About this guide….

The Business, Marketing, and Information Technology curriculum and competency-testing guide is arranged according to the National Career Cluster Model. Although BITE and ME programs crossover into many of the career clusters, the division has adopted only four clusters: Business, Management, and Administration; Finance; Marketing and Sales; and Information Technology.

The guide is a comprehensive list of occupational courses that can be used in any BITE program. In most cases, free certifications are available for occupational areas.

How to read the guide …

The Business, Marketing, and Information Technology Education Division Core Curriculum is a set of skill standards that gives a student the foundation to go into any career major available in BITE programs. The BITE core knowledge and skills curriculum is not a career major; it is the foundation for all cluster pathways. Many of the core skills such as leadership, interpersonal skills, and job readiness should be incorporated into every career major.

The skill standards for the core curriculum (OD6601) are primarily drawn from the 2005 Certified Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) standards and can be found at: http://www.okcareertech.org/testing/contact.htm The Business & Information Technology Core Skills test can be taken online through the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education. Please contact your local testing liaison for additional information.

Every effort should be made between comprehensive high schools, technology centers, and 2-year/4-year universities to align curriculum. Curriculum alignment will help to ensure multiple options for the students and eliminate any unnecessary duplication.
