comply with the road safety standards.

Importer hasn't imported any vehicle the year

before.

1 January 1989 Rule:

According to this rule, if a car is manufactured

before 1 January 1989, then there is no need for a

compliance plate or test. Importer just has to get

an "Import Approval", register and license the

vehicle.

RAWS (Registered Automotive Workshop

Scheme):

If the vehicle is manufactured after 1988 and is

not a private import, then importer must use a

RAW. This scheme imports the vehicle in

accordance with the Australian Design Rules

(ADR) standards, and then plates it with import

and identication plates. Importer can get a

Vehicle Import Approval (VIA) from the Vehicle

Safety Standards Branch of the Department of

Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development

and Local Government.

the export of the vehicle at the specied time.

Additional port specic declarations may be

required for temporary importation.

Specic Information:

For vehicles previously owned and shipped

from the USA by the returning importer, the

ownership names must match with the

consignee of the shipment on the vehicle Title

and Registration.

A non-USA resident can import a vehicle for a

period of up to 1 year as a tourist, but no

extension will be allowed. A permission letter is

required by the importer before shipping the

vehicle.

Marine engines and gas-powered generators

are subjected to EPA requirements and Form

EPA-3520-21 is normally required for those

items.

Vehicles that are 25 model years old and with

the original drive train are exempt from EPA /

DOT regulations. Whereas vehicles less than 25

model years old that were not previously titled

in the USA must comply with EPA / DOT

regulations.
