Style Week Providence, established in 2009, is a non-profit organization with the vision of showcasing both upcoming talent and internationally known designers in the Creative Capi-tal of Rhode Island.

Modeled after major fashion weeks in cities such as New York, Paris, and Milan, Style Week Providence aims to focus on the busi-ness aspect of the fashion world while exploring the latest trends to attract buyers and media, creating a platform to established design-ers. With overwhelming success following the inaugural June 2010 Style Week, Style Week Providence will now be a biannual event allowing designers to debut their seasonal creations in both June and January. The weeklong celebration of fashion, art, design, and culture features formal, industry only runway shows and after event soirees open to the public to excite and engage the community.

"Style Week Providence will put the national spotlight on the Creative Capital and give us an opportunity to showcase Providence as a cen-ter for innovation with talented designers who are helping to grow jobs and fuel our economy...," Mayor of Providence, David N. Cicilline

"Style Week Providence...has provided an economic spark during a typically slow season in downtown Providence." The Providence Journal

"While some would be tempted to make reference to the grand dame of the industry, Mercedes Fashion Week in NYC...none is necessary-the show [Style Week Providence] can stand on it's own..." SOCO Magazine

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CITY THIS JANUARY

The Crucible Trinity Rep continues its 2010-2011 Season with The Crucible, Arthur Miller’s timeless master-piece. Something evil is loose in Salem, leaving the residents of the small New England hamlet thrown into a fiery labyrinth of lies and fear-mongering. What’s not clear is who – or what – that evil might be. After a young woman’s accusation triggers a deadly chain of events, the community of Salem must question whom they can trust, whom they no longer believe, and how far they’re willing to go in the name of the truth. Directed by resident company member Brian McEleney, the show opens in pre-views February 4 and runs through March 13 in the Chace Theater. Tickets are on sale now at the Trin-ity Rep box office, 201 Washington St.; by phone at (401) 351-4242; and online at www.trinityrep.com

A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Presented by Providence Children's Museum at Providence Children's Museum on January 17, 2011 . Families explore an exhibit of photographs, words and books describing Dr. King's life and work, par-ticipate in an interactive exploration of the negative power of discrimination, and see powerful perform-ances of “M.L.K.: Amazing Grace.” Award-winning storytellers and actors Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson bring history to life through songs and stories as they portray Civil Rights activists Rosa Parks, Ralph Abernathy and more. Shows at 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM & 2:30 PM. Ages 5 - 11. Phone: 401-273-5437
