Pastors Reflection I pray a healthy and prosperous New Year for each member of our ministry and mission at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Clearly a lot of baggage from 2020 is being brought into this year of our Lord 2021. Celebrating many things on this weekend from January 1st including Mary Mother of God, Haitian Independence and the Emancipation Proclamation. It was January 1st 1863 that by executive order the enslaved Americans living in those states in active sedition against the United States, were set freed: "That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom." It is no coincidence that many of the states in "active rebellion against the United States" in 1863, continue that rebellion today including people in Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia and the U.S. Senate. St. Nicholas church in Egg Harbor City was founded and its first baptism recorded in 1861.
"On January 1, 1804, the entire island of Haiti, (Hispaniola), was declared independent under the Arawak-derived name of Haiti." Fifty-nine years before Lincoln's Proclamation, the island of Haiti become the first 'modern' independent Black State by defeating the French empire. Unlike Spartacus, the enslaved people of the country of Haiti have retained their freedom and suffer for it. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is the patroness of Haiti.
When it comes to the fight for the right to life, justice and human dignity as nominally preached and timidly acted upon by the Catholic Church in the United States, the trafficked sons and daughters of Africa have fought the longest, given the most, and received the least. So I ask you to support in prayer and finance the cause for sainthood of Julia Greeley (between 1833/48-1918), venerable Pierre Toussaint (1766-1853), venerable Mother Henriette Delille (1813-1862), Fr. Augustus Tolton (1854-1897), Mother Mary Lange (1794-1882), Sister Thea Bowman (1937-1990).
The Dragon of the Apocalypse and the People of the Lie are continually in rebellion against the soul of America and the Catholic Church in America and these are they who have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb.
Fr. Gerard.

Assumption Regional Catholic School Dear Friends,
Peace and all good! Today is the Epiphany of our Lord! When I was growing up, it was celebrated on January 6, and I looked forward to one final gift of the Christmas season! It was not until I was much older that I realized that the gift of Epiphany is an understanding, insight or revelation that God offers to us….a gift! On this Feast we remember the three Wise Men who followed the star to seek Baby Jesus. As seen in the depictions of the Wise Men that are part of the Nativity scene, they were overcome with joy at meeting Jesus because they recognized him as a true king. The Wise Men brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh for Jesus. These were expensive gifts. While we may not be able to offer these gifts, what gifts can we bring to Jesus? At our faculty prayer before Christmas, each ARCS teacher/staff member offered a gift to another teacher/staff member: the gift of rest, the gift of peace, the gift of wonder, the gift of fun, the gift of joy, the gift of inner strength, the gift of family time, the gift of serenity, the gift of time, the gift of health, and the gift of love were a few gifts that God desires for each one of us. As we step into the 2021, may we walk with assurance that God’s gift to us is that we do not walk alone. God walks with us, and we walk with one another! What a blessed gift that is for us! School will reopen Monday, January 4, and we are excited about seeing our students again! Thank you all for your continued support of Assumption Regional Catholic School. We could not do what we do without you! May hope, peace, joy, and love be your gifts and blessings during 2021! Epiphany blessings,
Joan Dollinger Principal
