Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Daniel Ricciardo, RomainGrosjean, Valtteri Bottas. What is the one thing common between all these drivers apart from the very obvious F1? All these drivers have been discovered while their stint in the Formula Renault 2.0. In fact, Kimi Raikkonen, one of the all-time greats of the sport, fast-tracked his career by directly progressing to F1 after participating in Formula Renault.

INDUCTED IN THE BRDC
The British Racing Drivers’ Club, considered to be the most exclusive club in motor racing and home to the most successful drivers in Great Britain and the Commonwealth have inducted Jehan into their Rising Stars programme. The BRDC is extremely selective when it comes to it’s members and has a proven track record of selecting only the best of individuals. Lewis Hamilton MBE and Alex Lloyd are the two particular success stories from the Rising Stars scheme’s history. In addition to maintaining and operating the Silverstone circuit, the only circuit currently licensed to run a Grand Prix in Britain, the BRDC has for many years fostered young driving talent.Jehan is now one of the very few Indian drivers to be invited to join such a prestigious club. This is a massive step in his career.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
Moving ahead, we’ve compared Jehan’scareer timeline with that of the Indian drivers who’ve raced in the F1 and also with the international benchmarks to give a clearer perspective and a better understanding of where Jehan stands right now.

Indian Benchmarks
At the age of 16 and 17, while Jehan started competing on the European tracks and bagging podiums (4 in his first year) in the highly competitive Formula Renault Series, Narain was participating in much less competitive championships that did not even carry super licencepoints (required to be eligible to drive in the F1) and Karun was still participating in Indian and Asian championships. Narainmanaged to get a European podium only at the age of 25 and Karun at the age of 23. This is basically showing how far ahead Jehan is at this age than where Narain and Karun were at the same age.

The point to be noted here is that last year, Jehan was exactly where Hamilton was at the age of 16. Even this year, Jehan is exactly where Hamilton was at that point in his career. Lewis Hamilton (31) is racing in the F1 till date. This also shows how crucial the Formula Renault series is in shaping a world-class driver’s career and giving him the required experience to climb and sustain at the top most level of the sport.
International Benchmarks
In his first year of racing, Jehan was one step ahead of Ricciardo. It must be noted here that Formula Ford and BMW are much less competitive as compared to Formula Renault and Daniel Ricciardo (26), who made his debut at the age of 22 is racing in the F1 till date.

F3 is the no. 2 feeder series to the F1 churning out the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, etc.
Jehan has been signed up by Carlin Racing in his debut year who is currently leading the team championship ranking.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Current series :
FIA FORMULA 3 : No.2 FEEDER SERIES TO F1The FIA Formula 3 European Championship has established itself as one of the leading junior categories in international single-seater racing and is considered to be the most important rung on the ladder to F1.
For decades now, Formula 3 has prepared drivers to move to F1. Currently, 18 of the 22 drivers on the grid of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship have gained experience in Formula 3. Six of those drivers – Daniil Kvyat, Felipe Nasr, Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen, Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon – have graduated to F1 via the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in just the last five years.
FIA FORMULA 3 : PREPARING THE DRIVERS FOR F1
Formula One VenuesThe venues are chosen with the aim of preparing the drivers as
much as possible for the pinnacle of motorsport.
Therefore, 9 of the 10 venues this season are either former or
current Formula One Grand Prix/test circuits.
On Track ExperienceEach event has the drivers competing in 3 races of 33 minutes each plus 1
lap. Also, each race meeting begins on Friday with two 40 min back to back practice sessions followed by two 20 min qualifying sessions. This concept
benefits the drivers by offering significantly more time behind the
wheel than comparable championships.
FIA FORMULA 3 : PREPARING THE DRIVERS FOR F1
Technical SkillsOne of F3’s greatest strengths compared to the other competitive series is the detailed work the drivers must carry out with their
engineers. The technical and sporting regulations which govern the sport have been developed in correlation to the learning aspect of
Formula 3. The championship is not contested with control chassis and control engines, which means the drivers are offered the
chance of enhancing their cars in cooperation with the technical staff of their teams within the framework of the regulations. Thus drivers are improving their technical knowledge and gaining the
experience required for moving up the single-seater ladder.
FIA Formula 3
TEAM: CARLIN
Carlin, one of the most reputed racing teams, has signed up Jehan for their 2017 season in the FIA European
Formula 3 Championship.
Currently competing in 6 championships – GP2, GP3, FIA
European Formula 3, MSA Formula, Euroformula Open and Indy Lights,
Carlin has achieved a string of successes in each one of them
including 13 driver’s championships since it was founded in 1996.
Having provided a ladder to F1 to a number of drivers including Nico Rosberg (current champion), Sebastian Vettel, Daniel
Ricciardo, Daniil Kvyat, Robert Kubica, Takuma Sato, Anthony Davidson, Jaime Alguersuari, Max Chilton, Narain Karthikeyan, Jean-Eric Vergne, Kevin Magnussen, Felipe Nasr and Rio Haryanto, Carlin
is one of the most sought after team by the motor sport drivers.
Jehan has been fortunate to have an extremely supportive and stable support system in the form of his parents, Khurshed and Kainaz
Daruvala. In fact Khurshed is the current MD of Sterling Wilson, an associate company of Shapoorji Pallonji and is able to support his
sons journey up the ranks in formula Motorsport racing. Today it is no secret that Jehan is one of the most gifted drivers in the
championship. He is also supported by a fabulous team that is committed to help Jehan grow and learn the fine nuances of formula
racing as he steadily makes the climb to the summit.
