to have whenchoosing affordable, "Fashionable" clothing, shoesand accessories.

The next thing in choosing a hat is the way it looks onyou. You may have to go through many, many hats toget the "perfect one". But when you come across a hatthat emphasizes your face and style, you will be veryhappy. For you more adventurous Girls & Guys... GOCRAZY! Have many Mix & Match looks. A "Hat" couldjust be worn for the Fun of it. (like the many fauxanimal hats worn last winter.) Fashion is FUN -Experiment - Enjoy.

We are still waiting for more photo entries to come in for the Seeker's “Make-Over Contest.”

You know what to do. Send in yours, your family's and or friends "bad fashionlook" photos for a Chance to WIN many Exciting PRIZES!!!

Until next week... Carry a SMILE that Never Fades!

PASSION for FASHION

by Marlene Baker

We've had many people come through ourdoors since October of last year not quitecertain what lasers are and how they workand help with so many ailments. The list ofthings that lasers help with hasmushroomed to include many things you

might not have thought of. 1st of all...thedefinition a "L.A.S.E.R." is that its an acronym for LightAmplification by Stimulation Emission of Radiation. Soundsfancy? Not really! Lasers have been around for much longer thanmost people think. Its what reads your CDs, your DVDs, your laserprinters, laser optics for your communication needs...the list isendless. Lasers have even found themselves useful in theoperating room for brain surgery, cataract surgery, toothwhitening, hair removal, pain relief for arthritis as well assmoking and eating addictions among so many other fieldswithin the health spectrum.

SMOKING CESSATIONNow, its also been found that auriculotherapy (otherwise known as lasertherapy of the auricle) has up to 94% success in the cessation of smokingwhich puts to shame any of the so called "maintream alternatives" thatsimply exchange nicotine consumption from your lungs to your mouth orpatches. The bottom line is that nicotine is a toxin and you should not beconsuming it at all whether its via your lungs of your skin.Auriculotherapy is similar yet different than acupuncture. Acupunctureuses needles on pressure points of the ear whereas auriculotherapy useselectrical impulses (via laser) on the outer aspect of the ear, around themouth and hands. Each pressure point is stimulated for about 30 secondsand the entire procedure only takes about a half hour. So the questionbecomes a simple one. How bad do YOU want to quit? Do you have a halfhour in your "busy" lives to set aside toward resolving this albatrossyou've carried around your neck for so long? If you answered no then wesuggest you stop reading this article. Most, if not all, of you have triedalternatives like nicotine laced gums, transdermal nicotine patches aswell as products like Champix and Zyban which all have addictive

qualities to them yet you never get the problem resolved in any meaningful orpermanent way. Note that auriculotherapy is also very effective for eatingaddictions and best of all its has ZERO side effects and is 100% pain free!

Theseworkshops will teach you the ropes of exactly how laser therapy works to rid youfrom the shackles of the cigarette. You will also learn about the importance ofthe world's most powerful super natural detox products (including magnesium, vitamin C and Chlorella) toward the elimination of the 4,700 toxins found incigarettes that wreak havoc in your body. The sooner you pull out all thosepoisons from your body the sooner any cravings, irritability and insomnia willdisappear. Although most other laser centers only do one session...werecommend you have a minimum of two sessions back to back (at ZERO cost forthe follow up) in the same week to increase your odds of success.

ACHES & PAINSLaser therapy is also very effective for both acute and chronic pain. There's anentire section of our site, www.earthwaylasertherapy.com, dedicated to thereader to better understand how it reduces swelling at the mitochondrial levelof the cells of the body. In addition, our laser is the ONLY one approved by theOlympic Training Committee and has been used by many NFL teams includingthe New England Patriots superbowl champions. Despite all the many accoladesby the media, the scientific community, the sports world that this machine hasgarnered...we believe people should choose trying it for one simple reason!Because it works! He was living in Calgary and Ihad heard some of his music online andreached out to him to send me some thingsto try and work together. We did that forabout a year sending tracks back and forthonline. Eventually Jason and his familydecided to move back to Cornwall and wegot together to start the process of puttinga band together. We recorded into the latehours of the evening at a local school whiletrying to get the right mix of people for theband. We went through a few different lineups with some great musicians who becauseof work commitments couldn't remain withus. Finally we found Scott Reasbeck as a freeagent from another band and he joined ussettling in beside Jason on guitars and theycompliment each other very well. Then wefound bassist David Allen through a mutual

