Ag Taistil Tríd Ama - Time Travelling

D'imigh páistí ó nGaelscoil Éadain Mhóir i nDoire ar thuras trí am agus is iad seo na griangraif agus scéalta a bhí acu ar fhilleadh dóibh.

Children from Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir in Derry went time travelling, and these are the photographs and stories they returned with.

An próiseas – the process

Is tionscadal ealaíon ildisciplíneach é ATTA a raibh 25 pháiste páirteach ann ó rang 5-6 i nGÉM i dTobar an Fhíoruisce i nDoire.

ATTA is a multi disciplinary arts project involving 25 children from rang 5-6 in Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóír in the Brandywell in Derry.

Ba é cuspóir ealaíonta an tionscadail ná na rannpháirtithe a spreagadh i dtreo na nglún rompu, a muintire nó áitritheoirí a gcathair dhúchais – ag taisteal trí am trí íomhánna s'acu féin a ionsá i seanghriangraif.

The artistic objective of the project was to encourage the participants to step inside the shoes of previous generations, relatives or occupants of the city they live in, and travel back in time through the physical insertion of their own image into an old photograph.

Ar na gnéithe oideachasúla den tionscadal, bhí taighde ar ghriangraif a aimsiú agus a raibh iontu a fhiosrú, píosa gairid a scríobh orthu agus cuidiú le teicníc 'scáileáin ghlais' a úsáidítear na híomhánna a ionsá.

The educational aspects of the project ranged from the research involved in sourcing the photo and enquiring about the content; writing a short piece to accompany the photo, and assisting in the green screen technique used to insert the image.

Thosaigh an próiseas le cruinniú idir príomhoide na scoile, Mary Nic Ailín, an t-éascaitheoir ealaíonta, Sara Greavu agus múinteoir an ranga, Patricia Nic Thorcail. Thug an múinteoir mioneolais do na páistí ar chuspóirí an tionscadail, agus iarradh orthu griangraif a aimsiú. Scanadh na griangraif agus ullmhaíodh fá choinne ionramháil digiteach iad.

The process itself involved an initial meeting between the school principal, Mary Nic Ailín, the artistic facilitator Sara Greavu, and the class teacher, Patricia Nic Thorcail. The teacher briefed the children on the project, and asked them to source a photo. The photos were then scanned and prepared for digital manipulation.

Agus na híomhánna á n-ullmhú, labhair Cara Ní Mhaonaigh, éascaitheoir ar scríbhneoireacht chruthaitheach, leis na páistí agus phléigh siad smaointe faoi ábhar agus stíl scríobhneoireachta an phíosa scríofa. Nuair a bhí an próiseas 'scáileáin ghlais' déanta i ndiaidh plé a bheith acu faoin áit is fóirsteanaí le hiad a chur sna pictiúir, cuireadh a n-íomhánna isteach sna bunghriangraif agus ionramháladh iad chun na híomhánna a chomhoiriúnú.

As the images were being prepared a creative writing facilitator, Cara Ní Mhaonaigh spoke to the children and discussed ideas about content and the style of the written piece. Once the children had been green screened (following a discussion about how best to place themselves in the picture), their image was inserted into the photo and manipulated to match the images.

Ba é an chuid dheireanach den próiseas ná cló na n-íomhánna, agus iad a thaispeáint i halla na scoile ag deireadh mí na Nollag 2012. Beidh taispeántas eile de na híomhánna ar siúl ag tús 2013. Rinne an comhordaitheoir digiteach, Seán Ó Cuireáin, an t-ábhar a bhailiu le chéile i bhfoirm blag agus leathanach facebook, agus beidh leagan digiteach ar fáil ar Issue, iad uilig nasctha le suíomh idirlíne na scoile.

The final stage of the process involved printing out the images, and displaying them in the school hall in late December 2012. A further exhibition will take place in early 2013. A second digital coordinator, Seán Ó Cuireáin, has collated the material in the form of a blog, and a facebook page, and a digital version of the material has been prepared on Issue, all of which are linked to the school website.

Maoiníodh an tionscadal ag Foras na Gaeilge, Scéim ‘An Gaeilge sa Phobal’ agus is é Dearcán Media, Doire a d’éascaigh é.

The project was made possible through funding from Foras na Gaeilge, An Ghaeilge sa Phobal, and was facilitated by Dearcán Media, Derry.

Tá úsáid as griangraf Thomás Uí Loinn le caoinchead ó Eamon Melaugh, griangrafadóir Dhoire.
