Ives in Action 2011 – 2013 3

Ives joined Corporate Affairs on 1st December 2011 and has spent the subsequent two years developing and fine-tuning his communication skills through various projects. Along the way, Ives has demonstrated his many talents, as outlined in this short Ives in Action Summary. It cannot be disputed that Ives will leave an unforgettable mark on Corporate Affairs, particularly in the Food segment, where he has fulfilled the role of Internal Communications Officer with great professionalism and enthusiasm.

His team (Craig, Kristin, Ewa and Anke) will miss him greatly as he takes on a six month challenge in Food Europe Commercial, and they sincerely hope that he will return to Corporate Affairs in the future to continue on his communication journey. This Ives in Action Summary highlights some of the talents that Ives will be remembered for. Good luck Ives!

Ives In Action

Ives is mad about MAP, the Mars Ambassador Program. His passion started even before he joined Corporate Affairs in September 2011, when he joined the Food assignment in Cape Town, South Africa, teaching children about healthy eating and planting their own vegetables.

Since then, Ives has played an active role on the MAP board, helping to shape the global and Food segment programmes, and promoting the Food progamme so well, that applications for the Food assignment doubled in 2013!

Ives was a courageous co-pilot on a number of road trips with Ewa, managing the GPS and providing stimulating conversation to make sure they got to their destinations safely (Safety First!). Highlights included Waltham, Chateaudun, Oud Beijerland and the EFMT Road Show. One of the most memorable road trips was Verden, during which poor Ives was subjected to 8 hours of Ewa’s ipod (no, not Michael Jackson AGAIN!!!).

It no doubt spurred him on to buy his own i-Pod so he would never have to endure the agony of bad music taste again. Another unforgettable trip was the team outing to Niagara Falls, with Kristin, Ewa and honorary team member Hilde. This time, the soundtrack was provided by by a Toronto radio station, which managed to play Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines at least once every thirty minutes – “everybody get up…. hé hé hé!”

Inspired by his MAP assignment, Ives took the lead on developing a Rice School for Kids in Olen. The school was a huge success, arming 70 children with new knowledge and skills to become Rice Ambassador. Ives even created a film to the tune of Rice Rice Baby to illustrate highlights of the school.

But it didn’t stop there: Ives’ Rice School for Kids was nominated for Make the Difference, and made it through to the cross segment final in Monaco. Although he unfortunately didn’t manage to secure a place in Washington, it was still a fantastic achievement to make it so far – bravo Ives!

With more than 500 connections on LinkedIn, not to mention Facebook and Instagram, Ives is well-known for his nifty networking skills.

Ives is definitely not a wall-flower at meetings, and has made many a new connection during global conferences, particularly on the dance floor, where his love for Jay Z, Pearl Jam, Queen and Metallica put him a step ahead of the rest on mesmerising moves.

Ives displayed a Passion for Food from his very first day in Corporate Affairs, when he supported the Passion for Cooking competition European final.

This was quickly followed by his first project, the creation and publication of the Passion for Cooking Recipe Book, which clearly demonstrated his talent for communication.

10 Ives in Action 2011 – 2013

In the first half of 2013, Ives went the extra mile by showing Associates in Brussels how to “Go Faster” using different communication tools.

He created a special wiki space where Associates can follow work-streams and pose questions, organised bi-monthly “Join the Conversation” sessions in the Brussels office and developed “Go Faster” signage.

Ives in Action 2011 – 2013 11

During his two year management of dotMars, Ives published more than 200 stories about how we bring our Purpose to life from around the global food community and he helped to boost readership with a monthly teaser, bringing subscriptions up to nearly 16.000.

Ives also coached intern Lize Olaerts, who conducted a local study in Olen on how Associates use dotMars and how interaction might be improved, leading to her passing her finals with a high distinction grade. Ives has also developed Positive Gossip, an easy to read newsletter with stories from around the global food community.

12 Ives in Action 2011 – 2013

Ives is a true technophile, embracing blogs, wikis, dotMars and other technologies with gusto, not to mention managing the Quarterly Global Food Quarterly VC.

He also ran presentations at the Global Food Leaders meeting in Dublin in 2012 and played the role of Global App Master at the Global Food Leaders On the Right Path Meeting in Toronto in 2013.