friend and finallyto solidify ourrhythm section,Scott suggested aformer band-matein Kirk Wallaceand SwitchGearwas a solid five. The band namewas somethingthat Jason hadused in Calgary. At first he wasn'tsure it was thename for us but Icouldn't keep thename out of myhead. Justsomething about

the name that stood out for me andeventually Jason said yes that's our name. The concept of the band was hard to mapout at first since all of us in the band comefrom a heavier rock influence, but we wantedto be different and from my experience withKaraoke. I noticed a huge shift in countrymusic especially newer country with it's rockinfluenced guitars and thought that wouldbe a great fit for us. I had seen he popularityof the genre explode and so this is what wedecided the avenue for us to go. We alsonoticed that locally especially nobody elsewas doing this type of stuff.

2 – Switchgear's song "No Love" was broadcaston the television show "All for Nothing" andappeared on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Tellus the story behind all that. The Oprah thing was just perfect timing forus. I had a friend from High School, AlCharbonneau, who contacted me about thisshow his friend Christine Giroux wasparticipating in for the W network and Oprahnetwork. He thought our band would beperfect to help raise the most money for her. They had asked local tavern La Maison forthe venue and we agreed to play, giving herthe proceeds from the door along withraffles and other things. We were told thecrew from the show All or Nothing would bethere filming but had no visions of evermaking it on the actual TV show. The nightof the filming La Maison was at full capacityall night, and the night was a great success.Christine ended up winning the show and onthe night of airing we sat down to watch theshow, and in an unreal experience there wewere - SwitchGear on national TV! Needlessto say I was doing quite the couch dance. Itwas one of the highlights for us as a band inthe last year and a half of being a band.

3 – What is creative process behind writing aSwitchgear song? Furthermore what was theconcept behind your first album?

The creative process in writing a Switchgearsong is pretty simple actually. Jason usuallywrites all the music and a lot of the lyrics, and I help with the hooks a phrasing. Thefirst album was a lot of work on Jason's partbecause he had a lot of stuff written beforehe got here. So we got together and workedon them long hours to get them to fit intothe Switchgear sound. We usually start witha guitar track and then build the songaround that. I would describe our sound asnew country with rock guitars. Our concept

for our debut album was to write reallycatchy tunes, solid riffs and heartfelt lyrics. The album has some really fun songs likeWith Her Boots On and Country in the Citysome really good anthems like Oh What AFeeling and No Love, and some powerfulballads like One More Kiss and even a nod toold country with the song Gypsy Smile. Onthe follow up album the whole band isgetting involved in the writing process andso far the songs are coming along really well. Our first single from it is titled Tanlines. Ithink this is going to be a fun song peoplewill really enjoy.

4 – Your band has played a series of charitygigs, including a spaghetti dinner for the AgapeCentre, and a fundraiser to help a local personget an MS procedure. There are a lot ofgenerous bands in town who give back to thecommunity. What are your thoughts on playingcharity concerts?Charity shows are very important to us. Wewish we could say yes to every one thatcomes along, but sometimes bookings don'tallow us to do that. The Rock for Charityshows mean a lot to us so we try to do asmany as we can. The Agape is anotherimportant organization in our City that wereally wanted to help with. I really believethat the musical community in Cornwall cando amazing things together when we joinforces. It amazes me the level of high qualitytalent this City has musically. I've had thepleasure to play in bands with some amazingmusicians and jam with a ton more.SwitchGear tries to help out as much as wecan allot our time to these causes. Any waythat us and all other local bands and artistscan do to get together and help raise moneyfor charities I'm positive we will do. Thecaring musicians have for our City and forcharity is undeniable.

