Behaviorism

• “Behaviorism is a perspective that focuses almost exclusively on directly observable things” (Spector, 68).

• It is trained through repetion and reward

Operant Conditioning

• Behavioral learning theory

• Credited by Dr. B.F. Skinner (1954)

• Uses reinforcements – “rewards or punishments”

• Provides timely and informative feedback to learners

“Reinforcers are designed to encourage desired consequences” (Spector, 71).

Scenario 1

Your dog has gone potty inside the house. What do you do to let him know his behavior is bad?

a. Nothing, just clean the mess

b. Reward him. I’m mean, look

at those sad little, innocent eyes

c. Punish him, he misbehaved
