Dear Dr. Teston,

I was granted the opportunity to work with Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) producing deliverables. In class experience complemented the work completed for FLOW. Through this opportunity, other work experiences, and in-class work I gained valuable experience and skills that can be transferred to future work and volunteer positions.

My academic background has provided me with knowledge that will benefit me while working with nonprofit organizations in the future. Some course highlights include Intro to Nonprofit Organizations, Nonprofit Management and Governance, Rhetoric and Community Service, and Leadership in Community Service. In the classroom I learned valuable concepts that I was able to connect to on-site work. Along with a Nonprofit Management minor I completed an Accounting major. The skills and concepts I learned in business courses can be translated to future work with nonprofit organizations as well.

From January 2015 until May 2015, I worked with FLOW and gained experience writing constant contact emails, assembling lists of accomplishments, and putting together the outline of a brochure. I was also made an administrator of FLOW’s Facebook account and researched how FLOW can further involve younger Columbus community members. Some in-class experience included working with IMovie, WordPress, and Prezi. I was able to use my experience with WordPress account creation and editing to provide input to FLOW as they were transitioning their website to a WordPress account.

During the same time frame as my work experience with FLOW I was also completing a service-learning experience with the Columbus Northside Library Homework Help Center (HHC). At the HHC I worked with elementary school children from low income neighborhoods and foreign families. This service-learning opportunity provided me with direct program experience. I have also worked as an Enterprise Reporting Intern with Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio. I utilized my accounting knowledge gained inside the classroom to assist with the preparation of GAAP and STAT financial statements. I hope to use this accounting experience while working with nonprofit organizations in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to review my credentials.

Respectfully yours,