5 – In the Fall of 2012 Switchgear released themusic video "With Her Boots On!". Tell us thestory about creating that music video. The concept for our video for "With HerBoots On" was a joint effort with us and ourdirector Shaun Ryan of Playmaker Studios. We wanted to have a video that had someelements of what it's like to be at aSwitchGear show, plus we wanted to havesome Cornwall landmarks in the video as away of saying thanks to the City for being sogreat to us and being very proud of beingfrom Cornwall. So in the video you see somefans going out to a club and being a littlebored of it when they get a text saying aSwitchgear show is happening at a barnparty. So they hop in the car and drivethrough the City to get to the show and whatensues is a great night of dancing and fun.We had a great time doing the video but itwas a very new experience for us and tookgetting used to especially doing take aftertake. We are doing the storyboard for ournext two videos which will be filmed thissummer.

Thank you for this interview Jamie Jarvo. I hopeyou and the band Switchgear have an amazingand rocking summer!

Scottish oatcakes are probably our families favourite cookie.I have been making them for over 40 years. The recipeoriginally came from Margo Oliver's column from theMontreal Star. It is a simple recipe with few ingredients. Thetrick is to roll out the cookie dough as thinly as possible forthe most tender and crisp cookie ever! If you try this recipe, you will be forever hooked to make them. Many mornings, when our daughters werestill at home, I would start baking this recipe at 6 am for their breakfast. It is that good! Try it!

SCOTTISH OATCAKESINGREDIENTS:

3 cups unbleached all purpose flour1- 1/2 cups white sugar2 level tsp. fine salt1 lb. Crisco shortening (don't use butter)

SCOTTISH OATCAKES SCOTTISH OATCAKES FROM M

Y PANTRY

by Sharyn Thompson

METHOD:-Combine the flour, sugar, salt and rolled oats in a large bowl.-Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until it resembles a pie dough, with small pieces of shortening nolarger than peas. I use a pastry blender to do this.-Add the cold water, mixing as you do this. You must have enough cold water to hold the dough together, butyou don't want the dough to be wet. I squeeze a chunk of it in my hand to see if it holds together.-Flour your counter top- I use my marble pastry board and I place a rolling pin cover over my rolling pin. Thisis such a great help when rolling pie or cookie dough. You use way less flour and therefore, your dough will bemore tender. (we carry a pastry cloth and rolling pin cover at Sharyn's Pantry)-Take a hunk of the dough. Pat it down and lightly flour the dough. Flour your rolling pin cover if you have oneor just your rolling pin. Roll the dough as thinly as possible. About 1/8" thick.-Cut it into squares about 3" x3". With an egg lifter, gently lift the squares of oatcakes onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Continue rolling and cutting.-Bake the trays of oatcakes in a 350 degree F. oven until lightly browned, about 8 to 10 minutes.-Allow the oatcakes to cool on the cookie sheets for a few minutes before lifting them to wire cooling racks to cool completely.-I know you will just love this recipe! Pour yourself a nice cup of tea or a cold glass of milk. ENJOY!

PiecesLast week I experienced what felt like the 4 seasons, inthe span of a day. The morning started off withtorrential rain, then as the rain tapered off it was cool;in no time the temperature increased and it was warmand sunny, so much that I ended up with a sunburn. As the afternoon progressed the temperaturedropped severely that goose bumps, trembling and

teeth chattering occurred. I joked that all we neededwas some hail or snow to cap off the day, and the next morning near Kingstonthey did have it. Layers are the key with our unpredictable weather, and nomatter how prepared I think I am, it seems I always have some element missing.

