P O I N T S F R O M S U M M A T I O N S P E E C H

● Commitment to CDPL Board to turnaround Nagpur

Division & Ice-cream vertical in this financial year…

Come what may, we need to achieve this!

● Would like to spend more time and focus on strategic

plans for growth, strengthening systems & controls, fre-

quent reviews with the teams & business analytics.

Functional Heads/CXO’s to play frontline operational

roles at the Corporate

● Linkages between Corporate & Divisions must be

strengthened. Corporate should play a strategic role

and provide initial supports wherever required. To be

effective, the functional teams should understand &

grasp the realities in each division. Corporate team

would get respect only if we play an endearing role.

Credibility cannot be established from a pedestal of

power! It is this transition of developing appropriate

linkage between corporate and divisions that would be

tested in the coming days.

● My personal Commitment to all of you….you will all

see me in the front, right next to your commitment line.

I shall be stretching your commitment line, as you near

it, signaling that you can still do more! You will also see

me behind you, not very far from you, but just behind

you. This is to signal you, that my supporting hand is

always behind you! You may turn behind a couple of

times, afterwards you may not….because you know I am I am I am I am

there there there there !!

Here are few very inspiring and motivating points ex-

tracted from the ‘Summation SpeechSummation SpeechSummation SpeechSummation Speech’ delivered by

Mr. P. Gopalakrishnan, CEO.

● Very heartening to see the enthusiasm levels & active

participation of the teams in this Conclave.

● Functioning in teams & sustained team activities is

the only way we can excel. I would like to facilitate this

process and empower each one of you.

● The innate strength of the brand “JerseyJerseyJerseyJersey” and the

talent pool at CDPL, which is second to none! We just

need to unleash it — that is all !!

● The Power of a “brand”“brand”“brand”“brand” and its clout in the market

place (several examples of brands in dairy industry

were quoted). We need to reflect for ourselves and see

how best we can galvanize our brand in commanding

better margins.

● Learning & Development as a continuous activity,

development of core teams

& succession plan for key

functionaries in each Divi-

sion & their mentoring.

“My supporting

hand is always

behind you !!”

This is a universal truth and has always stood the test of time. In the animal world or in the hu-

man world, in sports or in business unity is the best mantra to achieve success; our competitors

take advantage of us only when they notice splits and fissures in our solidarity.

Let us recollect the story we had learnt in our childhood days from the collection of

Panchatantra.

Once upon a time, there was a flock of doves that flew in search of food. Their king led this

flock. Once, it happened that the flock had flown a long distance and all the doves got tired. The

flock when finding some grain scattered on the ground descended only to get trapped in a net,

which was cleverly laid by a hunter. The doves in a bid to escape were all flying helter-skelter

when the king advised them to fly and rise as one collectively. The doves could successfully fly

with the net to the friend of the king- a lowly rat, which gnawed at the net and thus let the doves

free.

Now let us compare the following incident that took place in 2001 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake,

Utah.

During the event ice-skating, one particular competitor was not as strong a skater in com-

parison to his competitors. He did his first jump and fell on the ice. The crowd gasped as he went

down. The skater got up and continued his routine, but fell again a few moments later. The noise

from the crowd conveyed their sympathy for this man. Yet again he arose to continue his rou-

tine but fell again and again. At this time, the crowd was almost silent. Everyone felt that he

was trained, practiced well, and was dedicated to come to the Olympics only to have a night of almost utter disas-

ter. When the skater slowly arose from this final fall, his body language showed that he was ready to quit. Entire crowd was

reading his mind as if he were saying, “I have failed, I am terribly upset and I should just quit.”

At that very moment, the crowd began to clap and cheer to encourage and motivate the skater to complete the routine. It

was a unified effort that one could literally feel the „human vibration’ in the arena. There is no doubt the skater felt the en-

ergy and was inspired to go on. He finished his routine, without any more falls and showed the crowd that he was an Olympic

athlete who pushed through to the end, no matter what!

