“There are too many blue parking lots that aren't being filled by professors and should be made available to either red or blue parking passes.”

many of them are too far away from academic buildings.”
“I understand that IC is probably doing their best to accommodate everyone, but the parking situations are a bit ridiculous. We are forced to pay for parking permits but yet have the worst parking areas (red lot) being that the parking spots are so far from academic buildings.”
“Having a car is supposed to make life easier on campus but it isn’t easier if we can’t park anywhere near our academic buildings.”
GoalsTo make parking both convenient, accessible, and
less difficult for students. To solve this problem for the betterment of the
Ithaca College community. To make parking so simple and so easy that it no
longer becomes an issue.
Short-Term SolutionReassign Lots J and S. Lot J is Towers parking lot. Lot S is Emerson tennis courts. Solution: Make all of Lot J Red, and a strip of
parking behind the tennis courts BlueResult: Lot J- All Red and Lot S- Red/Blue
BenefitsCost-EffectiveImmediately better parking situation for students. Closer proximity to key elements of campus such
as the academic quad, library, and two campus dining halls.
Shorter walking distances to class in poor weather conditions.
Can be done theoretically overnight.
Long-Term solutionParking Garage behind towers. Built off of existing J lot.Size of current lot except built upwards.Student, faculty, and staff accessible.Begin Summer, 2016.End Fall, 2016.Budget $2-3 million
BenefitsApproximately 875 additional spots Will open up other lots even more.Better parking for students, faculty, and staffWill provide more spots for future studentsGives Ithaca College an opportunity to continue to
its growth. Better location in regards to key aspects of campus. Library, academic buildings, dining and residence
halls, all close in proximity.