With frequent travel, this is more problematic that I have decided to create anall season travel bag that I will keep in my car. We're Canadian so better beprepared under any circumstances. Of course trying to be stylish while battlingthe elements and that travellers’ fatigue can be daunting but unpredictableweather is what we grew up with and so we cope, some days better thanothers. One thing for sure, the weather especially inclement weather, takes usback. We remember snow storms, blazing heat, and the people and eventssurrounding them.kr

I returned to Cornwall again yesterday for work purposes and when I hitthe 401 to make my way back to my hometown, it is always bittersweet.I was planning my column this week and was thinking about howpeople influence your life, both in good ways and bad ways, they take apiece of you and you leave a little piece of yourself with them. As I wasdriving, a song came on the radio and it reflected the essence of what Iwas feeling. “Pieces” by Gary Allan is bang on. Pieces of my heart, piecesof my soul...everything I took for them made me who I am. As I approachmy home town there is a huge part of me left behind, I remember familytimes, times spent with friends, former clients, former projects, events, times of joy, times of sorrow and everything in between. Through all thestruggles, I became stronger, smarter, a little cautious and brave. Idiscovered talents I didn’t know I had, I grew as a person and a memberof the community, I was connected on so many levels and I think that iswhy it resonates with me.

So Cornwall will always have a big piece of my heart and slowly I amforging connections in Kingston and beyond. Even when things do notgo as planned and disappointments ensue, all of those hurdles, missedopportunities, all the positives and negatives make you who you are.Embrace them and the beautiful collage it creates.

SEEKING THE ARTS • SEEKING THE ARTSArt, Religion and Spirituality- Part 2Are we truly free to express ourselves?

In answer to my call to give feedback, Artist DanBurgess, offered this comment:

“ I share my work around the world and be it witha Buddhist, Sikh, Muslim or Christian, they are all

artists without borders and with the scope and vision to see beyondmodernization. We each have our own faith and our spiritual needs andare allowed to express them freely amongst ourselves with never somuch as a question”

Dan is right about one thing perhaps for the first time in history themodern artist is finally free to express themselves any way they wish butonly in the Western culture. There are still many countries where art iscensored for subject and overall message. Countries such as Iran, Chinaand in some cases India are still persecuting Artists who dare to speak outon religion and politics. In Iran woman artists are forbidden for simplybeing a woman many now living in the Western world are writing andpainting amazing testaments to the unfair treatment of women in thename of the Koran. In our western culture, although Women are no longerforbidden to be Artists which was true up until the mid 1900’s, we stillstruggle with the lack of importance attached to some forms of Female artsuch as Visual Art.

Where the Artist is free to express their particular views on religion there isno end to the diverse work as each expression is as unique as the Artistcreating it. I have recently been introduced to Music and Literature thathas roots in the Hindu and Buddhist philosophy; this art is rich and earthywhile at the same time keeping with the modern feel. Many Christianartists are also bringing new life and colour to their work, gone are thestoic paintings of the renaissance with stern faced figures from the Bibleand the colourless hymns from our childhood.

One question I do have is what about the Art that doesn’t agree withreligion or shows it in a slightly negative light; is that accepted or is itcensored in the arena of public opinion? Think about the stir movies suchas “The Secret” and “The Passion of Christ” created. If you are old enoughto remember Madonna’s sexual overtones while wearing a Crucifix you willknow the negative feedback she received. Last year I wanted to displayone of my Paintings called the Gathering, because some people sawimages that they thought were Satanic or a group of Witches, I wasdiscouraged. The truth is others saw Jesus and his disciples, everyone waswrong by the way it was just a group of friends inviting others to join them.

Has your work been censored for being too for or against your personalSpiritual beliefs? If so I want to know. Next week I want to look at how our Art feedsour Soul and welcome your thoughts on that topic as well.

Children are naturally creative. I know this, because I asked. I asked my class, an equalmix of boys and girls, who are all 10 and 11years old, if they were creative. Before wecould even discuss what creativity meant,or what it could be, they all put theirnames under the “Yes” column.

I think that this is beautiful. To seeyourself as creative is the best way tosimply be creative. Our talk afterward

covered so many ways to be creative: throughsports, in music, dance, painting, drawing, writing, solvingscience and math problems, and even thinking. As one studentwrote, “Even thinking is creative, and I’m sure everyone canthink.”

