Rev. Rodney Gasaway, Director of Adult Ministries

The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Rev. Rodney Gasaway,

as Director of Adult Ministries at Chelsea First UMC. This position, as was true with Pastor Tom Macaulay,

is ½ time (20-25 hours per week).

Rev. Gasaway is in process to be ordained a deacon in The United Methodist Church. He is currently serving,

and will continue to serve, the Newburg United Methodist Church as the Minister of Adult Education, Programs and Outreach, also in a ½ time position. What a blessing that Rev. Gasaway will be serving both Chelsea First and

Newburg United Methodist Churches in similar capacities. This does, however, mean that neither church has

exclusive claim to him on Sundays!

His previous experiences also include serving as the Director of Community and Economic Development for the Joy-Southfield Community Development Corporation and as a Chaplain for Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6896. Rev. Gasaway obtained his Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministries from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit. in Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

Rev. Gasaway and his wife Janice have been married for 23 years; they have two children: Justin and Jax.

SPRC thanks everyone who provided input into developing the position description and assistance in the search

process. Rodney will be in the office during the week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please join us in welcoming

Rev. Gasaway to Chelsea First UMC!

Sincerely,

John Seto, SPRC chairperson

Bible study: The Acts of the Apostles

The New Testament book of Acts is an exciting read, tracing the story of the Christian movement from the

resurrection of Jesus through the missionary work of the apostle Paul. As we strive to touch the lives of more people and to increase our health and vitality as a

congregation, this study will offer insight and inspiration. Join Pastor Joy and other leaders for an 8-week journey

with this important book within the Bible. Thursday evenings, 6:30-8 p.m. beginning January 17th.

Holy Contradictions: What’s Next for the

People Called United Methodists Ron Mourad will lead a series of conversations based on several essays from a book entitled Holy Contradictions.

Each essay was written with this question in mind: How might United Methodists bear witness to graceful and mutually respectful ways of living in the Wesleyan tradition amid

enduring disagreements about same-gender relationships and related church practices? The variety of authors offer

perspectives that both challenge and reinforce our ways of thinking. This group will gather Sunday afternoons from 4-5:30 p.m., beginning Sunday, January 20th

and ending February 10th. You may contact Ron [email protected]

for additional information.
