SUPERSTARS

Can one sentence encompass

all that needs to happen? Can a

mind fathom all that must

transpire? NO WAY!! I’m just doing

it one day, one week, one month at

a time. I’m asking you to

focus on one face, one

party, one interview, one

new team member at a

time.

Thank you for sending

me e-mails, notes and

Facebook messages.

Thank you for believing,

and being excited and for

working. Thank you for

telling me through your

actions and your words

that this is going to be

done, no matter what!

I’ve got IT like I’ve never felt it

before, and I’m sharing IT with

anyone who gets close. Let’s affirm

that once again. Are you willing to

commit? Say IT with me!!

“I like IT, I want IT, I gotta have IT! “

And we will!

Dear Scintillating Superstars,

If you’re going to make a name,

do IT big! Be the #1 unit in the

state of Illinois for 4 years and do IT

again in 2009! If you’re going to do

PCP, do IT big! Have your highest

percentage of

participants, 38.92%

and send almost 2400

LOOK books in March!

If you’re going to be a

part of finishing off #17

Kathleen DiLuciano’s

directorship, do IT big!

Help her have $8200 in

production and finish

early! And if you’re

going to do a mailing,

do IT big! Put

together 1251 packets

and invite every

member of every unit

to join you in creating a NATIONAL

AREA!

We finished the month with

209 unit members, we are on Target

to be an 8 time Trip Taking Unit, and

on the last day in February when

20+ units are solidly in place, we face

4 months of NIQ, and the IT

National Area is born.

Each month I will feature a different Future Martin Area Director in our newsletter.

Directors have all gone through many of the same issues that you have or may go through in your life and career.

Director Name: Kelly Knobloch

Former Occupation: High School Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor

City/State: Herscher, IL

Joined Mary Kay: October of 2004

Debuted as a director: September of 2008

# of months of driving free: 42 months (as of Jan 2010)

Highest commission check in one month: $4200

What was the sequence of events that brought you into the company? (recruiting layering process) In June of 2004 I approached Amy Kemp, a fellow teacher at my school and the “Mary Kay lady”...I asked if she would be willing to teach our pageant contestants how to do their makeup for our local contest. She agreed, and after 3 hours in a hot “barn”, teaching 18 high school girls about red lipstick, I felt a bit guilty and agreed to have a facial. I bought a couple of eyeshadows, and my friend became a consultant (secretly, so that we could purchase our products at half price together). But Amy invited me back to be a model in her portfolio in late August, and then to be a model at her meeting in September (I loved the word “model’). That night at the meeting we did DISC personality training, and I was the same as Amy...a “D”...so of course in my mind, I was qualified! About a week later, Amy asked if I would do a practice 3-way interview, so I could give her my “opinion”. I was with Jeanie, and I was glad to tell her what I thought about their interview. I remember when she called. I told my husband she was going to ask me to become a consultant. Amy followed up by sending me the agreement online, and about a week and a half later I jumped on the computer, filled it out and submitted the agreement. It happened to be on Amy’s birthday and while she was at retreat!! Surprise!!

Why did you join? I think there are 3 reasons women become a consultant...the reason they give their husband, the reason they give themselves, and the real reason! I told my husband it would save us money. He knew EXACTLY how much I spent on makeup. In fact, I can remember vividly telling him my product would be half price, and we walked over to our computer and pulled up a spreadsheet that showed how much I had spent in makeup in the last year! I told myself that I wouldn’t have to have anyone else teach the contestants how to do makeup, I would just use my samples in my kit and go to the free training! But the real reason was, I was bored and desperately needed some girlfriends. .

Why did you want to become a director? I was ready to be the one recognizing rather than getting recognized. and I

knew that if I could do it, others would believe they could do it too.

Has there been a dark season? I think, at this point, my darkest season in my business was probably right after DIQ….I had just quit my teaching position but hadn’t realized that summer break was over! We had finished DIQ and I hadn’t set a new goal for myself or my unit. AND I was at home, all day, by myself!! Remember, I started my business to meet people, not to sit in my home, alone! I also had my 10-month-old son, our first child, and I’m just not really the “stay at home mom” material. Basically, I was in seclusion! And I stopped working...and my unit stopped working….and there wasn’t a lot of energy! Luckily, we had Leadership Conference in January and my director girlfriends made sure I knew that wasn’t going to work! I came out of seclusion, did 52 faces in March, and six months later we had earned our first director car, had new red jackets, and our first consultant on target for her car!!!

THIS MONTH’S ISSUE OF:

IF SHE CAN, I CAN!

Page 11: January 2010 Newsletter

Page 11

What is the one thing that was difficult for you or you were afraid of in this business? I struggled with the decision to leave my teaching position. I really did love my job, or at least parts of it!! As an agriculture teacher I had the opportunity to watch students work to build skills and be recognized by the public when they won contests. I also watched them develop into leaders, setting goals and helping others to do the same (do you see any possible similarities in Mary Kay).

The most difficult part was wondering what my parents and grandparents would think. Our family has always been involved in agriculture, and I was proud to be able to be a part of it too. It was a respected position that others new and recognized. “Doing Mary Kay” was vague, and NO ONE really understood what being a Mary Kay director meant.

During what time period did you have the greatest growth of income and what was the growth? June of 2009….our unit had a clear goal, we WERE finishing that first director car! Whatever it took!!!! We worked as a team to finish it. Everyone was enrolled, and we had women becoming senior consultants, red jackets, and going on target for their car...at the same time!

What do you attribute the growth? The team GOAL!!! And a clear vision for it!

What advice would you give a consultant who wants to be a Director? Don't "wait" until everything is going

perfect to go for directorship...or it will never happen.