Encouraging andfostering creativity inyoung children is, inmy opinion, anecessary thing. Withthe open, creativemind of a youngperson, anyone canhave a positiveexperience withmath, science, languages, socialinteractions, andmore or less, everyaspect of life. Iasked the kids ifbeing creative wasimportant, and ifthey felt everyone was creative, and they all agreed that it was

both important andnatural. If we canfoster creativity at ayoung age, we canhave a greatersuccess rate asmembers of theworld – in our jobs,at home, with ourrelationships, andfor the highlyfocused Creative, inthe arts.

So how do we dothis?

Sketching, drawing, painting, scribbling… on largesurfaces, or small

ones, or medium ones – different sizes force themind to think creatively: “How will I cover this?” is a great question!Dancing, jumping, playing, singing, yelling, screaming in strange voices, dressing up and playing some more, and engaging with our young asthough it is totally, absolutely the normal thing to do. Playing with ourfood, drawing on the fridge (dry erase markers go perfectly on glasstables, white fridges, and windows), and getting down and dirty in theearth. Plant a garden, pick a flower and live life by appreciatingsomething fun and beautiful every single day.

Talk about being creative. Own the art that is made. Ask questions. Ouhand ahh over the creative “stuff” that is being produced. Ask your child tochoose their favourite piece of art every so often, and talk about why theylove it. Then, tell them why you love it.

Children are naturally creative. It’s our job as the big kids in the world tofoster and elongate that creativity, for a lifetime of confidence as acreative person.

The Beginning is NearIn a coaching session recently with one of myclients, we discussed her future. After retiringthree years ago and taking time to consider her

options for the rest of her life, she was now prepared to look at what’snext. As with many of my clients, when the conversation begins, there is alot of spinning, considering the endless possibilities. Clarity can be elusive. This is where coaching comes in, the opportunity to narrow the field and toidentify what it is that really ‘lights’ you up.

Following our conversation, my client left for another meeting. I remindedher to watch for the SIGNS. Later that day I received an e-mail from her withthe following, “I left your place remembering what you said. When I walkedI to my next appointment, I saw this sign, “The Beginning is Near”.Now isn’tthat a roadSIGN!”

I loved it. That is how it works. The Universe is always on your side, feedingyou information constantly. The question is, are you paying attention.

My client that day was on high alert, swimming in the conversation of whatshe wants to attract and create in her life. The message The Beginning isNear seemed so appropriate.

SIGN SpottingSIGNS for me have always represented those Significant Insightful Gold

Nuggets informing my Spirit. SIGNS may not be actual signs as my client experienced;they show up in many forms from an interview on the radio, a morning horoscope, amessage from a friend, a posting of Facebook, something or someone crossing yourpath. Life is full of meaning; we are unfortunately, for the most part, oblivious to whatis there.

SIGN spotting requires living consciously, getting away from living life on autopilotwhich most of us do, and becoming more mindful and aware of what is going onaround us. This is a challenge in the fast paced world we live is so yes, it does meanslowing down a bit, noticing more, asking more questions, reflection and sometimes, simply breathing.

roadSIGNSby Betty Healey

Look at it this way. Your life and manifesting what it is you want, is the mostsignificant project you will ever take on. As with any project, it needs to beplanned. You need to determine what it is that you desire as you look downthe road. We call these intentions, naming what you want. Again, as withany project, you require data. This is where SIGNS come in – the angelwhispers offered to you by Source, or the Universe, whatever you call youhigher power, telling you whether or not you are on the right path, givingyou support and encouragement, confirming the path you have chosen, and occasionally challenging you to change directions.

Heavenly FaxesMy friend Larry Snow in Colorado calls his SIGNS heavenly faxes andbecause Colorado has a lot of personalized license plates, cars are his typicalSIGN spotting opportunity. After divorcing his wife of seventeen years, andthen through therapy giving himself time to heal, Larry found himselfattracted to another woman. He was however, reticent to get involved eventhough he knew that Margie was special and potentially the one.