Moral of both the stories is ‘individually one might have a great talent or skill that makes him/her

the top performer, but one cannot achieve it alone. Not only do we need the help of others, but

also the help has to be a unified effort’. If we can increase the level of unity and teamwork in our

organizations, there is no doubt that we can improve the commitment and resolve to accomplish

greater things as teams. From the sidelines we can inspire others to keep going, overcome the

obstacles, and persevere until they reach their goals.

Unity has always been the strength!Unity has always been the strength!Unity has always been the strength!Unity has always been the strength!

This truth has been applicable even in the animal world from the ages. One can seldom see an ele-

phant or a deer roaming alone in jungle. The sense of security they get moving as a herd is extremely

important for their survival. Similarly, hundreds of ants together can kill a venomous snake. We often

see gees flying in a ‘V’ pattern. Flight of a whole flock increases the efficiency of each goose by 71

percent. It is interpreted that if a team works in a focused manner in the same direction, the efficiency

of the team shall increase and the destination can be reached faster and the goal, sooner.

unity amongst a diverse group of people. The united strength, which the team derived from... (Contd.,) adopting the “all for one all for one all for one all for one

and one for alland one for alland one for alland one for all‟ approach, is a concrete example of demonstrating that the strength lies in unity.

Unity means staying committed!Unity means staying committed!Unity means staying committed!Unity means staying committed!

Unity happens when leaders are committed to and engaged in the process of building a united, winning team. It requires fo-

cus, time, and energy. Unity occurs when team members care more about the vision, purpose and health of the organization

than they do their own personal agenda. Changing the mindset is essential. Unity happens when each person on the team can

clearly see how their personal vision and effort contributes to the overall vision and success of the team. This involves mean-

ingful conversations. And unity results when you weed out the negativity that sabotages many organizations.

Now let us introspect on our team and ourselves with the following questions:

1. Any recent achievement by your team that reveals your, “unified effortunified effortunified effortunified effort‟?

2. As in the doves story, do we really unify to support team?

3. When there is a performer in your team who continuously falls like the skater in the winter Olym-

pics, what is the unified effort taken by your team to make him complete his routine?

4. Can you call your team a “unified teamunified teamunified teamunified team”?

5. Does your team have ‘all for one and one for allall for one and one for allall for one and one for allall for one and one for all’ motto?

Let’s get that “TEAM WORK”!Let’s get that “TEAM WORK”!Let’s get that “TEAM WORK”!Let’s get that “TEAM WORK”!

and correctly implemented technology, improves overall profitability and enables busi-ness goals.

I would also like to give my thought process on “Internal Internal Internal Internal Audit in Modern business Audit in Modern business Audit in Modern business Audit in Modern business environmentenvironmentenvironmentenvironment”. Traditionally the term “Internal Auditing” has been construed as an audit on behalf of the man-agement. The nature and scope of internal audit opera-tions are determined by the management and may, there-fore differ from one organiza-tion to another organization.

As per Institute of Internal Auditors, the professional association of Internal Audi-tors, New York, USA “Internal Auditing is an independent appraisal activity within an organization for the review of operations as a service to the

management. It is a manage-rial control which functions by measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of other controls”

As per above definition, Inter-nal Auditor will go beyond the books of account and the related records and ap-praises the quality of per-formance of various persons in the organization in carrying out their assigned responsi-bilities. According to the mod-ern concept, the internal auditor should also be en-gaged in the task of carrying out a review of the opera-tions. In this sense, the terms “ I nte rna l Audi t ” and “Operational Audit” appear to be somewhat synonymous.

See you all in next edition of “Jersey Times”.

Echoes of Himachal -by Tanushree Das

To pen down a travel story surely demands a tour worth travelling…..a trip which touches your heart and gives a feeling of eternal bliss. I happened to experience one such expedition to the Himachals.

