Dear Parents and Friends of James Monroe, With the first nine weeks of school rapidly coming to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to some of our students’ successes and to highlight some scheduled events for November. We are proud of our Yellow Jackets for many reasons. Thirty-six students were inducted into the National Honor Society in October. J.A.Y.E.M. A.M. has gotten off to a great start with an average of one hundred and ninety-six students taking advantage of the opportunity to receive enrichment, support, and remediation each day. Our student athletes have had successful fall sports seasons. During the last week of October, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will compete in the Conference 27 Meet at Brentsville High School. The varsity field hockey team will advance to the Conference 23 Tournament which begins October 28. The varsity football team will play their final regular season home game at Maury Stadium against the Spotsylvania Knights on November 1 at which time all Senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members will be recognized. The varsity football team will advanced to Conference 27 playoffs which begin on November 15. These are but a few of our accomplishments, and it is only the beginning of November! First Term mid-term exams will conclude on November 1, and the first nine weeks grading period ends on November 4. The following day, November 5, is a teacher workday, and report cards will be issued on November 8 to all stu- dents. Parents are reminded of the next P.T.S.A. meeting which will be held on November 6 at 6:00 P.M. in the Lecture Hall. On November 14, we will hold our first Parent-Teacher Conferences from 3:00—5:00 P.M. Appointments are necessary and may be scheduled by calling 372-1100 and speaking to Mrs. Limberick or Ms. Matthew. The Drama Department will showcase their talented students on November 1 with a public performance of a One-Act Play, Darcy’s Cinematic Life. The play will begin at 8:00 P.M., and tickets will be pay-what-you-can at the door. The cast will compete the next day, November 2, in the VHSL Conference 27 One- Act Festival which will begin at 3:00 P.M. and will be hosted by The James Monroe High School. The event is free and open to the public with five high schools scheduled to perform. Please continue to remind your student of the importance of daily preparation, responsibility, and making the proper choices. We want to keep discipline re- ferrals at The James Monroe High School to an all time low. Enjoy the information included in the November newsletter and have a won- derful Thanksgiving holiday. School will be in session until 2:45 P.M. on Tues- day, November 26 and will resume at 7:45 A.M. on Monday, December 2. Sincerely, Dr. John B.