As he considered the past, he found himself behind a green mustang withthe license plate LET GO. As Larry said, this caused him to chuckle. A fewdays later as he was considering his nest steps with Largie, he pulls upbehind a Nebraska car with the plate 1 TO GO 4.

There was no turning back, the SIGNS in his life were definitely feeding himdata. The final SIGN happened a few weeks later, when Larry againhesitated. In his words, “As I looked left before merging into the morningrush-hour traffic, I noticed a blue Volvo cresting the hill on SouthWadsworth Boulevard — beneath the snowcapped mountain backdropits green vanity plate stated simply and succinctly: MARGIE.”

Final WordWhether you call them SIGNS, angel whispers, or heavenly faxes, you haveaccess to more information than you can possibly imagine. It’s a simplechoice: wake up to your life and become aware of what is going on aroundyou. The beginning is near!

Thursday morning, a facebook post grabbed my attention. Itwas the picture of a perfect cannoli, a golden, crunchypastry stuffed with white, creamy goodness, laying there ona pan, ready for the taking. And the best part was thatthese cannolis were made and advertised by Love LoveFood, a local company. Unlike their New York Citycounterpart, which I never, ever fail to stock up on whenvisiting the Big Apple, these cannolis were within reach.Alleluia!

I had to get a printing quote from the wonderful MarnieMcKinney at our local UPS Store,so it was the perfect excuse totake a wrong turn and end upon Fourth near Pitt where LoveLove Food has shop.

Entering Love Love Food waslike stepping into a culinaryheaven. From rubs tohomemade jams and spreads tovarious cooking utensils, LoveLove Food could cater to thefinest of palates. Gourmet and

wannabe gourmet chefs will surely find specialty items to experiment with.

I had very little time, but took a good glimpse at what was around me and I was sold.Love Love Food will definitely see me again. Sad for me, the cannolis were sold outby the time I got there, but that didn't stop me from satisfying my sugar addiction.I opted for a yummy Reese's peanut butter chocolate Cupcake that was, I'm sure, just as decadent as a cannoli.

Help Yourself Reduce Investment StressWe all know that stress can have many adverse affects on our lives andcan affect the quality of our health. Cutting out stressors, including inyour investment activities can have a positive affect. But how can youcut down on the various stresses associated with investing?

Here are a few possible “stress-busters”:

KNOW YOUR RISK TOLERANCE. If you’re constantly worryingabout the value of your investments, your portfolio may simply be

too volatile for your individual risk tolerance. Conversely, if you’realways feeling that your investments will never provide you with the growth you need toachieve your long-term goals, you might be investing too conservatively.

KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR INVESTMENTS. Uncertainty is often a leading causeof stress. So when you purchase investments that are mysterious to you, you shouldn’t besurprised if they perform in ways that raise your stress levels. Never invest in somethingunless you fully understand its characteristics and risk potential.

BE PREPARED FOR MARKET VOLATILITY. Historically, the financial markets havetrended upward, though their past performance can’t guarantee future results. Yet forperiods of months, and even years, these same markets can sputter and decline. Sowhen you invest, be aware of this volatility; if you’re prepared for it, you won’t beshocked when it happens, and you should be able to better keep stress at bay.

MAINTAIN REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. If you think your investments are going toearn a very high rate of return, year after year, you are more than likely going to bedisappointed — and you could easily get “stressed out.” You’re much better off, from a

stress standpoint, not to expect eye-poppingresults.

DIVERSIFY YOUR PORTFOLIO. If youwere only to own one asset class, such asgrowth stocks, and that particularsegment took a big hit during a marketdrop, your whole portfolio could suffer, and it could take years to recover —causing you no end of stress. But if youspread your investment dollars among arange of vehicles — stocks, bonds, government securities and so on — yourportfolio has a better chance ofweathering the ups and downs of themarket. (Keep in mind, though, that whilediversification may help you reduce theeffects of volatility, it can’t prevent lossesor guarantee profits.)