One fine day my father announced that we would head towards the mountains in the summer holidays. Accordingly the trip started…..we reached Delhi from where we had a small halt at Chandigarh and headed straight towards Shimla. The destination covered a distance of approx 117kms. The trip through the mountains was breathtaking. You get to see nature at its best….lush tea and coffee gardens, dense and mysterious forest with tall treetops, unseen trees and their fruits, unknown yet beautifully colored birds and housetops which seemed to held high for years with pride. The hotel we stayed in served delicious food which tasted even better

in the chilled weather. Since the stay was short we could only visit few site scenes like- the Mall (the shopping centre of Shimla) with its hullaballoo, the majestic Christ Church, the Shimla State Museum with its cultural wealth and Kufri with its ski slopes. You can pay a visit to few other sites like Jakhu Hills to check out the snow covered peaks, Annandale- the spot that supports cricket, picnics the princely game of polo, and Tara Devi- a temple dedicated to the goddess of stars.

After 2 days of stay, our journey continued to Manali crossing Kullu on the way. The picturesque view still haunts me and gives me a pleasure which can’t be described. The way through Kullu witnessed the river Beas with small cottages and beautiful apple orchards by its side, and the snow peaked mountains at the corners like giants standing and staring at you. A memory which you cannot erase in a life time. Since Manali is approx 261kms from Shimla and the roads were rocky, it took almost 9 hours to reach. The night went by uninterrupted but I missed Shimla’s night view. At night, Shimla looked like a lady in black displaying all her jewels. In Shimla, the mountains stay alive at night too. Morning exposed Manali at its fullest glory! The snow covered mountains ranged high above while the apples orchards brought a subtle touch of green amidst the white snow. We had a quite time sipping on hot cups of tea and savoring the scenic beauty in front.

We started on our way to Rohtang Pass which is about 51kms from Manali. Before reaching there, we were each handed a furry jacket to keep us warm as the pass is snow laden. We had the opportunity to enjoy our breakfast consisting of “Hot Para-thas and Mango Pickle” at Rohtang Pass. While heading towards Rohtang, I noticed few tiny winy and thin-layered waterfalls. Rohtang can definitely make your heart overleap with joy! It snow…snow everywhere!!! How I loved throwing snow balls at my father and brother…..I was not spared though! We started climbing up the mountain and broke few ice walls too. Unfortunate for us, Rohtang experienced a snow slide just a few weeks back which prevented us from visiting the Beas Kund, the source of the river Beas. Since our visit was not for long, we could not visit many places which Manali is known for. Visitors should never miss a chance to visit Rohtang Pass, Naggar Valley with its ancient castle, Kothi- the quaint village at the bottom of Rohtang Pass, Solang Valley which assures you of solace, Vashisht with its hot springs, and the amazing Rahalla Falls.

The journey ended with a happy heart yet unsatisfied mind as it wanted to explore more…….and a few souvenirs in our posses-sion which is nicely flaunted at my place in Kolkata. Every time I think about this journey, at the flash of a moment, my thought goes back to those wonderful moments which I lived….Hence I keep re-visiting my memories of Himachals, to find those mo-ments of happiness back, to re-live life to its fullest, to find solace and peace. Incredible India……Incredible Himachals……and blessed are we who gets these opportunities to travel and stay as witnesses to the beauties of the Mother Nature!

3W’s of World Milk Day!

Since the first World Milk Day was held in 2001, many countries spread throughout the world have participated in the celebrations and the number is growing each year.

What is a World Milk Day? The Day provides an opportunity to focus attention on milk and to publicize activities connected with milk and the milk industry. The fact that many coun-tries choose to do this on the same day lends additional importance to individual national celebrations and shows that milk is a global food.

Where did it begin? FAO (The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) was asked to propose a specific day on which all aspects of milk could be celebrated. Why 1st June? This date was chosen because a number of countries were already cele-brating a national milk day on or around this time. Late May was originally proposed, but some countries, for example China, felt they already had too many celebrations in that month. While most countries hold their celebrations on 1st June, some choose to hold them a week or so before or after this date.

"That's an eagle - the chief of the birds,"

the neighbour clucked. "But don't give it

never gave it a second thought.

