Sarah Cannon was born October 15, 1823 in Gosport, England to Edward and Mary Cannon. James and Sarah were married April 30, 1846 in England. They came to America in the spring of 1855. After arrival the moved to Clover/Rush Valley and were among the first settlers in the valley and are mentioned in several incidents in Rush Valley's history. The History of Rush Valley by Lacey Russell Burrows, Pg 55 “In the spring of 1857 Luke Johnson the President of the Branch and Agent of the Grantees (for water rights), invited two more men to come in as settlers; they were James Jordan and Robert Miller and they came in for equal shares with eleven original settlers. […] James Jordan, having sold eight acres of his first claim to John McIntosh, was permitted by the agent of the Grantees, Griffith Davis, one of the original settlers, desiring to emigrate his family, sold his original claim and was again admitted by Agent Johnson, and thus he claimed another ten acre share.” It is believed that Sarah gave birth to the first set of twins in Rush Valley, Emily and Emaline Jordan; Emily died as an infant, although this is information is not confirmed. James and Sarah moved to Centre before the Ajax store was there, and later moved back to Clover and built a nice house which now stands. His family all married people from around there. They were the first and only ones to have black English currants, the first and only ones for many years to have lilacs. Centre Settled 1863, it was called Centre because it was midway between St. John and Vernon (about eight miles south of Rush Valley); later known as Ajax for William Ajax, who operated a store there. Centre was first settled by James F. Jordan and Edward B. Meredith in 1868. Other families soon followed and at one time there were nine or ten families at Center. Some of these, however, soon moved away because of the drought. A branch organization was effected at an early day with James F. Jordan as the presiding Elder. As far as we can ascertain, this branch was organized in the spring of 1870. Most the families moved away and the branch was dissolved into the St John Ward. In 1900, there were about three families residing at Centre. Sarah's mother, Mary Orpwood Cannon Decker, also came to Utah. She was the widow of Isaac Decker. Very little information is known concerning her except she died in 1884, and buried in Clover. James loved horses and always had a fine team. Sarah died May 4, 1890. James then remarried a woman by the name of Ellen Saline Chalk May 7,1891 in Clover. They had one daughter, Sarah E. Jordan, born February 8, 1892, although she lived only 2 days. James and Ellen remained in Clover until his death, August 1900. James Jordan was one of the most colorful and quoted over men in the Clover Community, even after his death. James & Sarah are buried in the Clover Cemetery

Married Sarah Cannon 30 Apr 1846 and Set Sail from Liverpool, England on the Ship Siddons Bound for America. Monday 5 March 1855 [27 Feb. 1855} While working at the mill his arm mangled in the machinery. After his arm healed sufficiently it was fitted with a hook which he wore the rest of his life. After the accident he decided there were better opportunities in other fields. He moved to Clover Creek, Tooele, Utah. While there he was made Bishop of that Ward. James loved horses and always had a fine team. Sarah died 1890 and 1891 James married Ellen Boughton of Clover Creek she came from Gosport, Hampshire, England. Ellen was younger than James but she was very kind to him. February 27th, 1855, the ship, Siddons, Captain Taylor, sailed from Liverpool, England, for Philadelphia, having on board four hundred and thirty Saints, of whom one hundred and ninety-seven intended going through to the Valley that season, ninety-seven being P. [Perpetual] E. [Emigration] Fund emigrants. The company was placed under the presidency of Elder John S. Fullmer, assisted by Isaac Allred and James Pace. With the exception of the few Germans who sailed in the Isaac Jeans, this was the first shipload of Saints which was sent out by the presidency at Liverpool, via Philadelphia. The names of all the passengers were published in the Deseret News of June 20th, 1855. After a safe voyage the company arrived in Philadelphia, on the twentieth of April, and from that city the emigrants traveled by rail to Pittsburg, where arrangements were made for their transportation by steamboat down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to St. Louis, Missouri. The river passage coast three dollars for each adult passenger, children half-price; thirty-five cents was paid for every one hundred pounds of extra luggage. The company arrived in St. Louis May 7th, after a pleasant passage. An infant which was born on board the Siddons died on the river journey. On the day of arrival in St. Louis, most of the luggage belonging to the company was reshipped on the Polar Star, and on the eighth, one hundred and fifty of the company embarked on that steamer for Atchison, under the presidency of Elders Parson and Ferguson.