THINK LONG TERM. If you only measureyour investment success by short-termresults, you can feel frustrated andstressed. But when you stop to consideryour objectives, you may find that themost important ones, such as acomfortable retirement, are all long-termin nature. Consequently, it makes moresense to measure the progress you’re

making with your investments in periods of years, oreven decades, rather than days or months. Instead offretting over your monthly investment statements, compare where you are today versus where you were 10or 15 years ago. The results may well surprise and help“de-stress” you.

By making the right moves for you, you can help takesome of the stress out of investing for a long time tocome.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow at theFarmers Market (The Brick Parking),

with a smile!!!

I was very pleased last week tohost my first 3 day juicingcleanse workshop. A greatgroup of participants showed methat this is for sure a need andmany want to learn how todetoxify and give back to

their bodies the natural way. This really makes me feel that what Ioffer is appreciated by the community. Individuals that take thetime to invest in themselves and realize that they matter are aheadof the game for sure. Once the first step is made , you realize that itis not that scary and it actually tastes good, you are well on yourway to living your best life ever!!!

When it is this cool, I always love to make a nice, hearty soup. Agreat way to make an amazing, satisfying soup is to place 1Tablespoon of coconut oil in a cooking pot, stir fry all your favorite

vegetables, add vegetable broth, bring this to a boil, uncovered for 10minutes, reduce heat, cover and let it simmer for 1 hour. Once it has cooledoff, place it in your food processor and you will have the best cream soupever. This soup will already be broken down for you, gives your intestines abreak and you will have all of the amazing nutrients in your body. So easyand delicious…

I am very fortunate to have great rhubarb in my garden. Rhubarb crisp is

one of my favorite recipes, I justfind that it is so delicious andquick to prepare. Place 4 cupsof washed and choppedrhubarb in the bottom of an8x8 dish. Add 2 cups of fresh, washed and diced strawberriesto this. Drizzle 2 Tablespoons ofmaple syrup over this, you mayalso add dried raisins at thispoint (adds natural sweetness,

rhubarb is tart). In another bowl mix together 2 cups rolled oats, 1/2 cupcane sugar, 2 Tablespoons organic flour. To this add 4-5 Tablespoons of coldbutter (cut into large chunks), blend all of these ingredients with a fork oryour hands. Spread on top of rhubarb mixture, place in a 350 oven for 45min to 1 hour. This is delicious served warm on its own or with a spoonfulof plain natural organic yogurt.

Hope you give these recipes a try, I promise you will not regret it….

In health….

On Tuesday night, the CornwallDirt Raceway Park (the new name for the Kart Track at the CornwallMotor Speedway) got its 2013 racing season under way.

After Mother Nature prevented last week's scheduled opener from takingplace, a good crowd of anxious racers were there to commence theirsummer campaign. In addition to the regular band of Karters and Lawn

tractors, a new division was makingits debut. For the firsttime anywhere, dirtracing's latest thing, theV Twin DIRT DEMONS(bottom right) were outon the track. Winningthe historic first everrace was local driver Ron Bovin (photo left).

A weekly look at racingfrom both sides of the 1000 Islands

This past weekend didn’t go quite theway I had hoped it would. Rain was thedetermining factor of the weekend, with

Mohawk International Raceway and CornwallSpeedway both falling victim to Mother Nature. Brockville Speedwaywas able to get their program in, but they had to deal with weatherissues as well throughout the evening.

The rain from Thursday night lasted well into Friday morning.Brewerton Speedway was one of the first to cancel, and Chapman’sCan Am Motorsports Park soon followed. My original destination ofchoice was Mohawk International Raceway, and they too were forcedto cancel just before noon on Friday, In fact, virtually every race trackthroughout the northeast had to cancel, with the exception of trackslocated in the western part of Ontario and New York State.

