Audience: Article in the magazine ‘Reality today’ Purpose: To explore and challenge our inability to decipher various realities and the effort which our society has taken to do so Despite the simplicity of the definition ‘reality’ the concepts which underpin it requires much thought in order to make an attempt to delve into its center complexities, often arousing much debate in the process. The notion of reality is merely to be seen as a subjective construct, but rather as a total experience that forms the basis of an individual’s perceptions. Whilst the individuality of reality might pose much difficulty in interpreting that of an another persons, it should not let us hinder our yearn to do so. Often society allows the difficulty in interpreting another reality to refrain them from attempting to take the leap to journey into understanding. This has been greatly evident in Australia’s own history, where the Stolen Generation embodies the subjugation of a society due the colonizers fear in an alternate reality that the natives carry. Evidently, language had formed a barrier between the two communities, where the lack of a mutually understood form of communication led to the believing of the colonisers to reside the power over the less civilized natives.
