MODE

My Task at HandYou have been commissioned by the Northern Echo to produce a new magazine or newspaper product. Your product could be in any style or genre but it must be self financed through sales or advertising. You must also produce your magazine for a specified audience segment within the 16 to 25 age group.

How I will achieve the Task

To make sure I will complete this task to it’s highest quality, I need to do the following:• Audience is ABC1 to ABC12 males• Ensure I make the magazine look as

professional as possible through high quality content and materials

• Make sure there is a gap in the market for this magazine

• Self-financed• Related to an audience aged 16 - 25

Things to think about

Secondary Audience»My Secondary Audience is the

Northern Echo readers, siblings of TA, and female audiences.

• In order to avoid offending the secondary audience, I will include: no nudity, no inappropriate content and give stories that will appeal slightly to this audience also.

Things to think about• I have to follow 5 rules from the the constraints (the press

complaints commission) » To ensure trespassing doesn’t occur I will gain consent

from the land owner to be allowed to access the area and to take photographs on it.

» It is very important to ensure that informed consent is given before questioning, photographing or publishing information about an individual.

» I will be considerate and caring when discussing sensitive topics such as illness, shock and grief.

» I must ensure all information is confidential therefore not giving out information about an individual e.g. name, age and race. Unless permission is given.

» I must ensure that all information about a topic, individual or organisation that is published is accurate.

My Unique Selling Point

Mode does not only concentrate on fashion, cars, music and fitness/sports, like stereotypical men’s lifestyle magazines, it will focus on one area of my target audience, which is the hipster/alternative tribe.

Brief of my idea

I discussed my magazine’s genre, design and target audience within a focus group and gained this feedback.

“I like your choice of genre, it links with the stereotypical topics of men’s lifestyle magazines but makes it more appealing to a

specific tribe within the target audience.”

“I really like the design for the front cover, contents page and main DPS, it’s very graphic and visually impressive.”

“I am a bit confused about the target

audience, is it a branch of ABC12, like a tribe?”