The rain had finally stopped, and Saturday was a better day.Brockville Ontario Speedway was on my schedule, with their regularweekly program, plus the Ford Dingwall Vintage Modified Series. Inthe Modified division, Lee Gill took home the feature win, making itthree different winners after three events. Pat O’Brien finishedsecond, Ryan Arbuthnot had a great run finishing in third place, withLuke Whitteker and Bobby Herrington rounding out the top five. While the Modifieds have had different winners each week, the samecant be said for the Sportsman division as Shane Pecore has had the

field covered in all three events this year. He had to come from an 18th placestarting spot this week and passed former champions Chris Herbison andDylan Evoy to get the win. Evoy and Herbison finished second and thirdrespectively, while Bruce Makinson and Steve Barber completed the top five.Other winners on the night include Aaron Pugh in the Rookie Sportsman forthe third week, which now moves him into the regular Sportsman class. JohnGifford won the Street Stock feature, Bob Ray took home the win in the Rookieclass and Pete Stapper was victorious in the Ford Dingwall Vintage Modifieddivision.

Sunday eventually turned out to be a nice day, but all the rain from overnighton Saturday in the Cornwall area and more rain on Sunday forced track officialsto cancel their program. They have now revised their schedule once again, witha huge show planned for this Sunday. The 100 lap Canadian Nationals Seriesevent will highlight the program, and will be joined by the already scheduledMr. DIRTcar Sportsman series race and Mr. DIRTcar/Mohawk Race Parts ProStock Series. The Semi Pro and Mini Stock classes will not be on the schedulefor June 2nd, but instead will run double features on June 9th.

I do have to give a big shout out to Matt Billings and the Billings Motorsportsteam of Brockville. They have been racing weekly at Canandaigua MotorsportsPark this season, and have been impressive over the first few weeks of theseason. This past Saturday night, Billings finished with a great second place run, against some of the all time best Modified drivers in the business.

This coming weekend, I plan to return to Mohawk International Raceway onFriday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and Cornwall Speedwayon Sunday. Hopefully Mother Nature will give us a break, and we will have anice and dry weekend.

For those of you attending Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, be sure tostop by the Finish Line Web Design merchandise trailer. We have new stockcoming in regularly. You can purchase Finish Line Web Design t-shirts and hats,Steve Barber “Saturday Night Sheriff” t-shirts, Kitley Motorsports t-shirts, JessicaPower t-shirts, as well as t-shirts for Luke Stewart We also have 1:16 scale Modelcars including Danny and Pat O’Brien cars, spectacular artwork prints fromDonnie Dana’s Doodles, and window decals for many of your favorite BOSdrivers.

BORDER PATROLwith Craig Revelle Boxing can be a very confusing sport. Every time

I believe I’ve taken a step closer to understandingthe sweet science, something new comes up andan explanation is required.

This time, it has to do with success and thatcould mean it becomes more difficult for aboxer to advance their career.

Take for instance the fighter who upset TonyLuis on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights earlier this year.

Jose Hernandez picked up an 8th Rd TKO on Cornwall’s up and comingLuis. Word in boxing circles is that because of that win (and rightfullyso), Hernandez’ asking price has jumped. But he cannot find a dancepartner because he’s proven to be a dangerous opponent for otherboxers on the rise. That makes him a victim of his own success.

Normally, when an athlete proves to be good, the pay days follow butnot so much in this case.

And now, back to Luis. He’s reverted back to a lightweight competitorand kick started his comeback with a unanimous decision over

Maurycy Gojko on a card at Lac Leamy in Gatineau. Many of Luis’ fans wereexpecting a short fight considering Luis’ renewed drive. Instead, they weretreated to the now 16-1 (7ko’s) boxer getting a taste of experimenting withboxing as a lefty. Luis is attempting what very few, but successful boxers cando and that’s earn the ability to go into the ring either as a righty or a lefty. It’sthe next evolution into what continues to be a bright career.

Now, it’s up to Tony’s promoters to find him a solid opponent and that’ll likelyhappen this summer.

Stay tuned.