Throughout its entire life the changeling

When we look as birds of the kingdom,

we realize that there are significant

differences in their lifestyle and asso-

ciations. We’ve all heard that "Birds of Birds of Birds of Birds of

a Feather Flock Togethera Feather Flock Togethera Feather Flock Togethera Feather Flock Together". That’s abso-

lutely the truth. And People in many

ways are similar. We have a tendency

to associate with people who make us

feel good or people we are comfortable

with, staying within “Our Comfort Zone”.

However, in order to reach your highest

potential, you may have to remove your-

self from your “Comfort ZoneComfort ZoneComfort ZoneComfort Zone” and

‘Unleash your potentialUnleash your potentialUnleash your potentialUnleash your potential’.

There is a story about an American In-

dian who found an eagle's egg and put

it into the nest of a prairie chicken. The

eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks

and grew up with them. All its life, the

changeling eagle, thought it was a prai-

rie chicken, it did what the prairie chick-

ens did. It scratched in the dirt for

seeds and insects to eat. It clucked and

cackled and flew in a brief thrashing of

wings and flurry of feathers no more

than a few feet off the ground. After all,

that's how prairie chickens were sup-

posed to fly. Years passed and the

changeling eagle grew very old. One

differences and very unique gifts that

God has given us. And in order to soar

like an eagle, we must surround our-

selves with Positive experiences and

Positive People. Of course, no one

wants to end up like the “Eagle who Eagle who Eagle who Eagle who

thought he was a Chickenthought he was a Chickenthought he was a Chickenthought he was a Chicken”. Just as the

Eagle, when placed in an inferior envi-

ronment will become inferior. So not to

be inferior or less than what we ought

to be, it is imperative that we surround

ourselves with people who can help us

grow, stimulate us, point us in the right

direction, help us up when we stumble,

give us hope when we are down, and

lead us to success when we are failing.

At this point, say to yourself I will

‘Unleash my potentialUnleash my potentialUnleash my potentialUnleash my potential’, surround myself

with Positive and encouraging people

who can help me establish my Self Con-

fidence and build my Self Esteem. Just

to recapture the article, I leave you with

a word of advice, never, never, never

surround yourself with people who are

negative but instead make it a point to

surround yourself with people who will

encourage you to ‘unleash your poten-unleash your poten-unleash your poten-unleash your poten-

effective the Management requires to know the employees perceptions towards certain organizational dimensions, because

the Management strongly believes people are the major constitutes of an organization and people well being is organizations

well being. Accordingly, the Corporate HR has designed an effective Employee Engagement Survey Questionnaire and travelled

to all the Divisions in Teams to conduct the Survey. 814 On-roll employees have taken part in the survey. The survey analysis

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway.

Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would re-

move the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants

and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many

loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but

none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables.

Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his

burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road.

After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After

the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a

purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The

purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King

indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the

boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of

us never understand - "Every obstacle presents an opportu-"Every obstacle presents an opportu-"Every obstacle presents an opportu-"Every obstacle presents an opportu-

“The Obstacles in Our Path”

Abraham Lincoln is rated as one of the best American presi-

dents, but it is often noted that he had numerous failures in

his career. In realty, he was a very successful politician and

lawyer. The supposed cycle of setbacks is meant to show that

even a failure can become president, if he doesn't give up.

Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lin-

coln. If you want to learn about somebody who didn't quit, look

no further. He could have quit many times - but he didn't and

because he didn't quit, he became one of the greatest presi-

dents in the history of USA.

Every failure gives a message helping us to introspect and

understand our strengths and weaknesses, it helps in correct-

ing mistakes, motivates us to learn and unlearn, builds tempo,

guides us towards success. Failing is not a mistake but a les-

son, quitting is a big mistake. Don’t loose your confidence and

don’t get demotivated!

Abraham Lincoln’s numerous failures helped him to learn,

correct him selves, develop that tempo and to try again. Suc-

cess after 28 years of journey through failures requires strong

confidence and great courage. That is what we must learn

from his story. Perseverance Pays!Perseverance Pays!Perseverance Pays!Perseverance Pays!
