World War Two had ended. The Polish Government decided to construct a highway through an old Jewish cemetery. The Local Burial Society was ordered to remove all the kevarim to a new cemetery. To their great astonishment and surprise they encountered one body which had not decomposed, which indicated that the person had been a great Tzaddik. However, what was more shocking was the fact that the person was buried in a Priest’s robes. Enquiries were quickly undertaken and thus the following story came to light.

Reb Naftali was the Gabbai Tzedakah of the town. He was someone who was looked up to and was known to be a just and honest person. It occurred one day after he had finished his rounds of collecting for someone in a dire emergency that sharp raps sounded at his door. He opened up and a man pleadingly begged him for help and stated that he had nowhere else to turn. He said that he was burdened with the expenses of his large family and now, to top it all off, his child was deathly ill and the medical bills which kept piling up was putting his family under a state of extreme financial desperation. Reb Naftali heard out the man’s woes and promised to help him. He went out once again and started collecting; people donated to his cause but not like earlier on that day and the going was tough. He returned home, worn out and exhausted but filled with an inner happiness knowing that he had done the right thing. A sudden knock at his door startled him. He opened up and came face to face with another yid. This man explained that his roof had caved in and his family of 10 souls

was now homeless. Naftali pondered and headed out again, truly loyal in his task of collecting for his brethren.

Reb Naftali headed to beseech the son of a prosperous merchant who was entertaining some of his friends at the local tavern.

The son greeted Reb Naftali with ridicule and mocked him for the fact that he was collecting once again. Reb Naftali explained that he had a great need for funds in order to save a homeless family. The young man remained stone faced. Suddenly, he came up with an idea. He told Reb Naftali that he will give him the entire sum of money if he walks through the main street of town wearing a priest’s robe. Reb Naftali agreed. The young man and his cronies walked behind Reb Naftali and mocked him the entire way. The other townspeople, who saw Reb Naftali shouted curses at him. Yet, after the humiliating debacle, the young man gave Reb Naftali the entire sum he asked for plus more.

Reb Naftali went home, shattered. He threw the priest’s robes into the back of his closet and collapsed, exhausted into bed.

A year later, Rav Chaim of Tzanz passed through that same town. He passed by Reb Naftali’s house and exclaimed that he smelt the fragrance of Gan Eden. He went into the house and began to question Reb Naftali as to what could cause this heavenly smell. Reb Naftali remembered the incident of the priest’s robe and related it to the Divrei Chaim.

R’ Chaim commanded the Burial Society that when Reb Naftali’s time comes, he should be buried in those same Priest’s robes.

Smoking is known as a stress reliever and beyond the initial addiction, smokers turn to cigarettes for a touch of relief from life’s daily trials, or so they think.A recent study from Oxford

University and King’s College London found that 1 in 5 smokers said that the main reason that they smoked was to relieve stress, according to The Daily Mail.

But contrary to this common belief,

smoking doesn’t actually relieve stress,

quitting does.

British researchers

measured anxiety levels in more than 500 smokers before and after they gave up. Two months into the study 68 of 491 participants were still abstaining.Those that tried

to quit and failed were markedly more stressed. “The belief

that smoking is stress-relieving is pervasive but almost certainly wrong,” researchers said in The Daily Mail. “The reverse is true: smoking

probably causes anxiety and smokers deserve to know this and understand how their own experience may be misleading.”It may actually be the withdrawal

from the nicotine that causes the stress that a cigarette seems to relieve.According to NIH: anxiety, tension, restlessness, frustration, difficulty concentrating, and trouble sleeping are all common symptoms of withdrawal. Withdrawal from addiction causes

stress and once that phase has passed the feeling of relief by beating the addiction will be greater than any relief from having smoked a cigarette. Doing something that you know is bad for your health creates guilt and it is that guilt that causes stress. Stress is also produced as a result of feeling trapped by your own addiction. Will is a powerful thing.This increase in stress levels was

particularly high in those with depression and other psychiatric problems and the researchers said doctors should be aware of this.

4 Tbsp brown sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions1. Preheat oven to 500°F and lightly grease a casserole dish.

2. In a small pan, sauté garlic in oil until tender.

3. Remove from heat and stir in the brown sugar.

4. Place chicken breasts in prepared casserole dish and cover with the garlic and brown sugar mixture.

5. Add salt and pepper to taste.

6. Bake uncovered for 15-30 minutes.

Brian Butterworth is a professor of cognitive neuropsychology at University College London. His research ranges from speech errors and pauses, short term memory deficits, and dyslexia to mathematics and dyscalculia.
