On October 18th the Shanghai Centre Atrium will provide an outstanding showcase for Italian legwear fromCastel Goffredo and Lombardy.

Women’s legwear is a fashion accessory with a strong element of style, making an essential contribu-tion to fashion trends. For this reason, at the Shanghai event eleven Lombard firms from the district ofCastel Goffredo and the nearby province of Brescia, the owners of celebrated brands, have teamed up topresent their products strategically on the big Chinese market, increasingly interested in high-end productswhich are much sought after by that segment of the Chinese clientele most sensitive to quality fashionwearand the intangible values of Italian style.The objective of the event and its related initiatives is to awakenthe interest of Chinese buyers and importers at the high and medium-high levels and build up fruitful busi-ness relations over time.The highlight of the presentation will be the fashion show scheduled for Saturday 18th, with the mostfashionable details of the stockings projected onto a giant screen.A trends section will also be set up inthe catwalk area, presenting the collections of exhibiting brands.

ITALIAN LEGWEAR SHANGHAI is organized by Centro Servizi Calze of Castel Goffredo in collab-oration with the Mantua Chamber of Commerce and the Lombardy Region.The event provides the oppor-tunity for a high level presentation of the Lombard production pole of women’s legwear, showcasing aspectsof the Castel Goffredo area, historically prominent in this sector with over 6,600 employees in some 400manufacturing firms.To emphasize the mission’s high fashion profile, the layout of the show will have meet-ing and business spaces furnished with a particular attention to the design.The event will also bring out theaesthetic culture of the Italian district, a starting point for the success of Italian legwear around the world.The show will include film clips presenting the art and history of the territory in which the stocking indus-try has developed.

The legwear industry of the Mantua district has an annual turnover of more than 1.3 million euros(2007 data), equal to about 90% of Italian production, exported worldwide with a share of around 70% ofthe total output of stockings and representing 10% of the province’s whole exports. Further, legwear fromthe Castel Goffredo district represents some 30% of world production and over 70% of European produc-tion of women’s stockings.
