Jake's Sensory World is a purpose built leisure and play facility where disabled visitors can have fun, relax and play. We have worked in partnership with parents of disabled children and young people to design the facility to be as accessible as possible with all areas accessible by ceiling tracked hoist.

Located within Netherton Activity Centre, Jake's Sensory World is a fun packed family day out for disabled children / young people.

This soft padded inclusive location offers a flexible environment for disabled children, young people and adults to enjoy leisure time with families, carers, therapists and teachers in a supportive and welcoming environment.

The Vision of Jake's Sensory World

Jake's Sensory World is the idea of Jo and Ruth, both mums to two young families. As the children grew it became clear that Jake was developing at a different pace and unfortunately at the age of twelve months it was confirmed that Jake had a rare neuro transmitter disease, which has now left him with severe complex health needs.

Jo has constantly struggled to find activities that suit her whole family and they often have to travel long distances to find activities suitable for the whole family. So the idea was founded and a steering group formed to look into setting up a sensory play centre in Sefton.

Plans were already under way to build a new Community Centre in Netherton (replacing the Netherton Activity Centre, NAC). Jo and Ruth met with Sefton Council and agreed the new NAC would be a perfect location to accommodate Jake’s Sensory World using funding from the Aiming High For Disabled Children Captial Funding.

This will allow disabled children to be included within a mainstream setting and they themselves along with their families and siblings will have the use of the rest of the facilities that will be on offer.

We are aware that there are lots of families who are in a similar position to Jo. If you've always struggled to find leisure opportunities for your family then Jake's Sensory World and the NAC are the place for you.
